Chapter 1536 - 1525: Avenging My Sister
Chapter 1536: Chapter 1525: Avenging My Sister
Li Zihui might have had some feelings for Zhan Hui initially, otherwise, she wouldn’t have married him when he had nothing. But over the years, Li Zihui has long been tired of him. Zhan Hui does have some talent, but not remarkably so. If it weren’t for the extensive publicity and support from the Li family, Zhan Hui’s art exhibitions couldn’t even get off the ground.
Moreover, due to his lack of significant talent, his art exhibitions haven’t continued over the years. Zhan Hui began working at the Li Group and even took a position as general manager of an overseas branch in recent years. However, though he was nominally the decision-maker, the real authority remained Li Zihui.
Perhaps love is gradually worn down this way. Zhan Hui wanted a divorce and demanded a division of assets, to which Li Zihui retaliated unhesitatingly by immediately canceling his credit cards and hiring a very capable lawyer.
"Miss Li, asking Mr. Zhan to walk away empty-handed is somewhat improbable. After all, you two have been married for many years, and there are quite a few joint assets. Besides, Mr. Zhan hasn’t committed any fundamental faults, so his request for asset division is reasonable." The lawyer analyzed rationally.
"I have a prenuptial asset certification here. If we have to divide assets, these won’t be divided, right?"
"As long as Miss Li’s prenuptial asset certification is legal and valid, your prenuptial assets indeed do not need to be divided. From the information you provided, I noticed that it has been Mr. Zhan working all these years, Miss Li, you haven’t really needed to contribute much."
"He’s gotten off easy," Li Zihui said viciously. Even though it seems that Zhan Hui has been working all along, wasn’t all his income given by the Li family?
"And this compensation?"
The lawyer adjusted his glasses and said, "Miss Li, you don’t need to worry about this. Our country’s marriage law is equal for both men and women. If neither party commits fundamental errors, judges generally don’t support one party requesting compensation."
Hearing this, Li Zihui’s heart skipped a beat. Could Zhan Hui, demanding compensation with such confidence, have discovered something?
The son wasn’t Zhan Hui’s; this was something Li Zihui discovered later. After marrying Zhan Hui, he wasn’t as good as she imagined. That year, she got drunk and ran into her ex-boyfriend. In a moment of impulse, she had relations with him, and unexpectedly, that one time led to pregnancy.
Her ex-boyfriend’s eyes resembled Zhan Hui’s somewhat, and the son was born with those kinds of eyes too. Plus, she had always hidden the son’s medical report very well, so how could Zhan Hui possibly find out? Didn’t he always say the son looked a lot like him?
However, it wasn’t until they went to court that Li Zihui realized she was being naive. Zhan Hui’s lawyer, after stating his client’s demands to the judge, not only produced the DNA test result between him and Zhan Enci but also had evidence of her domestic abuse and threatening recordings.
She listened blankly as the recording played her voice, telling Zhan Hui not to pursue Li Zhihua’s murder case, leaving her mind in a haze.
Coming to her senses, she glared at him fiercely. So it turns out he had been provoking her these past days for this. He had already prepared for the divorce, just waiting for her to fall into the trap.
Li Zihui’s lawyer was caught off guard, never expecting Zhan’s lawyer to have such evidence. Had he known his client was hiding so much, he certainly would not have taken the case.
Due to the severity of the matter, the judge did not immediately sentence but instead asked whether the parties wished to mediate. Regardless of how much Li Zihui implied, Zhan Hui insisted on proceeding, and so the judge set another trial date a month later, hence allowing time for organizing the evidence and giving both parties a chance to negotiate.
Zhan Hui and Li Zihui walked out of the courthouse together. Li Zihui angrily confronted him, asking, "You planned all this from the start, didn’t you? A useless man still dares to conspire for my assets. Zhan Hui, do you think you will survive to enjoy them?"
Zhan Hui smiled slightly, taking out a recorder. "I just recorded our conversation. If anything happens to me, the police will undoubtedly come looking for you first."
"You..." Li Zihui was at a loss for words, her eyes filled with animosity as she gazed at him.
"Also, I’m going to report right now. Your niece killed my daughter, and back then, you coerced me into not pursuing the matter. Now it’s time for you all to pay the price." Zhan Hui said coldly.
"Dare you!" Li Zihui fumed. This time, Zhan Hui had indeed struck a nerve.
"Why wouldn’t I dare? Doesn’t your Li family always look down on my mother? Let’s see what you’ll do this time."
"Isn’t it all about the money? I’ll give you money. Is thirty million enough?" Li Zihui hastily blocked him, offering an exceedingly high amount.
Zhan Hui looked at her with disdain. "Do you think by not chasing after your niece’s murder, things will be over? Li Zihui, I’m well aware of your family’s behavior. Is thirty million a lot? I insist you learn a lesson."
"Fifty million," Li Zihui countered again with an amount.
Zhan Hui was shamefully tempted. He now regretted the talk he had with Ye Qiu, who said if he exposed the Li family’s bullying, he would get more compensation. At that time, his mind seemed bewitched by her words, and he handed over the recordings and evidence to the lawyer, who submitted them to the judge earlier.
If only he had known the Li family would offer so much money, he wouldn’t have used it as evidence. Just proving the son wasn’t his would suffice.
But now, it’s too late for regrets. He can only blame himself for not thinking it through back then.
"It’s useless," Zhan Hui looked at Li Zihui with regret, "the evidence has been presented to the judge. This is no longer something I can choose not to pursue."
Li Zihui returned home in panic, thinking of the lawyer’s statement that her divorce case had little chance of winning and the evidence Zhan Hui submitted. She wasn’t sure how she would face her elder brother and sister-in-law. If Li Zhihua got arrested, would she become the family’s sinner?
She now deeply regretted why she ever fancied someone as useless as Zhan Hui. He remarried, yes, but he was still ambitious despite having no abilities, and now she was utterly helpless against him.
She previously hired a private investigator to look into Zhan Hui’s private assets over the years. Though they found some clues, they had no evidence, meaning he could claim her money in the divorce, but she couldn’t sue him for asset transfers.
Ha, all these years she thought the other party was a fool. Never did she expect Zhan Hui to turn the tables on her. How ironic!
