Julian mentioned the date, and Clyde responded enthusiastically.
"Don’t worry, just come over. When the time comes, I’ll give you and your girlfriend the best treatment!"
Julian nodded.
"When will Shaymin come to the garden?"
Clyde frowned slightly.
"Usually in seven or eight days, when the flowers are at their most beautiful, the Gracidea flowers will bloom as well."
"As for whether Shaymin will come, I can’t say for certain."
Julian thought for a moment.
"As long as the flowers are beautiful enough, whether Shaymin appears or not shouldn’t matter too much."
Julian arranged with him to visit in eight days.
Only then did he call Cassia.
It rang for quite a while before someone answered.
Of course, that was because Cynthia had not used her Cassia identity in far too long.
She had almost forgotten Cassia’s voice, as well as that gentle tone.
It took Cynthia some effort before she finally adjusted herself back into character.
"Julian, I heard from Cynthia that your trip to Alola went very smoothly, and that you were able to see your mother."
"Congratulations~"
It had been a long time since Julian had heard Cynthia speak in Cassia’s gentle tone.
For a moment, he was actually a little unused to it.
"Sorry, Cassia. I only just returned to Veilstone Gym, and there were a lot of things I needed to handle. I only had time to call you now."
Cynthia said gently, "It’s alright. The fact that you called is already enough."
Julian smiled and said, "Actually... the flowers in Veilstone City are blooming. I’d like to invite you to go flower viewing with me in eight days."
A hint of surprise flashed through Cynthia’s eyes.
Well, well, Julian Veyne
So you’re not even telling Cynthia and are secretly preparing to confess to Cassia, are you?
The corner of Cynthia’s mouth curled into a wicked smile, but her voice became even gentler.
"No problem. I’ll adjust my work and arrive on time."
Julian deliberately said with some force, "Once you set off, make sure you call me. I’ll come pick you up then!"
Hearing the nervousness in Julian’s tone, Cynthia became even more certain that Julian was preparing to confess to Cassia at the flower garden.
"No problem."
Julian then told her some amusing stories from Alola.
Cynthia reacted very enthusiastically.
Clearly, these were things the two of them had experienced together.
Yet one person talked about them with great interest, while the other listened with equal enjoyment.
As for whether the interesting part was the story or the person telling it...
Only heaven knew.
After hanging up, the smile on Julian’s face remained for more than half an hour.
After arranging things for his Pokémon, he washed up early and lay on his bed, waiting for tonight’s Pokémon simulation.
Ever since simulating Gible last time, Julian had done two more simulations.
But those two simulations had not gone particularly well.
After Gabite received an S-rank evaluation, Julian specified the Psychic type.
His luck had been very "good," and he randomly became a Wynaut.
Other than being beaten, he was beaten.
Then something even more ridiculous happened. For the second simulation, the random type was Water, and he became a Magikarp.
Then, during the waterfall migration, he was caught by a Beartic and used to grind its teeth.
Julian rubbed his hands together.
Hopefully, this time, he would randomise a good type, a good environment, and a good Pokémon.
[System, begin simulation!]
[Randomising type for the host...]
[Random result: Fire type]
Julian’s eyes lit up.
Fire type.
Surely he would not randomise into something as weak and powerless as Wynaut or Magikarp this time, right?
[Randomising simulated Pokémon...]
[...]
[Random result: Torchic]
[Beginning simulation for the host...]
Torchic!
As a Trainer who had personally raised a Torchic, Julian understood far too well how Torchic should be trained.
Julian’s vision went dark.
When he opened his eyes again, he felt a sense of restraint across his body.
He opened his eyes and observed his surroundings.
This was clearly a human building.
And a kitchen!
A fierce-looking middle-aged human wearing a breastplate and a sword at his waist walked into the kitchen.
"Wake up. You lot, hurry and cook. Before dawn, prepare enough food for at least five hundred soldiers!"
"Chiko!"
"Toto!"
"Mime!"
Three Pokémon answered the middle-aged human very nervously.
Julian also blended in and let out a tense, "Torchic!"
The Totodile in charge of washing vegetables.
The Chikorita in charge of cutting vegetables.
The Mr. Mime in charge of cooking.
And the Torchic in charge of maintaining the fire.
It was obvious that the four of them were Pokémon cooks enslaved by humans.
As for the current time, it was definitely the distant ancient era.
All four of them wore tools ancient humans used to control Pokémon.
After the human left, Mr. Mime immediately began directing the three Pokémon to get busy.
He had Totodile add water and Torchic hurry to start the fire.
All the heat for cooking was provided by Torchic alone.
Judging by the little firewood left in the kitchen, it clearly was not enough to support cooking for five hundred people.
Julian was already prepared to let the soldiers eat half-cooked food.
The cooking itself was actually very simple.
Chop up all kinds of ingredients, then put them into the pots in order and boil them.
At most, Mr. Mime would use a little Psychic power to mix the ingredients.
There were three large pots in the kitchen. Mr. Mime first added the ingredients that needed longer cooking into the pots, then covered them with lids using Psychic power.
"You three keep preparing the ingredients. Torchic, don’t panic. I’ll go bring back some more firewood. Before then, just make sure the food in all three pots keeps heating."
Julian nodded.
"Got it."
After Mr. Mime left, Totodile sighed.
"Looks like there’s going to be another war. I wonder who they’re fighting this time, and how long it’ll last."
"Do you think we’ll be sent to the front line to cook? If we make a contribution, maybe we won’t need to keep cooking anymore?"
Chikorita smacked him.
"Just wash your vegetables properly. If we don’t hurry and get the food ready, I don’t want to get whipped."
After Julian added a mouthful of Ember to each of the three big pots, he asked, "Do you know which lord we’re serving?"
Chikorita chopped a radish into pieces.
"I heard from Mr. Mime that the king of this castle is called something like AZ."
"Because the king really likes a Floette, the treatment of Pokémon working in the castle has improved quite a bit."
"I don’t want to go to the battlefield. Isn’t staying in the castle fine? Cooking is better than losing your life. At least here, we can eat our fill."
Julian sucked in a cold breath.
This was the Kalos region three thousand years ago!
The simulation must have placed him in the war that would take the life of King AZ’s beloved Floette.
Even the Floette beloved by the king had been forced onto the battlefield.
That was enough to show how intense this war would become.
The four cooks here would inevitably be thrown into the battle line as cannon fodder too.
Julian therefore quietly reminded them, "No one knows how far this war will go. It’s not as if we can avoid the battlefield just because we don’t want to go."
"We should do everything we can to strengthen ourselves. If we’re sent to the battlefield, we’ll have a better chance of surviving."
Totodile, who was washing vegetables with Water Gun, and Chikorita, who was cutting them with Vine Whip and Razor Leaf, both froze.
"Torchic, why did you suddenly become so clever today?"
"Yeah. Usually, aside from keeping the fire going, all you know how to do is eat."
