Chapter 201: Chapter 201: Very Spirited!

Cassia smiled faintly.

"When the ice cream arrives, I’ll forgive you. That’s all for now. I still have plenty of work."

She even considerately left Julian time to prepare the date location.

Cassia, as played by Cynthia, really was gentle.

Or rather, calling it an act was not entirely accurate. The Cassia identity simply showed Cynthia’s own gentle and playful side.

If anything, Cynthia’s true identity carried a layer of pretence when she met Julian.

Cynthia would hold herself back and try to appear a little tougher.

But during their trip to the Great Crater of Paldea, it had been difficult for Cynthia to keep pretending the whole time.

After Julian saw through her identity, the subtle changes in his behaviour made Cynthia unconsciously lower her guard.

Gradually, she had begun acting exactly like Cassia.

She simply had not noticed it herself.

Julian smiled at his phone, then got up and headed for the station.

...

Phil, better known online as Forever_Burning, had returned to Veilstone City.

Ever since he had failed his challenge at Veilstone Gym, he had gone online and loudly promoted just how powerful Julian Veyne, the provisional Gym Leader of Veilstone Gym, was.

After another Veilstone Gym challenger, Skye, SkyBlueFeather, had tracked him down at an internet café and dealt with him in person, Phil had received Skye’s advice and chosen to challenge other Gyms first.

Skye had told him that since Veilstone Gym was so good at guiding Trainers, Phil should challenge Veilstone Gym as his final Gym. Wouldn’t that let him receive the most professional guidance?

After receiving Julian’s guidance, he would definitely be reborn!

Phil believed it!

He left Veilstone City and set out on his journey. After finally earning seven Badges, he turned around and headed towards Veilstone Gym again.

But Phil did not know that Skye had already dug a pit for him.

The eighth Badge was completely different in difficulty from the previous seven.

Especially when it came to a demanding Gym Trainer like Julian.

Poor Phil would probably be tested by Julian until he wished he were dead.

After taking the train to Veilstone City, Phil had just stepped off when he saw a familiar figure at the station exit.

He hurriedly chased after him.

"Gym Leader Julian, long time no see!"

Seeing Phil, Julian smiled.

"You’re Phil. I’ve been waiting for your second challenge at Veilstone Gym."

"But after the first time, you vanished. I thought you had given up on challenging Veilstone Gym. I didn’t expect you to come back now."

Phil pulled open his jacket, revealing the seven Badges hanging inside.

He said proudly, "Thanks to your guidance, Gym Leader Julian, I was able to successfully obtain seven Badges."

"For my eighth Badge challenge, I’ll be relying on your guidance again!"

Wait

Julian suddenly remembered that among the Trainers who had written dramatic essays about him on the Trainer forum, Phil seemed to be one of them.

This challenge...

Would this guy write another essay afterwards?

Forget it

Julian’s team were strong now. He was not afraid of Phil causing trouble.

Gengar was not very suitable, but sending Electabuzz to face challengers should be no problem.

Especially Primeape. Now that Primeape had mastered Rage Fist, he urgently wanted to battle more powerful Pokémon.

"The eighth Badge challenge uses four Pokémon. Phil, are you ready?"

Phil nodded.

"Don’t worry. I couldn’t be more ready!"

He was full of confidence. He swore to take Veilstone Gym’s Cobble Badge!

"Good. Very spirited!"

Seeing Phil’s mental state, Julian could fight with peace of mind.

He did not need to worry about crushing Phil’s confidence. On the contrary, the current Phil, overly pleased with his own progress, needed a reality check.

Otherwise, with his current mindset, if he participated in the Lily of the Valley Conference, he might get careless and be eliminated in the preliminaries.

The two arrived at Veilstone Gym just as Darius finished a challenge match.

Julian was somewhat surprised.

In Darius’s eyes, he actually saw a hint of the old style he once had.

Had Darius changed?

Had he picked Pokémon training back up and decided to make a comeback?

Kai said, "There are two more challengers this afternoon. They’ll arrive at three and four o’clock respectively. Gym Leader, please be prepared."

Julian was curious.

"Kai, how many challengers are there today?"

Hearing the familiar voice, Kai excitedly turned around.

"Master, you’re back!"

Darius directly leapt over, rushed in front of Julian, grabbed his hand, and spoke with tears in his eyes.

"Julian, you’re finally... finally back!"

"You don’t know... this disciple of yours, he’s simply not human!"

Julian was puzzled.

"What did Kai do?"

Darius choked up slightly.

"No matter how many people came to challenge the Gym, he never turned them away. He directly arranged all of them for me. Do you know the highest number of challengers I had to receive in one day?"

"Thirteen!"

The corner of Julian’s mouth twitched.

Thirteen was indeed a little ridiculous.

Kai’s thick eyebrows moved.

"But those were all challengers going for their first four Badges. They weren’t difficult for the Gym Leader, so I arranged them all."

"Forget the Gym Leader. Even if I went up, I could defeat one or two of them."

Kai excitedly took out a Poké Ball and released a Machop.

"Master, look. The Gym Leader took me to catch a Machop and made me responsible for screening challengers. Only challengers who defeat me can challenge the Gym Leader."

Julian smiled.

To reduce his workload, Darius had still managed to coax Kai.

Darius smiled and said, "This kid Kai is a little foolish, but he reminds me of when I first started out."

"Sometimes, he even makes my blood heat up again."

So Darius had recovered a bit of his spirit because he had been infected by Kai’s youth.

"Since I’m back, leave the remaining challengers to me. Dad, you can go to the Game Corner and relax properly."

Darius excitedly shook Julian’s hand.

"Then I’ll leave it to you!"

Darius complaining to him had been for exactly this, so he could go play games.

Julian turned his head.

"Phil, time is tight. Let’s start the Gym battle directly."

Phil took out a Poké Ball.

"Gladly!"

Julian lowered his voice and said, "Kai, go bring Combusken and Electabuzz over."

Kai nodded.

"Yes, Master."

For the first two Pokémon, Combusken and Electabuzz were just right.

Kai brought the Poké Balls, and Julian directly sent out Electabuzz.

Through Aura communication, Julian immediately understood Electabuzz’s growth during this period.

As for Phil, just like last time, he confidently opened with Stantler again.

Phil clenched his fist.

Where he had fallen last time, he would rise up again in this challenge!

"Stantler, Zen Headbutt!"

Julian smiled slightly.

"Catch him."

Electabuzz opened his hands and directly grabbed Stantler’s two antlers.

The brutal force pushed Electabuzz back two steps.

Then Stantler discovered he could not push him any further.

"Thunder!"

Holding Stantler’s antlers, Electabuzz directly released powerful lightning.

Stantler was shocked until his entire body went numb.

"Brick Break!"

Electabuzz raised his arm and chopped heavily between Stantler’s antlers.

Phil’s eyes widened.

"Stantler!"

Stantler staggered, but his desire to answer his Trainer meant he still did not fall.

Electabuzz grinned.

He liked opponents with spirit like this.
