Chapter 118: A Superior Bloodline

  • Next Chapter

Deep within the Central Continent, far below a mountain range that had remained under the control of dragons for generations, a massive pair of golden eyes opened.

Several figures inside the cavern noticed it at once and lowered their heads.

The dragon resting before them was so large that even while lying down, his body occupied most of the inner cavern. Part of his tail disappeared farther into the darkness, while one of his claws alone was larger than the figures waiting for his orders.

He had been sleeping for quite some time.

Nobody had woken him up. Instead, something else did.

The Dragon King raised his head and remained silent for several seconds, feeling the strange sensation that had reached him from somewhere incredibly far away. "I can sense someone of a superior bloodline..."

The figures below became more attentive.

The Dragon King closed his eyes again and tried to follow that feeling. It was faint, almost disappearing whenever he tried to trace where it came from, yet his bloodline had reacted the moment that existence appeared.

It filled him with curiosity. "It’s not exactly one of us, and she might have come from the Higher Worlds..."

One of the figures finally raised his head. "She?"

"I believe so."

The Dragon King concentrated again.

The sensation came and went.

He could tell it belonged to something very young. In fact, from what he could sense, whatever had caused his bloodline to react had only recently entered the world.

That part confused him even more. A newly hatched existence should not have caused a reaction like this from such a distance.

"We have to retrieve that one..." His golden eyes narrowed. "It just hatched... I suppose, but I can’t see through where that one is located."

One of the servants took a step forward. "Should we search for her personally, Dragon King?"

"No."

Sending powerful dragons across several regions without knowing where they were going would attract far too much attention, and there was no reason to do something like that when they had another option.

The Dragon King’s claw scraped lightly against the ground. "We’ll have the Wyverns search for the little one instead. If they find her... we’ll be alerted."

The figures below understood.

Wyverns existed across many parts of Cyrune. Their bloodlines were far inferior to true dragons, yet the traces of draconic blood within them were enough for some to react whenever a much stronger related bloodline appeared nearby.

They did not need to understand what they were looking for.

They only needed to find her.

"Yes, Dragon King."

"Do not have them attack the hatchling," the Dragon King added. "If they find her, I want to know where she is."

"Understood."

Another figure bowed and prepared to leave, only for the Dragon King to speak again. "Also, I sensed something else earlier."

The servant stopped.

The Dragon King’s gaze moved upward, though all he could see above him was the stone ceiling of the cavern.

He could not properly explain the second sensation. Unlike the bloodline that had awakened him, this one had not come from a single creature. It felt far broader than that.

Something within Cyrune had changed.

He had lived long enough to witness Kingdoms rise and disappear. Wars involving millions had happened during his lifetime, and some of the powers that once dominated entire continents had already become names written in old records.

Those things rarely interested him anymore. However, this one...

"Soon enough, the entire World of Cyrune will be lively."

The servants remained quiet.

The Dragon King let out a low sound before continuing. "I will join the farce and see if I can witness something groundbreaking before I ascend further and go to a Higher World..."

"This is noted, Dragon King."

"Go, you need to work. Investigate everything."

The servants bowed before leaving the cavern one after another. The Dragon King watched until the last of them disappeared.

His thoughts returned to the bloodline he had sensed. ’It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this sensation.’

There had only been one other occasion when his own bloodline reacted in a way he could not control. It had happened so long ago that most of the dragons alive today had not even been born yet.

That time, he had been given the chance to speak with an existence he still remembered clearly.

’The Ancestral Dragon...’

The Dragon King’s gaze sharpened. He had only spoken with that existence once. Even then, calling what happened a proper conversation was somewhat generous. The Ancestral Dragon acknowledged him, answered several questions, and disappeared not long after.

Yet he had never forgotten the feeling. What he sensed from this hatchling was not the same. He knew that much. Still, the reaction from his own bloodline bothered him enough that he wanted answers.

The Dragon King eventually lowered his head again. The Wyverns would search. His servants would investigate whatever else was happening throughout Cyrune.

There was no reason for him to move yet.

His golden eyes slowly closed as he returned to his slumber.

"If a fight is going to happen, it must happen outside the capital!" Ernest’s voice was almost drowned out by the wind.

Zishan, on the other hand, was far more concerned about the hand currently holding the back of his collar. "Why are you carrying me like this?!"

His legs were hanging in the air while he held Silvy tightly against his chest.

Ernest ignored the complaint and continued flying away from Olmost at a speed Zishan could not maintain on his own.

Elinox followed several meters behind them with Ollie in her arms while Zishan twisted around to look back toward the capital. Several enormous figures had appeared high above the distant buildings, and the moment Ernest changed direction with Silvy, every one of them followed.

Zishan’s expression darkened. ’Fuck...’

Ernest had clearly noticed the same thing.

Olmost was already dealing with the Kingdom of Degenerates. A fight involving Wyverns whose Levels he had not even confirmed yet could become a disaster if it happened above the capital.
