Two o’clock arrived, but the host saw that there still were not enough spectators beneath the stage, so he said:
"The time has arrived. Spectators who have not yet reached the venue, please hurry. Our match will begin shortly."
Julian, who had been resting with his eyes closed, opened them at that exact moment. A sharp light flashed through his gaze.
He took out a Poké Ball.
"Take the stage, Gallade!"
Gallade appeared and immediately extended the blades from both arms.
Trainer and Pokémon both stared straight at Cynthia, their eyes burning with fighting spirit.
"Miss Cynthia, this challenge match is exactly the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. I hope you’ll use your full strength and let me see the gap between myself and the Elite Four."
"Only by knowing how large that gap is can I work harder to chase after your level."
Cynthia nodded and took out a Poké Ball of her own.
"As you wish. Garchomp!"
The host looked left, then right.
No, wait!
Why are the two of you ignoring me, the host, and starting on your own?
Cynthia extended her hand.
"Since this is a challenge match, you may attack first."
Cynthia was simply too pleased with this Julian standing before her.
Yes, this is what I want to see!
Julian smiled faintly.
"Then I won’t be polite."
He waved his hand.
"Gallade, Psycho Cut!"
"Dragon Claw!"
Gallade rapidly advanced, swinging his elbow blade towards Garchomp. Garchomp raised Dragon Claw to block and counterattack.
Psycho Cut and Dragon Claw clashed more than ten times, like two skilled swordsmen constantly probing, attacking, blocking, and attacking again.
Back and forth.
What a thrill.
In the end, Gallade landed a blade on Garchomp, while Garchomp struck Gallade with one claw. Only then did both sides separate.
But the careful Julian discovered that Gallade’s blade had only left a shallow cut on Garchomp’s rough shark skin.
It had merely broken the skin.
By contrast, Garchomp’s claw had made Gallade’s blood and energy churn.
With the boost from Sharpness, Gallade’s attacking power could temporarily contend with Garchomp.
But in terms of defensive power, Gallade, who had only just begun training through Bulk Up, was completely no match for Garchomp.
"Garchomp, Swords Dance!"
Like a storm of blades, Garchomp spun with Swords Dance while charging towards Gallade.
Julian narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Gallade, jump. Sacred Sword!"
Gallade leapt high, and a huge white blade of energy condensed from his elbow blade.
A mountain-splitting strike.
"Dragon Rush!"
Garchomp’s entire body was wrapped in blue air currents as she charged straight towards the sky.
The violent collision of energy triggered an explosion.
Garchomp slid two steps on the ground and stopped herself with her shark fins.
Gallade landed and rolled several times, half-kneeling on the ground in a somewhat sorry state, panting heavily.
Garchomp, going all out, had only hit Gallade twice.
Yet that was already enough to leave him struggling.
"Swords Dance!"
Swords Dance was bait.
It was a trap.
But Julian had no choice but to jump in.
"Sacred Sword!"
Julian frowned slightly.
Did Cynthia like Swords Dance this much?
Even fighting a roadside Trainer like him, she still wanted to use Swords Dance twice.
Gallade interrupted Swords Dance again, but Garchomp directly spun and used Dual Chop.
The powerful Dragon-type force directly scattered Gallade’s Sacred Sword.
Gallade was also sent flying.
He staggered as he landed, his life force already like a candle in the wind.
But Gallade’s gaze grew even brighter.
Only one thought remained in his heart.
Win this round for master!
"Garchomp, Dragon Rush!"
Cynthia watched Gallade.
Using Dragon Rush to finish Gallade would not bury his talent.
Julian was likewise unwilling to simply lie down and admit defeat.
He wanted to gamble.
"Gallade, Aerial Ace!"
Gallade also extended his elbow blades and charged towards the diving Garchomp.
His body spun in the air and actually miraculously avoided Dragon Rush.
Then he struck Garchomp’s back with one blade, causing Garchomp to sway lightly.
The audience let out cries of surprise.
The uncle said, "Looks like Gallade isn’t without a chance."
Garchomp lifted her eyes and immediately turned, driving Dragon Rush back at him.
"Dual Chop!"
Gallade used his last strength, stepping hard on the ground with the tips of his feet and closing in on Garchomp.
He struck Garchomp’s back twice with heavy chops.
Garchomp’s Dragon Rush became somewhat unstable from the Dragon-type power pouring into it.
Nina shook her head.
"You’re wrong. Gallade can’t beat Garchomp."
Garchomp roared and released an even stronger dragon-shaped current.
With a backflip, she struck Gallade’s back as well and directly sent him flying.
Gallade landed and struggled to rise, extending his trembling hands and elbow blades.
Even like this, he could still continue fighting.
Julian clenched his fist, responding to Gallade’s heart.
"Gallade, use our final Sacred Sword!"
A brilliant white blade of light took shape.
Gallade charged in front of Garchomp.
Dance of death.
"Garchomp, Dragon Claw!"
The two sides passed each other.
Gallade silently collapsed to the ground, while a clear wound also appeared on Garchomp’s shark fin.
Julian took out his Poké Ball and recalled Gallade.
"Gallade, you already did brilliantly."
Being able to injure Garchomp, even if it was only a light injury, was already an outstanding performance.
In the anime Paul had painstakingly worked to finally grasp Garchomp’s opening.
He had Torterra use Frenzy Plant, but in the end, it did not break through her defence.
Comparing the two, it was easy to see how excellent Gallade was.
"Primeape, fight to your heart’s content!"
Just by feeling Garchomp’s aura, Primeape began to burn.
"Primeape, Dynamic Punch!"
"Defend with Swords Dance."
Julian’s brows tightly furrowed.
A Garchomp with three Swords Dance boosts would probably take one Pokémon down with each claw.
Primeape’s full-power punch only resulted in it being sent flying by Garchomp’s shark fin.
It suddenly sprang back and once again swung a punch filled with ten-times rage towards Garchomp.
"Brick Break!"
Garchomp’s shark fin was dyed in white light and directly chopped Primeape away.
"Key, key!"
Rage surged into the sky, faintly carrying a trace of black aura.
Cynthia frowned slightly.
"Dragon Rush!"
"Primeape, gather your mental will. Control your rage. Think about your goal and focus your rage into your fist."
"Then aim at your target and throw that punch!"
Facing Garchomp, Primeape’s rage was somewhat hard to control, forcing Julian to reveal some details of Rage Fist ahead of time.
"Garchomp, wait."
Originally, Cynthia had planned to forcibly shut Primeape down and interrupt its excessively rising rage.
Since Julian had another way to handle it, she would let Julian do it.
The red rage vanished.
A faint black glow appeared around Primeape’s fist.
Fifteen-times strength rage allowed Primeape to pry open the power of its soul.
Let it throw this Rage Fist.
"Dragon Claw!"
Fist and claw collided.
Primeape was sent flying by Garchomp.
It rolled several times, climbed back up, and clenched its fist again.
"Dragon Claw!"
Primeape actually displayed even greater tenacity than Gallade.
It was knocked away five times in a row.
Yet each time, it climbed back up.
Its fist completely condensed into a layer of black light, and the power contained within rose by another five times.
A twenty-times strength Rage Fist.
This punch was already not very different from a true Rage Fist.
The power contained within it even moved Cynthia.
She lightly waved her hand.
"Garchomp, Dragon Rush!"
Garchomp pushed Primeape all the way to the edge of the battlefield before landing.
Primeape had already fainted.
Julian stepped forward and opened Primeape’s eyelids to check his condition.
Fortunately.
Julian breathed a sigh of relief.
He was still alive and unharmed.
Thank you, Cynthia and Garchomp
Primeape had grasped Rage Fist without danger.
Julian recalled Primeape into its Poké Ball and handed both Poké Balls to Maylene below the stage.
"Maylene, help me send them to Nurse Joy for treatment."
