Chapter 13: Sky Palace City

We ended up going for more rounds, she came more than five times and I came twice after that. When we were done, we cleaned up and got ready to leave.

I checked the map and saw the route that led to Sky Palace City. The forest closer to it was filled with beasts of many ranks that would prove to be an issue if we used there. I was not willing to risk it at all.

We might have gained some strength, but it was still reckless to act without being on a safe level yet.

"How long will it take us to arrive at Sky Palace City?" Lia asked.

Tez stopped and looked ahead. "We are actually quite close."

After that, it did not take us more than two hours to make it out of the forest with the map, and immediately we saw the city. Its grand walls rose into the sky, guards walking up and down the walls.

Carriages trooped in toward the town, people walked in and out. It was really a massive sight to behold.

I looked at Lia. She stared in disbelief at this grand city, then she turned and looked at me.

"What if there is a gate fee?" She asked.

I pulled out a pouch from my side and showed it to her. "You do not have to worry about that, I got this out of those slave traders."

She stared at it for a bit and then she smiled. "Should never doubt you."

"Haha," I laughed but said nothing else. We took our time and stared at the city that would become the start of everything for us in this world.

"Lia, I want you to make a promise to me," I said suddenly. She was a bit confused by what I meant by that, but she still replied.

"Whatever you want, I’m willing to do," she said.

I let out a smile. "Then promise me this, you’ll stand with me as we rise to the very top. You and I, we will make it to the very top of this world and control everything."

I turned to look at her. "We will have it all in our hand to control and use whenever we want, and then all that made us suffer will face our wrath."

She listened to every word that I said, and when I was done, she smiled, wrapped her hand around my neck and pulled me in for a kiss. We locked lips for a few seconds until she detached and pulled me along.

We made it to the main road, paved with brick-colored bricks and fitted properly. It was clear that Sky Palace City loved to show their power and riches.

’This is my kind of place, the place for the rich and powerful to thrive because in this sort of place I can lay the groundwork.’

The Kingdom of Draconis was bound to feel my presence. All I had to do was play the proper game.

We moved with the slow line until we made it to the front. I looked at the guards there, each one had on a full military suit. It was black with silver trims. It was shocking to see them wearing this sort of pristine uniform out here, but it was clear that the city loved to keep up appearances.

The suits were a little bit more tailored for combat, though, from the look of it.

They had their swords by their waist and helmets on their heads. Only their eyes showed, giving off a pretty scary look. On their chest and helmets were crests, two wings spread, the crest of the city. It looked pretty nice, I had to say.

"Identify yourselves," one of the guards asked Lia and me.

"We don’t really have identities on us. It is a long story," I said while my eyes already scanned for the smallest details that I could get. I noticed that his ring was a bit rusted and there was a rip at the side of his boots, and with that I knew what kind of approach to take.

I leaned in close to his ear and spoke.

"We have plans to make our identity here, but some people are after us and we do not want them to get information on us, so we would really love it if you could keep things quiet."

I pulled out one small pouch, one of the pouches I gained from the traders. I had left a bit of coins inside because I knew I might need it in a time like this.

"Your ring seems pretty rusted and the fact that you have a tear on the side of your shoe which your wife has not fixed tells me there is a bit of a scuffle at home due to a lack of money.

Let’s keep this quiet and you can have this all. You seem respectable and pretty smart, I hope I was right."

He looked at me for a few seconds and then snatched the pouch from my hand and tucked it into his pocket.

"Next time you try this we might have an issue," the guard said and stepped aside. I knew I had won, but I still did not like his attitude. It was not time for that, though, so I let it be and walked past with Lia.

We made it past the gates and stepped into the city, our eyes widened even more as we looked at the magnificence of this entire place.
