Challenging authority!

Authority stood for power and prestige. If it were that easy to challenge, it would not be called authority.

“I never intended to challenge the rules. It is just that sometimes, things develop beyond my expectations,” Ning Shu said with some helplessness.

Ning Shu’s biggest mistake in this matter was possessing the ordinance imprint, especially the ever-changing water ordinance.

This exact thing had invited disaster. There would always be people who felt she was unworthy of possessing it, even if the ordinance had chosen her.

Everything that happened in the City of Water was because of the water ordinance. Wealth moved people’s hearts and power intoxicated them. The person who possessed this ordinance imprint would come to possess both wealth and power.

Ning Shu touched her imprint. When she rested her hand on it, she felt a refreshing coolness. This thing was both a blessing and a curse.

Naturally, Ning Shu would not hand it over to anyone on a silver platter. Furthermore, if the ordinance imprint were to separate from her, it would mean she was about to dissipate.

This thing would only fall off if she died. Anyone coming to strip her of her ordinance imprint was coming for her life.

Once her own world was successfully constructed and she gained the right to speak, she would slowly settle these grudges.

“Ning Shu, keep a low profile when you need to. Making a fortune in silence is the true way to go,” Mei Ziqing warned her. “Keep some trump cards in your hand, and don’t foolishly tell others everything.”

“I know,” Ning Shu replied. The human heart was sinister, so she had to keep a few trump cards to herself.

Ning Shu initially wanted to go to various cities to find world origins. However, after what just happened, she needed to hole up and hide for a while. If she ran into the adjudicator and he insisted on killing her, what could she possibly do?

System 2333 saved her this time, but would it save her the next? Seeing its task-doer court death so actively, it would probably just watch coldly from the sidelines. At worst, it would just start over with someone else.

Once her world was successfully constructed, she would definitely float back and forth in front of him without any scruples.

Tai Shu was even more ruthless than Ning Shu had imagined. Even though Hong Yu was as beautiful as a flower and begged bitterly, he remained completely indifferent. Hong Yu even wanted to offer her body, but he still stayed unmoved. He still coldly and decisively obliterated Hong Yu.

That was why Ning Shu did not even bother pleading for mercy afterward. Begging was simply useless.

An ant was just an ant.

Once she constructed her world, if possible, Ning Shu wanted to mess him up. He might have been enforcing the law impartially, but that did not stop Ning Shu from loathing him.

Although 2333 said the chances of killing him were practically in the negatives, as long as one was alive, nothing was impossible.

There really was nothing anyone could do against someone so impartial and ruthless. The Heavenly Dao was heartless, and he was pretty much exactly the same.

Ning Shu chatted with Mei Ziqing for a while longer before closing the chat system. Right now, she did not really want to do any tasks, nor could she stroll through the various cities to search for world origins.

Now, she had to avoid the adjudicator like the plague.

How depressing!

Ning Shu still had not adapted to the drastic fall from being a City Lord of an ordinance city to becoming a fugitive in the blink of an eye.

“Can I still do tasks?” Ning Shu asked 2333. “What if the adjudicator chases me into a task to kill me?”

“Why wouldn’t you be able to? Are we not a task system?” 2333 asked.

“I am afraid that man will hunt me down.” Ning Shu said.

“His failure to erase you was his own mistake. It has nothing to do with you, but that will not stop him from killing you if he runs into you,” 2333 said.

Ning Shu: …

“So you mean to say he will kill me if he sees me, but he won’t go out of his way to find me?” Ning Shu asked.

“That is pretty much it. Your current status falls under the category of ‘can be killed, but does not have to be hunted down.’ However, if you go do tasks, out of billions of planes, the chances of you two running into each other are incredibly small,” 2333 said, comforting the cowardly Ning Shu.

Ning Shu asked, “May I know what method you used to rescue me?”

“Oh, I used a bit of my power, plus 500,000 merit points. Those merit points were enough to wipe the slate clean for what you did in the City of Water.”

500,000 merit points?

Ning Shu hurriedly opened her attribute panel. Sure enough, she found that she was missing 500,000 merit points. The tax revenue she had collected previously was now practically all gone.

How unexpected, how surprising, how thrilling.

Ning Shu did not say anything. Trading 500,000 merit points for her life was worth it. If she died, she would not be able to use a million points, let alone half a million. Merit points could always be saved up again, but without her life, she would have nothing.

Besides, she still had the entire City of Water providing her with an endless stream of tax revenue.

By the next time, she would have pretty much earned it all back.

Ning Shu decided to wait a little longer before taking on a task. Her legs were still trembling even now. She wanted to search for a weapon that could deal damage to the soul, much like Young Master Ronghua’s Soul-Striking Whip.

She also needed a suitable soul weapon. She had previously heard the silver-haired man say that when using soul attack abilities, one could shape their soul into any weapon to attack another soul.

Ning Shu calmed her mind and then mobilized her soul power. Her soul power formed a very simple dagger. However, since it was merely condensed from soul power, the dagger did not possess much lethality.

Only by continuously compressing her soul power could she give it some offensive capability.

Ning Shu experimented for a while until both her mental strength and soul power became very exhausted. The sword she had just formed reverted into soul power and fused back into her soul.

This feeling was similar to cultivating Unsurpassable Martial Arts. Practice made perfect. She just had to practice, practice, and practice some more.

After resting for a while to continue practicing later, Ning Shu opened the system exchange marketplace to see if there were any hypnosis skills to learn. Although hypnosis could not split mountains or move rocks, it was an incredibly useful tool to deal with people who had weak mental strength.

Ning Shu flipped through the items page by page and finally found a book on learning hypnosis. Moreover, it was not a skill. If it were a skill, she would be able to use it the moment she bought it. But since it was a book, she had to learn it herself.

Ning Shu spent a few energy points to buy the hypnosis book. First, she eagerly devoured the book’s contents and memorized it in her brain. She did not worry about how to use it yet. She just memorized it first so she could slowly learn it later, and even gradually put it into practice during her tasks.

After buying the book on hypnotism, Ning Shu searched again to see if there were any items that could resist the power of erasure. If she was truly unlucky and ended up running into the adjudicator, it might just allow her to block a hit and give herself a chance to escape.

However, she rummaged around for a while and found nothing. She felt that these people were too treacherous. To think there were no such items at all! Could it be that they thought it would be too much effort during an obliteration, so they simply did not offer such items?

This lady has plenty of money! Bring them out and sell them to me, you wretches!

Ning Shu felt that the items in the system exchange marketplace were exorbitantly expensive. Furthermore, they were all things that looked extremely badass and dazzling but were actually completely useless.

Who knew who created the system exchange marketplace? They had such a black heart. Who knew how many soft, cute, kind, and rookie task-takers they had scammed, especially those who still believed in true love and genuine affection in this world.
