Chapter 682: Crossing the River of Time Is Not a Big Deal

He held up a hand, his expression earnest.

“Darling, have I ever lied to you?”

He reached out and hugged her.

Javier Sinclair looked into her eyes and said earnestly, “This truly isn’t dangerous! Celeste Grant, you need to have a little faith in me. For the Demon God, crossing the river of time is no great feat. Don’t forget, not only am I a powerful fighter, but I’ve also mastered the Power of Time Law.”

Celeste Grant cupped his face. “Not dangerous? If it’s not dangerous, then why did you look like you were heading off to a battlefield? Anyone who didn’t know better would think you were about to declare war on Empyria.”

Javier Sinclair chuckled softly. His ears reddened slightly as he touched his lips. “Well, there is a reason. It’s just… I can’t bear to leave you.”

Celeste Grant raised an eyebrow.

“You can’t bear to leave me? Explain.”

He explained, “It’s like this. While crossing the river of time isn’t dangerous, my return is uncertain. The further back in time I go, the greater the potential for a time discrepancy upon my return. It could be off by a few days, or perhaps a few months. A long journey could mean a difference of several years. The thought of being separated from you for that long… I just can’t bear it.”

As he said this, he rested his chin on Celeste Grant’s shoulder. “I had hoped that there would be records of Sealing Techniques from the Ancient Times in the old texts. If there were, I wouldn’t have to leave you. It would have been the best of both worlds. But it’s a shame; I couldn’t find any. It’s my fault, really. Back in the Ancient Times, I should have collected more Secret Techniques.”

The main issue was that back then, he’d considered those things useless junk that just took up space, so he had either burned them or thrown them away.

Celeste Grant fell silent.

‘I’d considered all sorts of possibilities, but I never imagined this was the reason. When I saw his solemn expression earlier, looking for all the world like he was marching off to war, I thought it must be incredibly dangerous.’

‘It seems I’d really been overthinking it. I shouldn’t try to apply normal logic to my Archfiend’s thought process.’

Celeste Grant glanced at him and couldn’t help but laugh. “Haha, so that’s what this was all about.” She gave his shoulder a playful punch. “Javier Sinclair, you should have just said so! You scared me with that grim face of yours; I really thought it was something dangerous. Next time, just spit it all out at once.”

He nodded slightly.

“I understand. I’ll do as you say.”

Celeste Grant sat in his lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and said with a smile, “Since you can’t bear to leave me, then just don’t go. Traveling across the river of time… even if you say it isn’t dangerous, I’m still worried about you going. Besides, I don’t think this Seal on me absolutely has to be broken.”

He shook his head slightly. “No, that’s not an option. Keeping that Seal is a latent danger to you. All potential threats should be eliminated as early as possible to prevent future complications. I have to go. For the past six months, I’ve scoured every ancient text in the Demon Realm. I haven’t found a true way to break this Seal, so going back to the Ancient Times is my only option.”

Celeste Grant called his name.

“Javier Sinclair, I really don’t need…”

He covered her lips with his hand.

“This isn’t about what you think. It’s about what I think.”

Celeste Grant burst out laughing.

“Pfft… Where did you learn to talk like a domineering CEO?”

He grasped her hand, his tone earnest. “Darling, this is for the sake of our future. Breaking the Seal is essential. Please, trust me.”

Seeing the serious look on his face, Celeste Grant reached out and hugged him.

“Okay, I’ll listen to you.” Then she added, “But you can go later! It’s not that urgent, anyway. And when you do go, you have to be careful.” At this, she looked up. “Oh, right. Can I go with you?”

He shook his head slightly. “You can’t. Your body can’t withstand the tearing forces of crossing time.” ‘Not unless she was protected by Divine Power, but the power in her body flickers in and out of existence. It wouldn’t be enough.’

Celeste Grant sighed, resting her chin on his shoulder as she said, “Alright then! I guess I’ll just stay put in the Demon Realm! I’ll stay home and look after the kids.”

He hummed in assent.

“Mm.”

“Then just go later! Wait until our daughter is a little older. Or maybe in another ten years or so, that’d be fine too.”

He held her, murmuring, “Celeste, I don’t want to leave you all either, but the matter of the Seal in your bloodline… it’s best to resolve it sooner rather than later. That’s why I plan to leave in a few days.”

She froze for a moment.

“So soon.”

“I have to go sooner or later, so might as well get it over with.” He gently stroked her long hair. “It’s just… I’ll have to make you wait for me. What if you get lonely while I’m gone?”

Celeste Grant let out a soft laugh. “You’re being silly. I’ll have our son and daughter with me. And Nerida and the others will be here to keep me company. How could I be lonely? You, on the other hand… you’re the one going all that way by yourself. It’ll be hard on you.”

She stared at his face.

‘Suddenly, her eyes burned with unshed tears, and she leaned against him, silent. She had fallen deeply in love with this man long ago. She used to think being blinded by love was a bad thing. But what if the person you fell for was the absolute best? Then it wasn’t one-sided; it was two people running toward each other. Isn’t that what love is all about?’

Hugging him, Celeste Grant said, “Javier Sinclair, when you get there, take care of yourself. If you run into any danger, come back right away. Whether or not you can find a way to break the Seal doesn’t matter. You are what’s most important. And… I’ll miss you.”

Javier Sinclair held her tighter.

“Mm.”

“Wait…”

She lifted her head to speak again, but his lips were already on hers. His large hand cradled the back of her neck, pulling her into a passionate kiss.

The two shared a deep, loving kiss on the wicker chair.

A gentle breeze rustled, sending a few leaves fluttering down. The scene was breathtakingly beautiful, like a moment frozen in a painted scroll, a treasure to be kept forever.

When the kiss ended, he held Celeste Grant’s face, a smile blooming on his own. “There’s no need to worry, my dear. Have you forgotten? I am the Demon God—immortal and indestructible.”

Immortal and indestructible.

That’s right.

He couldn’t die.

Celeste Grant scratched her head, as if the thought had only just occurred to her. She grabbed his wrist. “Even so, you have to be careful. You may be immortal, but you can still get hurt. And it still hurts when you’re injured.”

“Alright, I understand.”

He gently patted her back and said softly, “Don’t overthink it. Cheer up.” As he spoke, he held out his hand, and a piece of candy appeared in it. He unwrapped it and brought it to her lips. “Here, have some candy.”

Celeste Grant opened her mouth and took the candy.

A faint sweetness spread through her mouth.

He asked, “Is it sweet, my dear?”

Celeste Grant nodded slightly.

“Mmm, it’s sweet.”

“Is that so? Let me have a taste.”

‘A taste?’

The meaning dawned on her, and she quickly tried to stand. But an arm snaked around her waist, and he kissed her again. After the kiss, he brushed a finger over his lips. “You’re right,” he murmured, “it is very sweet.”

Celeste Grant: “…”

‘You’re learning some bad habits, Archfiend!’

‘It seems he’s about to graduate from his innocent phase.’
