Chapter 66: Ch 66: First Demon Appearance

Strong but soft hands caught Aiden just as he was about to collapse, and he instantly noticed who was holding him.

Aiden’s hands tightened around Goddess Apophis’s sleeves, and he made a bitter face at the fact that she was keeping him upright.

No, the actual reason he was frowning and felt bitter was because she had taken her human form in front of another person.

Aiden looked back at Lumi’s shocked look, but she quickly diverted her eyes away from Goddess Apophis’s face, which was correct. Only Aiden was allowed to look at her and get her help.

He wanted to tell the goddess that he was fine and that he could walk, but the system told him otherwise.

[Your body has run out of power to sustain you. Resonance will be canceled. Please increase your body’s divinity in order to maintain resonance for longer times and better overall post-health.]

[Note: The way to increase divine power is to gain more followers.]

’Darn it! So that darn note about gaining followers was actually helpful? I guess I cannot complain about it anymore. Still, it would be better if my followers became Goddess Apophis’s followers as well.’

That would come later. For now, Aiden did his best to regain control of his body as soon as possible.

But Goddess Apophis tugged him back to her side with a frown.

"Don’t overdo it. I understand that you want to prove yourself, but let’s make sure you don’t injure yourself beyond repair."

She reminded Aiden, and he had no choice but to nod to show that he agreed with her.

There was a peaceful silence where Aiden took out some medicine from the system and took it. After a few minutes, he started to feel the effects and recovered.

Once he could stand on his feet, his goddess finally went back to her snake form and rested on his shoulder.

As for Lumi...she kept her head down and was soon allowed to look back up again.

"Now that we have tested Lumi’s powers, we should head back. Some rest will do you good-"

Aiden was concentrating on his Goddess’s words when a sudden feeling made him look back at the arena. He swore he heard a tearing noise from somewhere.

Lumi’s tense eyes told him that he was not the only one who heard that noise.

"Is there...a demon rift appearing?"

She questioned with a surprised expression, but Aiden was not.

In a world that had gods, there had to be a force to act as a countermeasure. In this world, that force was known as demons.

They were considered the filth of this world and were formed from residual and overused power. And just as their names suggested, they feasted on this world to fill their hunger.

As a result, the more divinity a place had, the more chances there were of demons appearing.

So far, this village had not seen any such demons because there was not enough divinity present. But the presence of a demon indicated that his goddess finally had enough strength to be noticed.

It was a good and bad thing at the same time.

’Hmm, I wonder if I can find weapons in the system that will work against these demons?’

[Such weapons are up for purchase. However, since they rely on divine power, buying too many is not advisable.]

This was a drawback that made sense. Still, the fact that there were such weapons available for use would greatly lower the number of casualties.

Also, did these weapons work on other gods?

’Seriously? They can even hurt gods...? Then again, the system gave me a gun that could be used to shoot minor gods, so I guess this is something it just has. Just what is this thing anyway?’

Aiden felt like he should be more concerned about this situation than he currently was.

"Oh! The tearing noise is coming from the center of the clearing. Should we do something about it?"

Lumi asked as she watched the tear getting bigger and bigger.

Aiden looked at the tear as well, but since his goddess was relaxed, he chose not to panic either.

Did his goddess already know that they were not in danger? That made sense. After all, she was a goddess, so she would know more about this.

But the fact she had still kept Lumi here meant that she was trying to test her...

"Lumi, I think this is your test. Goddess Apophis likely wants to see how you will do against a demon of this caliber. Don’t worry, we are here to protect you if it looks like you are about to lose."

Aiden told her, and Lumi nodded and stood up.

"If this is Goddess Apophis’s wish, then I will do my best to fulfill it. I am also itching to see how much power I can use. I could not go all out during our match after all."

Aiden knew that it was not a personal jab, but he still felt a little irked by her words.

Lumi quickly stood up and watched the rift open. A 10-foot-long demon exited and immediately noticed Lumi.

She wasted no time in conjuring jellyfish-shaped bombs around the monster and then detonating them around the monster.

It cried out before getting angry and rushing at Lumi. But as the system had already determined, this monster was no threat.

Lumi was easily able to tear it apart using her own power.

"Well, it seems there will truly be no problem with leaving the safety of this village with you for now."

Aiden commented as he watched Lumi use her power. She was getting better with each use, and with the cameras assisting her, she would be able to get to the root of the problem before it could grow stronger.

Now, he could leave this village with a semi-peaceful mind.
