Pursuing Her Best Friend after Confession Failed

Chapter 769 - 265 Qi Siyu: Does He Want to Keep Me? (Beginning of the Month, Requesting Monthly Votes)_2

Li Yuan was naturally generous with a woman who was sincerely devoted to him.

He joked with a smile, "Mrs. Qi, you know I’ve been quite busy recently and haven’t had much time to spend with you. I had a bank card made specially for you a few days ago..."

"Li Yuan, I don’t want—"

Qi Siyu had just opened her mouth when Li Yuan interrupted her.

"Siyu, let me finish. I know what you mean, but you have to allow me to express my love, right? If you don’t accept it, that means you don’t love me."

"It’s not like that, but..." Qi Siyu said quickly.

"No ’buts.’ That’s final. I have other things to do, so I have to go." He added, "Oh, and Mrs. Qi, you don’t have a car yet. You might want to check some out."

After saying that, Li Yuan didn’t wait for Qi Siyu to respond and just hung up.

He chuckled softly, shaking his head in amusement.

It really was strange. Other men had multiple girlfriends who would find all sorts of ways to ask them for money. He, on the other hand, couldn’t give his money away even if he tried. Whether it was the bank card he gave to Xia Zhijin or the one for Bai Weixi, they barely used them. Especially Bai Weixi. She didn’t splurge on expensive bags and luxury goods as he had imagined. It puzzled him deeply. Anyway, he was now decked out in luxury brands from head to toe. In his past life, he couldn’t have even dreamed of affording these brands. Now, he could wear a new piece every day and toss it out without a second thought. This was the simple, unadorned life of the wealthy.

After Li Yuan hung up, Qi Siyu held the gold-embossed bank card in her delicate white hand, feeling a complex mix of emotions.

She was both deeply touched and a little uneasy. She was touched that Li Yuan, despite his busy schedule, was still thinking of her. He had even gone out of his way to have a special bank card made for her, tying it to his birthday.

The unease stemmed from her fear that Li Yuan might think she was only with him for his money.

"You big jerk, but I’m really not after your money!" she muttered. "If it were just for money, plenty of wealthy men have chased me in the past. I only like you for who you are."

While Qi Siyu was still grappling with her thoughts, the door to the office was suddenly flung open, and a figure in a sizzling outfit stormed in.

As soon as Liang Jingjing entered, she saw Qi Siyu staring blankly at a bank card, so lost in thought that she didn’t even notice her friend’s approach.

Liang Jingjing waved her hand in front of Qi Siyu’s face. "Siyu, what are you daydreaming about?"

Hearing Liang Jingjing’s voice, Qi Siyu snapped back to reality, flustered. "Uh—nothing!" she stammered.

Liang Jingjing sniffed the air curiously, detecting something unusual.

"Something’s not quite right," she said. "The air in your office smells... strange."

Hearing her best friend’s words, Qi Siyu glanced guiltily toward the trash can, which concealed some used tissues and wipes.

Those were the remnants from the ’game’ she had just played with Li Yuan...

Fearing Liang Jingjing might discover something, Qi Siyu hurriedly changed the subject.

"Jingjing, are you going to the awards gala the day after tomorrow?"

Liang Jingjing’s attention was successfully diverted. "What awards gala?" she asked curiously.

Qi Siyu smiled. "The awards gala for the ’Milk Tea Girl’ competition that you’ve been so excited about."

"Siyu, you managed to get tickets?" Liang Jingjing asked in surprise.

Qi Siyu grinned and held up two invitations from her desk.

"I didn’t have to scramble for them; they were a gift."

Seeing the invitations in Qi Siyu’s hand, Liang Jingjing understood immediately and said teasingly, "Li Yuan sent these, didn’t he?"

Qi Siyu smiled sweetly. "Mhmm~~"

Liang Jingjing pursed her lips. "Well, at least he’s thoughtful enough not to forget about us two teachers."

Qi Siyu looked at her good friend and sighed quietly to herself, choosing not to say more.

She was now beginning to understand why Li Yuan had been keeping his distance from her lately... He might be a germaphobe...

Liang Jingjing looked at the invitation in her hand, and then her gaze fell upon the bank card in Qi Siyu’s. The gold-embossed card was different from their salary cards.

"Siyu, is this a new bank card?"

Hearing her friend’s question, Qi Siyu felt a pang of guilt. She was about to claim she’d gotten the card herself but worried that lying would damage their relationship if Liang Jingjing found out later.

Just as she was trying to figure out how to answer, she heard Liang Jingjing ask teasingly, "Siyu, don’t tell me this bank card is also from Li Yuan?"

Qi Siyu finally decided there was no point in hiding it. It wasn’t worth ruining their long friendship over something like this.

"Yes, he sent it with the invitations. I only found it after he left."

"Li Yuan is quite the sweetheart, isn’t he?" Liang Jingjing mused, clicking her tongue in admiration. "Sending invitations and a bank card."

"Siyu, you’ve been worrying for nothing these past few days. I told you, Li Yuan isn’t the kind of scumbag who’d pull up his pants and pretend he doesn’t know you."

Qi Siyu smiled sweetly, offering no reply.

"Siyu, let me see that bank card."

"Here."

Liang Jingjing took the bank card from Qi Siyu’s hand.

After examining it, she asked curiously, "Siyu, how much money is on this card?"

Qi Siyu shook her head. "I don’t know."

"You didn’t ask, and Li Yuan didn’t say?" Liang Jingjing exclaimed in surprise.

Qi Siyu nodded. "Mhmm."

After a pause, Qi Siyu explained, "I originally didn’t want it. He hid it inside the invitations. When I called him, he said that if I didn’t take it, it would mean I don’t love him, and I could just throw it in the trash."
