Chapter 3106: Chapter 99: The Wang Family’s "Ordinary" Clan Members

...

Dongxia Zhongtu.

Divine Capital Luojing.

As the capital of the Dongxia Divine Dynasty, Luojing’s prosperity is not only unique within the Dongxia Divine Dynasty, it is just as unique across the entire Sacred Domain.

Search the whole Sacred Domain, and you won’t find a second city this vast, this bustling, this powerful.

Which isn’t really surprising.

Because the Dongxia Divine Dynasty is the only unified, centralized imperial dynasty among the Four Great Divine Continents—God Continent is Divine Dynasty, Divine Dynasty is God Continent.

The other three God Continents are all carved up by competing forces; within any single force, the number of Taoist Master–level experts never exceeds two, and the territory occupied by any single force is at most half of Dongxia’s.

Luojing, as the center of the entire God Continent, is naturally flourishing.

And with Luojing so prosperous, its economy is of course extremely developed as well.

The Ji Family of the Ancient Divine Tribe, as a clan with an ancient lineage and a history of over a million years, has a family industry that is naturally both extremely complex and enormous, touching every aspect of daily life. Among these, their military Artifact Refining industry is one of the pillar sectors the Ji Family relies on for survival.

The remote outskirts of Luojing’s northern district.

Here stands a workshop under the Ji Family’s name, called [Prosperous Workshop].

Although it bears the title of a Ji Family workshop, in practice it’s nothing more than an ordinary Refining Workshop run by collateral Ji clansmen.

This workshop is under the Ji Family’s protection, and it also takes on a small portion of the Ji Family’s military Artifact Refining orders. Though the bulk of the profit is swallowed by the Ji main branch, by resorting to "refined management," "reasonable tax avoidance," and similar methods, they can still live quite comfortably.

At this moment.

Inside Prosperous Workshop.

Dusk had just fallen, and only then did Ximen Yaoqing finally finish a day’s Artifact Refining work.

Dragging his exhausted body, he changed out of his refining work-clothes, took his own [Wang’s Standard Edition Communication Watch] from the wardrobe and strapped it on, then immediately, full of excitement, tapped open a familiar avatar and sent a voice message.

"Cui’er, I used the watch to book two tickets for the large projection of ’Rise of Divine Martial 2’. I’ll wait for you at the usual place tonight—after dinner we’ll go watch the big projection."

The so-called standard edition watch is actually Wang’s entry-level model marketed to commoners—cheap to buy, with low basic communication fees.

Precisely because of this, Wang’s communication watches exploded in popularity all across Luojing. After more than ten years, the city has practically reached the point of one watch per person.

You have to know, while Luojing does have the lofty Divine Emperor and one big shot after another from the top Prominent Families, far more numerous are its countless ordinary civilians. Many of them have come from other Saint Mansions in the Central Lands, and even from overseas, to try their luck in Luojing as "Floating Luo Jing" drifters.

They harbor dreams, hoping to gain a foothold in Luojing, settle down and start families, produce descendants, and ultimately become true Luojing natives.

Ximen Yaoqing waited for a while without seeing any reply from Cui’er. Instead, he received a mass message from his direct supervisor: "Everyone, don’t be in a hurry to leave today. We’re staying late for an important meeting tonight to study and understand the Ji Family Head’s speech and spirit, and to memorize the Family Head’s quotations. In a few days a Ji Family young master will be coming down to inspect."

A gods-damned "important meeting" at night.

Ximen Yaoqing’s face went dark; he almost smashed the watch right then and there.

Meetings—if you have to hold them, can’t you hold them during work hours? Why do they always have to be overtime meetings! If the supervisor were standing in front of him right now, he’d really want to slap him across the face.

Unfortunately, no matter how much discontent or indignation he had, when he saw his coworkers in the group chat each sending a "received," Ximen Yaoqing still obediently typed out a single "received."

There’s no helping it. Luojing has too many people and the competition is too fierce; surviving here is truly difficult.

In truth, Ximen Yaoqing himself comes from a fairly decent family in a remote Immortal Dynasty countryside. His clan owns land and industries and even has a Divine Power Inheritance.

And Ximen Yaoqing himself, at a young age, is already a Tianren Realm Cultivator, and has mastered solid Artifact Refining skills. If he’d stayed with the clan, it would not have been a problem for him to become a Purple Abode Elder in the future.

But he was unwilling to spend his entire life in such mediocrity, so he went so far as to cross the seas to seek his fortune in Luojing.

He’d thought that with his considerable refining skills he’d be able to carve out a world of his own in Luojing. Yet reality had slapped him hard in the face.

Luojing gathers the elite of the world. Someone like him, who still seemed dazzling in a small place, became immediately ordinary and unremarkable once thrown into the crowd of talents in Luojing.

After one setback and blow after another, Ximen Yaoqing finally gradually found his own place—getting a day-in, day-out job in a Refining Workshop and finding a girlfriend who was likewise a Floating Luo Jing drifter.

He hoped that through his own efforts, his life would slowly get better.

First save enough to buy the cheapest house in these remote northern suburbs of the city, then live a steady life with Cui’er, and afterward create better conditions for their child so that in the future the kid can truly gain a foothold in Luojing and become a real Luojing native.

It was precisely this dream that made him work so hard, so desperately, every single day; and even outside of work he never stopped painstakingly studying Refining Technique and production technology.

Yet just as Ximen Yaoqing sent his "received," the supervisor suddenly cursed directly in the work group: "Ximen Yaoqing, did you send some kind of Artifact Refining improvement proposal to the Second Workshop Master?"

"I just think there are problems with the current production process and some of the techniques..." Ximen Yaoqing argued weakly.

That line immediately ignited the supervisor’s fury. In front of everyone in the work group, he unleashed a torrent of abuse, things like "Your ability isn’t much, but your scheming sure is," "If you’re so capable, why don’t you ascend to the heavens," and "If you don’t want to work properly, then get the hell out."
