Chapter 99: Ch 98: Goddess Apophis is here

The demons were cleared out, and Aiden let out a sigh. He was about to walk toward the barrier when he heard the air screeching once more.

The villagers he was walking toward let out a gasp of terror as they looked behind him with wide eyes, and Aiden turned around in time to notice a massive claw heading toward his head.

He dodged it at the last second, but that claw grasped Goddess Paphelia’s barrier, smashing it in an instant.

But it was not done. It came after Aiden, and he had to focus on getting it away from the barrier.

’Darn it! I cannot be reckless anymore and miss my shots. It will be a disaster if I hit some innocent civilians.’

So the only option Aiden was left with was to somehow find a way to take down this demon using close-ranged combat. He also needed to borrow power from his goddess for this.

It should have been an easy task, but when he tried to take the power, he was not able to. For some reason, his goddess refused to respond to him.

’Darn it! Why is Goddess Apophis not responding to me? Did something happen to her? I need to head back right now and check on her.’

His goddess’s lack of reaction disturbed Aiden more than fighting this demon did. So he did not notice when the demon got too close to him and went for his head.

Aiden jumped back at the last second, the hand missing him by an inch before the demon was suddenly slammed into.

A graceful body landed on top of the demon, pressing its face deeper into the ground.

"You have some nerve going after my man, and I commend you for it. But unfortunately, I have no mercy for you in my heart. So you can rot in hell."

Goddess Apophis was here for real, and she crushed the demon.

Aiden felt relieved to see her, but then she turned her eyes toward him, and Aiden froze in shock. His instincts told him that he was in danger and he needed to be much more careful when dealing with her.

The goddess jumped down from the crushed body she was standing on and lightly walked toward him. She reached her hand toward Aiden, and he tried his best not to flinch.

But it was hard not to when he saw the look in his Goddess’s face.

"Aiden, you do realize that I am angry at you, right? I specifically told you not to go out of my temple. And then I decided to wait a few days for you to come back as well. But it was all useless in the end, right?"

Goddess Apophis sighed in disappointment, which made Aiden flinch even harder. He knew that he had messed up, but he did not know what he could do about it.

After all, he did not exactly regret what happened here...

"What are you thinking about? Would you care to share your thoughts with me?"

Goddess Apophis asked in a calm voice with a smile on her face. But Aiden had a feeling that he should not tell his goddess the truth.

He needed to lie at all costs here.

"I...was trying to find a way to get back to you. I promise you, Goddess Apophis. You know that I would never lie to you-"

"I know that you won’t ever lie to me. But that does not mean you will always tell me the truth either, Aiden. Do you think I am a fool who won’t know what you are up to?"

Goddess Apophis asked with a smile, but her left eye twitched for a second, indicating that she was not in the mood to play around.

Aiden had a sudden feeling that his goddess knew exactly what he had been up to.

And why won’t she? After all, she felt it directly if her follower count increased.

"Goddess Apophis, I...this was all meant for you...?"

Aiden was a strong and confident person, but he felt like he could not speak when he stood in front of his angry goddess.

He could not even look at her properly, which made his Goddess’s eyes twitch.

"Aiden..."

Her voice was still soft and affectionate, but Aiden felt himself flinching at her tone.

"I...you know it’s not like that, right, Goddess Apophis? I will never abandon you-"

"But I did not say anything yet. Besides, you are not the one I want to take my anger out on. There is someone else I am angrier at."

Goddess Apophis was smiling, but it was not a good smile for her to have. Aiden had a feeling Goddess Paphelia was done.

And yet, he knew that he could not say a word to defend the other goddess.

"Show me around, Aiden. I want to have a talk with Goddess Paphelia as well. Let me see the face of the one who dared to covet what is mine."

Aiden nodded, but he also felt like he should inform Goddess Apophis that Paphelia had lost everything already.

But it was pretty evident from the state of the village they were in.

People were looking at Aiden and his goddess with awe-filled eyes, and their worshipping was clearly seen on their faces.

Right now, this village belonged to Goddess Apophis...or rather, to Aiden.

Aiden could already imagine how this conversation was going to go, and he was not looking forward to it.

Goddess Apophis walked beside him with a calm expression, but Aiden could feel the pressure coming from her.

He decided that it was better to keep quiet for now.

After all, he did not want to accidentally make his goddess even angrier.

As they walked through the village, more and more people noticed Goddess Apophis. Some immediately bowed their heads, while others simply stared at her with admiration.

Aiden glanced at his goddess and sighed inwardly.

’Looks like I really did bring the village to her.’
