Pokémon: My Online Friend Is Cynthia
Chapter 157: Ice Cream
Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Ice Cream
Julian did not know much about Sinnoh’s ancient history.
But he could be certain of one thing. Based on the information revealed in the movies and Legends: Arceus, ancient civilisation in Sinnoh should have been destroyed more than once.
Most modern Sinnoh people were actually humans who had come from other regions.
The true ancient Sinnoh people, on the other hand, had most likely migrated elsewhere.
According to the portraits in Legends: Arceus, the ancestors of two Hoenn villains, Maxie and Archie, were most likely ancient Sinnoh people.
There was also Unova Champion Alder. His ancestor was also an ancient Sinnoh person.
And those three belonged to the same group.
"Professor Carolina, ancient Sinnoh people probably captured Pokémon on a large scale and provoked some powerful ancient Legendary Pokémon."
"That Legendary Pokémon’s power was either extremely strong, or its ability was especially unusual, causing the ancient Sinnoh city to be destroyed and the population to scatter."
"They may even have crossed the sea and left Sinnoh, heading to safer regions to live."
Because ancient humans were filtered by harsh environments, their bodies were much stronger than modern humans.
If they could not survive in one region, they would simply move to another.
To ancient people, that was probably very normal.
Even among modern humans, there was still someone like Marlon.
The Gym Leader of Humilau Gym in Unova, a man who could swim from Unova to Sinnoh, or perhaps even Hoenn.
Was that a normal travel method any ordinary human would choose?
After hearing Julian’s deduction, Professor Carolina nodded in agreement.
"As expected, Julian, you really do have the potential to become a historical researcher. Would you like to work at the History Research Institute?"
"The History Research Institute often finds unique ancient methods for raising Pokémon in ancient ruins."
"They would definitely be quite helpful to you if you want to challenge the Elite Four."
When Professor Carolina put it like that, Julian was genuinely tempted.
Cynthia interrupted, "The methods found in ancient ruins either need to be used together with psychic power, or require materials that are already extinct."
"The time needed to research modern substitutes would be better spent directly using modern tools and materials to study ways of strengthening Pokémon."
Cynthia had grown up studying the ancient texts Professor Carolina had deciphered.
She was basically already an expert in modernising ancient techniques.
Professor Carolina glared at Cynthia and said irritably, "Perfect. Aren’t you the best at modernising them? Once we excavate records suitable for Julian’s Pokémon..."
"I’ll leave them to you. Translate them for Julian for free. Julian, if you feel bad about that, just treat Cynthia to two boxes of ice cream."
"This granddaughter of mine likes all kinds of ice cream the most."
Cynthia lifted her head.
"I do like ice cream, but ordinary ice cream won’t impress me. At the very least, it has to be delicious and creative!"
Creative?
Professor Carolina rolled her eyes. She would not mention who it was that had eaten chocolate ice cream for twenty-three days in a row.
When Cynthia mentioned creative ice cream, Julian immediately thought of flower ice cream.
But he had only just invited Cassia to try it. Making it for Cynthia now would feel wrong.
Julian raised an eyebrow.
"I did think of a pretty good ice cream recipe. I don’t know whether you’d like to try it."
Cynthia excitedly asked, "What is it?"
"Caramelised pineapple and floral honey ice cream."
Cynthia’s expression turned sceptical.
"Caramelised pineapple... in ice cream?"
"Trust me. The Honey balances the sharpness."
This time, when coming to the History Research Institute, Julian had specifically brought Honey produced by the flower garden.
Because the garden had so many different flower varieties, the Honey was filled with rich floral fragrance.
And because the two small hives gathered nectar from different flowers, they produced two kinds of Honey with different flavours.
After Julian finished training the Combee, the owner had forcibly stuffed two large buckets of Honey into his boot.
The owner had even emphasised that if Julian really felt bad about it, he could help advertise the Honey when the flower garden officially started selling it.
The caramelised pineapple ice cream was only an idea Julian had come up with on the spot.
In truth, using the flower garden’s Honey to make two kinds of ice cream would already be enough to satisfy Cynthia’s curiosity.
In the end, Cynthia still nodded.
"It sounds strange, but I’m willing to try it!"
People who loved ice cream were willing to try all kinds of unusual flavours.
"The Research Institute has a kitchen. I remember there are fresh pineapples in the fridge. Shall we try this ice cream recipe of yours?"
Julian nodded.
"Sure."
After arriving in the kitchen, Julian first used the Honey he had brought to make two simple honey milk ice creams.
He scooped one bowl of each flavour for Cynthia, then put the rest in the freezer.
Once the researchers finished their work, they could come and try his cooking.
Only then did Julian begin caramelising the pineapple.
Cynthia tasted a spoonful, happily narrowing her eyes.
"These two ice creams actually have completely different honey-floral fragrances. Delicious!"
Julian turned his head and looked at Cynthia licking the ice cream, as well as her smile while enjoying it.
Very familiar...
Why were Cynthia’s movements and expression so similar to Cassia’s?
Was this the tacit understanding between close friends?
He added butter and brown sugar to the pineapple, roasted it in the oven at 200 degrees for fifteen minutes until a caramel fragrance emerged, then cooled and mashed it, keeping some texture.
That would add more flavour.
Then he mixed the caramelised pineapple pieces, honey, and cream together to make ice cream.
Because Julian was not sure how this ice cream would ultimately taste, he did not make too much.
After finishing, he first scooped some for himself.
Unexpectedly, the taste was quite good.
The richness of the caramelised pineapple pieces and the dense floral sweetness of the Honey fused perfectly with the fragrance of Moomoo Milk.
Seeing Julian’s expression, Cynthia, who had already finished the two small boxes of ice cream in her hands, personally scooped herself a bowl.
Unexpectedly...
It was actually really good!
Cynthia happily narrowed her eyes.
"I suddenly thought of something. It might be helpful for you when raising Pokémon!"
Cynthia ran to her office, took out a set of materials, and handed them to Julian.
Julian had thought it would be some information about Pokémon.
In the end, it turned out to be ancient recipes.
Julian blinked.
"Cynthia, why are you giving me this?"
Cynthia deliberately said mysteriously, "You’ll know after reading it."
In the ancient world, food and battle were never separate. Both were ways of surviving, growing stronger, and drawing power from the world itself
Was that the kind of sentence that should appear in a recipe book?
But when he thought about it, rituals did often involve food.
The recipes Cynthia handed over recorded twelve dishes.
Many of the materials had to be obtained from Pokémon.
However, Cynthia had listed modern substitute materials for all of them.
"Because I’m not a professional cook, I only replaced the materials from the perspective of their properties. You’ll need to experiment a little."
"I’ve already prepared the materials. I originally planned to try it myself, but since you’re here, I’ll leave this job to you."
Julian nodded.
"No problem."
Food and battle.
Placed on Pokémon, that idea suited them very well.
Eating and battling were usually the first choices when it came to making Pokémon stronger.
These twelve recipes that increased various abilities in Pokémon and humans were worth trying.
