Chapter 1642: Chapter 1631: The Villain’s Foster Mother
Zhong Hai brought five bowls of porridge to the film crew. Chen Huawen had just finished filming, and from a distance, he could already smell the aroma. He hadn’t eaten anything since they started filming from the afternoon until evening, and by now, he was really hungry.
"Is it the same porridge from this morning?"
"Yes, but I bought different flavors this time and also got one for the director and the producer." Zhong Hai replied with a simple smile.
"Nice, you have an eye for things." Sister Hong patted his shoulder, and then couldn’t resist the meat porridge.
Chen Huawen picked up the only bowl of vegetable porridge, thought for a moment, and said, "Go and see how much porridge is left at the stall, I’ll buy it all and let everyone in the crew enjoy a midnight snack."
Sister Hong laughed heartily: "That’s a great idea, plus, the porridge tastes good, there’s no worry about it not being presentable."
Zhong Hai hardly had time to eat his own bowl before he hurried out, fearing that if he went later, the porridge would be sold out.
However, he was relatively lucky today, or perhaps nobody knew she would set up the stall at night. Ye Qiu’s stall still had four large barrels of porridge, and since the seafood porridge needed to be cooked fresh, Zhong Hai simply brought Ye Qiu and her stall into the film city.
Sister Hong greeted everyone as they came out: "Huawen is treating everyone to a midnight snack, if you have time, come and get a bowl."
Smelling the aroma of the porridge, everyone in the crew smiled. Chen Huawen was a film emperor, yet he was down-to-earth, and now his gesture of treating everyone brought him another wave of goodwill in the crew.
The director casually waved his hand and said, "We’re just wrapping up, everyone have your midnight snack then head home."
The director was an unassuming Big Beard who was also a foodie. Everyone in the circle knew that when Director Duan was filming, he always had pine nuts and dried plums at hand. Now, having informed everyone that filming was done, he sniffed the air and came over.
"Give me a bowl of meat porridge first."
"Alright." Ye Qiu filled a disposable bowl to the brim and smiled, "Everyone says my side dishes are good, help yourself."
"Sure." Director Duan saw the brightly-colored side dishes and couldn’t resist scooping two big spoonfuls.
After taking a sip of the hot porridge, Director Duan loudly exclaimed "Good."
"This porridge is really well-cooked, sis, your skills are amazing."
Being called ’sis,’ Ye Qiu wasn’t upset; she smiled as she served the next person: "Years of practice, thanks to everyone’s kindness. I set up my stall outside, you can come buy both in the morning and evening."
"Alright, I’ll definitely help your business more in the future."
Director Duan wasn’t just talking; he genuinely thought the porridge was good, and planned to eat it more often.
Seeing Director Duan’s praise, the leading actress Xu Yin found it hard to resist. Usually, she wouldn’t eat at night to maintain her figure, but today, the porridge aroma kept wafting into her nose, making it hard for her to resist.
"If you really want to eat, why not have a bit? I see there’s still vegetable porridge." Xu Yin’s agent said.
Ye Qiu turned her head and smiled, saying, "I can add more vegetables for you, eating more vegetables won’t make you gain weight."
Xu Yin finally succumbed, licking her lips and said, "Okay, just half a bowl."
Chen Huawen, who had a good relationship with Xu Yin, held his bowl of vegetable porridge and said, "You’ll regret not drinking this porridge, even this vegetable porridge is very delicious."
Director Duan came over and asked, "Where did you find such a porridge stall? How come I didn’t know before?"
"I heard this was the first day setting up in the morning, and the assistant bought me a bowl back, so I thought everyone should try it. Hot porridge is comforting in the cold winter."
"It really is comforting." Director Duan sighed, "A bowl of porridge down, and I feel like I can keep filming."
"Better not, please spare us!" Chen Huawen laughed, "Even a landlord wouldn’t exploit people like this."
Director Duan rolled his eyes at him: "Look at you, I’m just joking, right? Just a bowl of porridge, how can it be so delicious?"
"If there were no skills, how could you set up a stall?"
"I can’t help it, the seafood porridge looks good too, I want another bowl."
Chen Huawen looked at his empty bowl, hesitated for a moment, and also went to get more seafood porridge. He thought that seafood porridge wasn’t greasy, so it shouldn’t make him gain weight, right?
Xu Yin, with the same thought, found her half bowl seriously good. After quickly finishing it, the hot porridge had just settled in her stomach and she felt even hungrier. Seeing her agent eating and not paying attention to her, she courageously went to get more seafood porridge too. However, she was more restrained than her male co-star, sticking to half a bowl, though adding quite a bit of shrimp and fish.
The freshly cooked seafood porridge had a different charm, and today everyone in the crew ate happily, feeling like they hadn’t had enough even though the pots of porridge were empty.
Seeing everyone with lingering enjoyment, Ye Qiu smiled broadly: "There’ll be more tomorrow, hope you all support my business."
"Definitely, definitely, sis, your skills are truly amazing."
"Yes, this is my first time tasting such fragrant porridge."
"The fresh ingredients and careful cooking make it good." Ye Qiu said modestly.
Director Duan didn’t quite agree; had he not been to many fine hotels and private restaurants? Could those places use inferior ingredients? Didn’t those star-level chefs cook with care? But he just felt that those places’ porridge didn’t match the stall’s, perhaps this is what people meant by hidden masters.
"Sis, are your cooking skills good too?" Director Duan asked, thinking that porridge was great, but he couldn’t drink porridge every day. He needed some good food as he stayed in town filming for a while.
Chen Huawen laughed beside him, "You thought like me, sis, can we order meals from you tomorrow? Something lighter, not too oily."
Director Duan chimed in, "I don’t mind getting fat; I want my food with more oil."
"Sure, I’m confident in my cooking skills, but the dishes cost a lot more than porridge. How about I try making a few dishes tomorrow to bring over?"
Director Duan didn’t mind: "As long as it’s delicious, you won’t be underpaid."
"I’ll bring it tomorrow noon; is there anything specific you’d like to eat?"
Director Duan and Chen Huawen couldn’t decide right away, so they said, "You decide for us, we’re not picky."
It’s great to do business with easygoing people; both sides reached an agreement happily. After finishing the porridge, Ye Qiu packed up the stall, and Chen Huawen’s assistant Zhong Hai settled the bill. Everyone was happy with the meal, so Chen Huawen instructed to pay an extra thousand compared to the previous arrangement.
Ye Qiu accepted without objection, happily went home, and in her room, Ye Chuqing, who was studying, heard Ye Qiu bustling around and felt a wave of heartache. Her mom worked so late to earn money for her and the family, so she needed to strive harder in her studies to live up to her mom’s hard work.
