Chapter 243: Who Needs Dynamax When Miniaturizing Is Cuter? (Membership Extra Chapter)
The video continued playing.
After Dragapult joined the team, Elaria’s trip through Galar settled into a relatively steady rhythm.
Every day, Nessa took her somewhere different.
Elaria carried a sketchbook everywhere she went, drawing whatever caught her eye, while occasionally having Hoopa film a few clips with the camera.
After an entire week of sightseeing, Nessa brought Elaria back to where they were staying in Hulbury and told her to rest for a few days.
That day, the two were eating when someone suddenly knocked on the door.
Nessa put down her coffee cup and went to answer it.
Standing outside was Bea.
She was dressed in training clothes, her hair neatly tied back.
"Good afternoon, Nessa, Minister Elaria. Sorry to bother you."
"Miss Bea?"
Elaria poked her head out from behind Nessa.
"What brings you here?"
"It’s like this."
Bea stepped inside and explained,
"Minister Elaria has already been in Galar for several days. We believe you’ve gotten a fairly good understanding of Galar’s ecology by now, so today we’re taking you to Wyndon Stadium to show you the most important part of Galarian culture."
"The most important part?"
Elaria blinked.
"Dynamax."
Bea spoke the word clearly.
"As part of the cultural exchange, we’ve decided to hold a Dynamax exhibition match for you at Wyndon Stadium."
"Every Gym Leader in Galar will be participating."
Nessa raised a hand.
"Why didn’t anyone tell me about this? I could’ve just brought Elaria there myself."
"Well..."
The corner of Bea’s mouth twitched almost imperceptibly.
"Leon was originally supposed to come pick both of you up personally. He said it would properly demonstrate how much importance we place on Minister Elaria’s visit."
"But on the way here... there was a slight problem."
"...He got lost again?"
"He got lost again."
Bea closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
"Raihan already went looking for him on his motorcycle, so the job of picking you up was reassigned to me."
Nessa could only rub her forehead helplessly.
It wasn’t exactly the first or second time something like this had happened.
"Let’s go."
Bea turned toward the door.
"All the other Gym Leaders are already there. We’re only waiting for you."
Wyndon Stadium.
Elaria climbed out of Bea’s car and stared up at the enormous structure, which was who-knew-how-many-times larger than Pokémon School.
Her golden eyes widened into circles.
"It’s huge!"
Hoopa floated up from above her head and spread both little hands, seemingly trying to measure the stadium’s diameter.
"This is bigger than any building Hoopa has ever seen! Except Arceus’s palace—"
"Hoopa, you’ve been to Arceus’s palace?"
Elaria blinked.
"Uh."
Hoopa froze in midair.
"Hoopa doesn’t remember clearly! That was a long, long time ago!"
"Hoopa’s memory only saves the exciting highlights from recent times!"
"Oh, I see."
Elaria nodded.
"Minister Elaria, welcome to the heart of Galar."
Bea called to her from nearby before pushing open the stadium doors.
The inside was even more spectacular than the exterior.
A gigantic Galar League emblem was painted in the center of the standard battle field.
The circular spectator stands surrounding the entire stadium were completely empty.
In the middle of the field stood a row of people.
Aside from Raihan, every Gym Leader in the Galar region had already arrived.
The moment Elaria walked inside, she spotted Marnie nearby and waved to her.
Marnie was leaning against the wall with a pair of headphones hanging around her neck.
When she saw Elaria, she simply gave her a small nod in greeting.
"Is everyone here?"
Nessa looked around.
"We’re still missing Leon and Raihan."
Bea checked her watch.
"Based on the average amount of time Leon stays lost, they should be arriving soon."
Just then—
The roar of an engine suddenly came from the stadium’s dome.
A second later...
Raihan’s motorcycle came flying in from the edge of the roof.
Its tires traced an extremely scientifically questionable arc through the air before the bike slammed heavily onto the battlefield.
It bounced twice before finally coming to a stop.
Leon jumped off the back.
The wind had blown his hair into a style nearly identical to a Bouffalant’s afro, yet his expression remained as confident and composed as ever.
"Sorry. We ran into a small problem on the way."
He straightened his collar.
"I’m late."
Raihan parked the motorcycle and turned toward Elaria.
"Elaria, sorry we’re late—this idiot got lost again."
"It’s okay."
Elaria shook her head.
"Miss Bea already brought me here."
Leon walked to the center of the field and clapped his hands.
"Since everyone’s finally here, let’s begin!"
"Elaria, every Gym Leader in the Galar region has gathered here today for one reason—to show the entire world the true charm of Dynamax!"
"Make sure you capture all of this on camera. You can turn it into a promotional video afterward."
Elaria nodded.
"No problem! I’ll have Big Sister Lillie connect the cameras in a moment and broadcast everything happening here to the whole world!"
Leon looked around to confirm that everyone was ready.
Then he took a deep breath and raised the Dynamax Band on his right wrist.
"Everyone!"
"Let Galar’s brilliance shine across the entire world—"
"EVERYONE, DYNAMAX!"
All the Gym Leaders raised their Dynamax Bands simultaneously.
Crimson-purple pillars of energy erupted from the bands at the same time.
The Poké Balls in everyone’s hands began expanding—
Larger.
And larger.
Elaria raised her camera.
Hoopa floated beside her carrying a backup camera, while Kirlia used its psychic power to hold a third camera off to the side.
At Leon’s command, everyone hurled their enormous Poké Balls into the air.
Ten beams of red light erupted across the battlefield.
Elaria hurriedly aimed the camera, afraid of missing the perfect shot.
However when the red light faded...
There wasn’t a single Dynamax Pokémon on the field.
Instead—A group of Pokémon small enough to fit in the palm of your hand were huddled together, squeaking and babbling at one another.
Every Gym Leader stared at the collection of miniature Pokémon before them.
A long silence followed.
"Pfft."
Hoopa was the first one to break.
It clapped both little hands over its mouth, shoulders shaking uncontrollably as its entire body twisted into an incredibly irregular S-shape in midair.
The backup camera nearly slipped from its hands.
Kirlia hurriedly caught it with psychic power.
Unfortunately—
The cameras were still rolling.
Everything happening inside the stadium was currently being broadcast live to the entire world.
On the field—Leon silently stared down at his miniature Charizard.
He remained silent for a very long time.
The Charizard was only about the size of a melon.
Even the flame on the tip of its tail was weaker than the flame from a cigarette lighter.
It sneezed.
Two sparks no larger than mung beans shot out of its nostrils.
Then it choked on its own sparks—
And started rolling around on the ground.
[VIP Chat Group]
[Raihan]: WHAT?! What the hell is this?! Dynamax in the Galar region DOESN’T LOOK LIKE THIS!
[Steven]: Hahahahahahahaha!! I’m dying! So this is the core culture of the Galar region?! How very cultured!
[Flint]: Hahaha! Parallel-world Leon gave that whole speech about "letting Galar’s brilliance shine across the entire world," and instead it turned into "let the entire world watch Galar screw up on debut"!
[Leon]: ...
[Volkner]: Screw up? What screwup? This is obviously strategy! I guarantee parallel-world Galar instantly became the most famous region in the world after this!
[Sidney]: Exactly! Infamy is still fame! Leon achieved more publicity with one disaster than ten World Championships ever could!
[Wallace]: So we’re saying parallel-world Leon did this on purpose now?
[Bruno]: Never expected Leon to be such a schemer.
[Fantina]: Leon: All according to plan.
[Flannery]: Hahahahahaha! I can’t—my stomach hurts from laughing!
