Chapter 172: Chapter 172: The Giants Slumbering Beneath the Temple

Master’s already this strong...

Is there anyone left in Kalos who could actually challenge him?

Korinna never cared much about titles or status.

But seeing her master grow stronger and stronger...

She felt genuinely happy for him.

As for Mairin...

Her thoughts were much simpler.

We’re getting stronger and stronger.

That’s right.

Sora handled the fighting.

She handled the cheering.

"Anyway..."

"Let’s eat first."

Sora announced lunch.

After filling their stomachs...

They would plant the black carrots, lure out Spectrier, and complete the final capture.

The process afterward went just as smoothly.

With Calyrex’s help...

A single wave of psychic power cultivated the frozen ground.

The carrot seeds planted themselves neatly into the soil.

Then...

They sprouted and matured at an unbelievable speed.

"All done."

Calyrex withdrew His power.

Together with Sora and the others...

They concealed themselves within the nearby forest.

Quietly waiting...

For history to repeat itself.

Clop... Clop...

Accompanied by ripples of dark violet energy...

A horse-like Pokémon shrouded in eerie shadows slowly emerged from within the darkness.

Spectrier’s personality differed greatly from Glastrier’s.

Unlike the rather simple-minded white steed...

Spectrier remained extremely cautious.

Even standing before its favorite food...

It hesitated for quite some time before approaching.

"Now!"

Seeing the bait had worked...

Sora immediately gave the signal.

Neigh?!

Startled...

Spectrier jumped in alarm.

After glancing longingly at the mountain of Shadow Carrots...

It reluctantly turned to flee.

"My beloved steed..."

"Return to My side."

Just as Spectrier was about to disappear into the shadows...

Calyrex acted.

His psychic power reached out...

Pulling Spectrier directly back out of the darkness.

Neigh...?

Seeing Calyrex...

Spectrier’s expression immediately changed.

Not fear.

Not rejection.

Only surprise.

It had never expected its former king to appear here.

"You still remember Me... don’t you?"

Calyrex gently stroked Spectrier’s head...

Calming the restless steed.

Seeing this...

Sora picked up a Shadow Carrot and handed it to Calyrex.

The King personally fed His old companion.

Crunch... Crunch...

Spectrier happily munched away...

Letting out contented neighs.

Clearly...

It still acknowledged Calyrex as its master.

Neither steed had ever held any grudge against Him.

If anything...

They had simply felt abandoned.

The reason they continued wandering this land...

Was because they believed Freezington still grew Frost Carrots and Shadow Carrots.

Long ago...

The two steeds had frequently caused trouble in the village while searching for their favorite treats.

"You may proceed, Sora."

"My beloved steed has accepted Me once more."

"You may capture it now."

"Are you sure?"

Sora asked.

"Shouldn’t I explain the salary and employee benefits first?"

When he captured Glastrier...

Unlimited Frost Carrots had basically sealed the deal.

But Spectrier...

Seemed considerably smarter.

Probably not quite as easy to bribe.

Neigh...

Spectrier glanced toward Sora.

Then...

It chose to trust Calyrex.

"Come on in, Spectrier."

Sora took out an Ultra Ball.

Gently tapping it against Spectrier’s forehead...

He recalled the dark steed inside.

Click.

With that crisp sound...

The capture was complete.

"Thanks."

Sora smiled at Calyrex.

"Come back out, Spectrier."

"And you too, Glastrier."

Earlier...

He had temporarily recalled Glastrier to avoid frightening Spectrier away.

Now...

With both royal steeds gathered...

Most of Sora’s goals for this trip to Galar had already been accomplished.

Only one final objective remained.

An important one.

Though...

Perhaps not quite as urgent anymore.

Of course...

Sora hadn’t forgotten to make a new pair of Reins of Unity for Calyrex.

Interestingly...

He didn’t need to create another set from scratch.

He simply wove Spectrier’s mane together with the existing reins.

Naturally...

He still had to sing the Song of Offering.

There was no escaping that part.

"Phew..."

After wiping the sweat from his forehead...

Sora handed over the completed reins.

"With these..."

"You’ll be able to unite with either Glastrier or Spectrier whenever you wish."

"Thank you."

This time...

Calyrex simply expressed His gratitude.

Sora had already done far too much for Him.

Their bond had long surpassed the point where repeated words of thanks meant anything.

Rather than speaking...

Calyrex wished to repay Sora through actions.

The Crown Shrine... atop the snowy peaks.

Sora remembered that deep within the Crown Tundra stood an ancient temple.

Beneath it...

Several mysterious ruins were hidden.

"Calyrex."

"Do you know the temple deep within the snowfields?"

After capturing Spectrier...

The group returned to their cabin.

They were currently treating their newest companion to a hearty meal.

Watching Spectrier happily eat its carrots...

Glastrier immediately became jealous.

Neigh...

"Alright, alright."

"You have some too."

Sora smiled, stuffing a Frost Carrot into Glastrier’s mouth.

"I was once asleep..."

"Near that very place."

Calyrex elegantly nibbled on a carrot while answering.

"Do you intend to explore the shrine?"

"I do."

Capturing the rabbit king upon his steed had already granted Sora the power he desired most.

But...

Who would ever complain about having even more powerful Pokémon?

"According to my investigation..."

"There are five ancient ruins hidden beneath the shrine."

"Within them..."

"Sleep five Legendary Pokémon."

"What?!"

Korinna gasped.

"So many Legendary Pokémon?!"

"That’s what surprised you?"

Mairin couldn’t help laughing.

She had expected Korinna to say something else.

Like asking Sora to let her catch one.

But Korinna never even considered that.

A true Trainer...

Should earn their own Pokémon.

Relying on Sora?

What would be the point?

She possessed the straightforward mindset of a martial artist.

Compared to receiving power from others...

She far preferred strength earned through her own hard work.

"I vaguely..."

"Remember something."

Calyrex frowned thoughtfully.

Unfortunately...

The memories remained hazy.

"I apologize."

"It has simply been too long."

"My recollections are no longer clear."

"I only remember..."

"There were indeed Pokémon entrusted with guarding the shrine."

"They are known as..."

"The Legendary Titans."

"Oh!"

Korinna’s eyes immediately lit up.

"I know those!"

"Regirock, Regice, and Registeel!"

"Right, Master?"

"That’s right."

Those official names were rather cumbersome.

Personally...

Sora preferred calling them the Rock Titan, Ice Titan, and Steel Titan.

"Besides those three..."

"There are also Regieleki..."

"And Regidrago."

The latter two...

Were Legendary Pokémon introduced in the Galar era.

Known more casually as...

The Electric Titan...

And the Dragon Titan.
