Chapter 93: Ch 92: Demon Attack

’It’s weird. It’s been more than two hours and Aiden is still not back. Should I wake Goddess Apophis and tell her what’s happening?’

Caelion was getting worried now. He looked outside where the sun was starting to set, and with a third missing person case, he did not even know what to do anymore.

He had forgotten to tell Aiden that both Sasha and Lumi had not been seen since the morning, but he had panicked amidst the chaos of all that was happening.

In the end, he waited 10 more minutes before he realized that he needed to act fast. There was no point in delaying this news anymore.

Caelion knocked at the goddess’s door, waiting for her to give him entry before he trespassed on her chambers.

He waited a whole minute before he heard the ruffling sound that told him that Goddess Apophis was awake and ready to hear him out.

"What do you want to tell me?"

The goddess asked in a bored voice, and Caelion took a deep breath before he spoke.

"Goddess Apophis, I am afraid that Priest Aiden is missing along with Priestess Lumi and Sasha. He went to check out a demon outbreak in the south a few hours ago and has yet to return—"

A loud noise made Caelion flinch, and the doors of Goddess Apophis’s chambers flew open within seconds.

Caelion had a few seconds to defend himself before his neck was being grabbed by the goddess.

"What do you mean Aiden is missing? When did he leave the temple? And why? I specifically told him not to leave this temple at all costs."

Goddess Apophis did not sound happy. Her sour mood was making the whole temple shake badly to the point where it felt like it would collapse.

And usually Caelion won’t bother involving himself with Goddess Apophis’s anger, but this time it felt different.

"Goddess Apophis, please calm down. I know that the situation seems dire, but your anger will make this temple collapse. Priest Aiden spent a lot of effort to bring it to life, and he will be sad to see it go—"

"Good! Then that fool should come back and tell that to me himself."

Goddess Apophis let out a scoff, but she was clearly affected by Caelion’s words about Aiden because she stopped using her powers immediately.

The shaking stopped, but Caelion was sure that the after-effect of what happened was felt everywhere in this territory.

’Those poor people have no idea what is happening, and I do feel sorry for them. But I also feel satisfied at the fact that his benefactor would be getting the help that he needed.’

"I will be looking for Aiden now, so do not disturb me. I assume you will be able to take care of the situation while I am not here."

Goddess Apophis was willing to leave things to Caelion, and he nodded to assure her he would not disappoint her.

After all, this was all for Aiden, and Caelion would do anything as long as it was to help his benefactor out.

But the second Goddess Apophis returned to her seclusion, Caelion began to sense the barrier drop in places where it was not supposed to. It was clear that something was going on here, and that something was not good.

Someone was interfering with the barriers from the inside.

Caelion quickly headed toward the village where people had gathered to look for Lumi. But the priestess was nowhere to be seen.

"Priest Caelion, what do we do? Those demons..."

People were panicking, and it was time to make a decision. So Caelion decided to step forward, and he raised his fist in the air with determination.

"Everyone, it’s time for us to show what we are made of. We are all Goddess Apophis’s and Priest Aiden’s subjects, so let’s face these demons and drive them out."

Caelion’s words made people hesitate, but they slowly began to show enthusiasm.

"Let’s go!"

That was where everyone started to attack the demons, and despite the injuries, the villagers refused to give in.

But still, there were too many monsters, and Caelion felt like he was not enough.

’I-I cannot give up here. I need to protect them all... for Priest Aiden’s sake.’

His determination started boiling, and Caelion felt something surging inside him.

[New power unlocked. Congratulations]

A message appeared in the air, but no one noticed, not even Caelion.

But what he did notice was the sudden increase in his speed and strength. He was able to tear these monsters apart with ease.

’Ugh, what is going on here? Why does my body feel so heavy?’

Lumi tried to push herself up, only to find that someone was covering her. That small body felt weightless and heavy at the same time, causing Lumi to blink and look up.

But the second she did, she regretted it because she saw Sasha’s bloody face.

"P-Priestess Lumi... are you... alright? I am... so glad..."

Sasha spoke softly before she collapsed right on top of Lumi’s body. Beyond her back were hordes of demons trying to push past the barrier the half-phoenix had put up. But they were unable to get past until she fell unconscious.

"H-Hey, Sasha... are you alright? S-Sasha..."

Lumi hesitated to touch the young child, but she felt helpless, and the fear of losing a young life covered her senses.

"N-No! I refuse to allow this. I... this won’t happen..." ℯ

Her mind felt like a mess, and everything felt too heavy. She wanted to get rid of it all and protect it at the same time.

The two feelings conflicted inside her, causing her jellyfish to become even more destructive. One second, they were all calm, and the next they were moving toward the demons with unseen speed.

They started exploding one after another, causing the demons to die faster and faster. But it was an uncontrolled mess that Lumi could not control.

All she could do was take down anything in front of her, whether it was a friend or a foe. And she continued to do this until all the demons were eradicated, after which she collapsed.

And this was how she was found by Caelion later and brought back for treatment.
