Pokemon: Skybound
Chapter 690 - 690: 690. Chaos Breeds Opportunity
The turbulent waves soon engulfed the entire pool, affecting both Walrein and Kingdra on the opposite side.
Even the normally composed Kingdra in the water was swept off balance, while the Walrein, stationed on the platform, was continually drenched by splashing water.
Though both were Water-type Pokémon accustomed to aquatic environments, the ferocity of the waves made maintaining balance a struggle.
Kai, hands casually tucked into his pockets, watched the scene unfold.
There's a saying: "In murky waters, one can fish freely."
Since this battle was already unfavorable for his two Pokémon, Kai decided to embrace the chaos.
If the arena was going to be unpredictable, he might as well turn the entire match into a disorderly free-for-all where opportunity arises from confusion.
Kai's experience in chaotic battles was extensive; he had faced countless skirmishes where both Trainers and Pokémon were thrown into disarray.
While Juan was older, Kai sensed he had rarely encountered such unpredictable circumstances.
As expected, Juan frowned at Kai's seemingly reckless strategy.
Despite his usual elegance and composure, Juan was momentarily stunned.
"What kind of strategy is this? How can someone battle so unconventionally?"
To Juan, Twister was merely an offensive move never a tool to disrupt the entire battlefield.
Yet now, the spiraling water tornadoes had thrown everything into chaos, leaving no distinction between friend and foe.
The two combined Tornados had grown even stronger, their overlapping force amplifying the destructive effect.
Water splashed everywhere, drenching Juan's ornate suit as messily as his mounting frustration.
Even in a relatively small pool, maintaining balance in such conditions was difficult.
Any pre-planned tactics vanished as quickly as ice forming and shattering in the midst of the Twisters.
Juan realized the situation required immediate action.
"Walrein! Use Aurora Beam!"
The Ice-type move was meant to control Dragonite and Milotic, but now its purpose was to stop the Twisters themselves.
Freezing the water would restore some semblance of order, allowing the battle to proceed properly.
Walrein opened its jaws, releasing a blue beam toward the nearest Twister.
In the blink of an eye, the beam struck, and ice began forming, spreading across the tornado.
However, just as the freezing seemed about to succeed, the second Twister approached, shattering the forming ice and sending it tumbling back into the pool.
Juan's lips pressed into a thin line. One Walrein could not control two Twisters simultaneously, though some progress was made the targeted tornado's intensity was noticeably reduced.
Before Juan could issue another command, Milotic burst from the water next to the platform, ramming Walrein and pushing it into the pool. Simultaneously, Dragonite dove from the sky, using Outrage against Kingdra.
Kai had anticipated this. While the Twisters were disruptive, he had long trained under adverse conditions. For him, the chaotic environment was a tool, not a hindrance.
In contrast, Juan struggled to adapt, focusing on controlling the Twisters rather than his Pokémon. The combination of rising water, crashing waves, and dual battle commands divided his attention, creating the perfect opening for Kai.
With a splash, both opposing Pokémon hit the water. Walrein struggled under Milotic's attack, unable to surface, let alone continue freezing the Twister. The advantage slipped from Juan's grasp.
Kingdra dove to evade Dragonite's assault, giving Juan a chance to consider a counterattack.
He intended for Kingdra to assist Walrein and target Milotic, forming a pincer.
Yet in the unpredictable currents, even Kingdra's speed was insufficient. A wrong move could see it swept upwards by a Twister.
Despite their size and strength, neither Pokémon could resist the chaotic flow.
By engaging directly, Juan ceded the skies to Dragonite. Any attempt to recover could lead to Dragonite striking again.
Finally, Juan chose the only path he believed feasible: face the chaos directly. He commanded Kingdra to Hydro Pump, aiming at Dragonite.
The powerful water stream arced through the air, but Kai had anticipated it. Dragonite, seasoned in countless battles and a veteran of the Silver Conference, maneuvered effortlessly, flying with unmatched precision.
"Dragonite, use Dragon Dive!"
Dragonite accelerated, folding its wings like a streaking arrow, its body slicing through the air.
The speed was terrifying.
Before Juan could react, Dragonite collided with Kingdra, sending it rebounding across the pool. Twisted by the residual Twister, Kingdra was hurled skyward, spinning uncontrollably before crashing back into the water.
"Damn it!"
Juan's expression darkened as he realized too late: Dragonite's strength was far beyond a casual evaluation. The battle was no longer just about type matchups it was about Kai's mastery and precision.
Kingdra floundered, unable to defend, as Dragonite prepared for another crushing Dragon-type strike, leaving Juan stunned at the escalating devastation.
The entire sequence had been triggered by one misjudgment underestimating Kai's tactical genius and now the chain reaction left him scrambling.
