I had some guests over today and had a little to drink, so I’m going to ramble a bit. Think of it as me talking after a few drinks. I’ll delete this in tomorrow’s update.

I’ve noticed some people in the review section lately who keep leaving comments along the lines of, "Someone who is X shouldn’t be doing Y..." To spell it out, it’s usually something like this: "How can someone with so much power be such a moron? Why would they actually do something like *that*?"

That’s the gist of it, more or less.

Fine. I’ll explain it in the simplest terms I can. If you still don’t understand after this...

Okay, how about this: Someone has fantastic grades, is a top student, and graduates with a PhD, so why are they such a social failure? They can’t get along with anyone at their job! They’re as proud as a peacock, and no one wants to bother with them. What a moron, right?

Or this: A master welder is absolutely incredible in his professional field. But damn it, why is he so abrasive? He’s always offending people, always saying stupid things. What a moron!

Or: Yuan Longping, the father of hybrid rice, is a great scientist. So how come he can’t build an atomic bomb...?

Bruce Lee was nothing short of a First Generation Grandmaster, but rumor has it his death had something to do with a woman. What a tragedy. How could he have been so stupid? Didn’t he know that femme fatales are nothing but trouble?

A huge movie star who has played countless heroic roles ends up endorsing a fraudulent product. Wow, how could he do that? How could he stoop so low just for a little bit of money?

Why would someone take scandalous photos of themselves? Don’t they know you can’t just send your computer in for repairs?

Why does the casting couch exist? Aren’t powerful people afraid the actresses will expose them?

Why do officials dare to take bribes? Haven’t they seen how many of them end up meeting a miserable fate?

There are plenty of things you might think are impossible, so why do they keep happening every single day? Because that’s life!

Everyone has their own specialty. Who ever said that a genius in one area is automatically a genius in another? Have you never heard of the child prodigies who go to college in their teens only to get kicked out because they can’t even take care of themselves?

You read books for enjoyment. Why bring so many preconceived notions and malicious assumptions into it? Isn’t it exhausting?

Fine, some of my "reader friends" operate on a level that is just too high for the rest of us. So please, do everyone a favor and keep your brilliance to yourself. Don’t pull it out and scare people with it.

It’s like I always say: if you want to offer criticism, please have some decency. Be constructive. If you do, I, Xiaodao, will be incredibly grateful and will humbly accept it.

But if you get used to spewing vitriol, and you carry that habit into the real world, then it’ll be other people who are left wondering, "That person seems normal enough, so why do they sound like a barking dog the moment they open their mouth?"
