Raising Yanderes to save the world
Chapter 162: Ch 161: Please do us this Favor
There were a lot of determined people in the world, but Kael had never met someone like Lady Marsha Noelle.
Usually, nobles were arrogant, and their pride did not allow them to approach someone who had insulted them again. Rather, many houses held long-lasting grudges over a small slight committed generations ago.
So, seeing Lady Marsha get rejected and keep coming back was a sight Kael did not expect to see every day. Even he was starting to feel bad about rejecting her at this point.
"Grand Master, today’s gift is a tea set crafted by one of the best craftsmen in the Northern Empire. The delicate detail work on this indicates-"
Lady Marsha spoke, not showing a hint of displeasure on her face despite being rejected again and again.
Rather, she looked even more determined every time she came back to Kael.
Now he was beginning to feel curious as well.
Just what was it that brought such a strong-willed individual back to ask for his help again and again? Surely someone else could help her with this.
Kael knew that it was not a good sign when he became interested in something. The more curious he got, the more he would want to get tangled up in it. And it would ultimately lead to him meddling in things he had no business meddling in.
But Lady Marsha had a way of getting under his skin.
Even today, she was speaking cheerfully, but her energy levels looked low. Her eyes had dark circles beneath them, and her complexion looked sickly. And yet, despite this, she had still decided to visit Kael at her usual time.
"Lady Marsha, I respect your determination, but isn’t it time for you to head to a doctor rather than come to visit me? You look like you are sick."
A cough escaped Lady Marsha’s throat as soon as Kael finished speaking. He looked at her with a knowing expression, causing Lady Marsha to look away.
She looked guilty for making him worry, but she still did not leave.
"My Lord, I am glad that you are worried about me. That means you are interested in what I have to say. How can I pass up such a perfect opportunity? Please, don’t pay attention to my health and hear my proposal out."
She pushed the agenda of getting Kael to help her once more. But no matter how many times he heard Marsha out, he could not understand why she wanted him to save her brother.
Surely there were better candidates for this job.
"Lady Marsha, let me be frank with you today. The reason I am refusing to help you is because you are not being clear about your request. Why are you so fixated on getting me to help you instead of someone else? There must be better candidates out there, right-"
"There are no better candidates out there. Everyone else will kill my brother as soon as they find him. You are my only hope of saving him."
Lady Marsha yelled, her voice growing louder and louder before she caught herself. Her cheeks suddenly flushed red, making her face look even sicker.
But her outburst had told Kael one important fact—this was about more than simply saving her brother.
The girl in front of Kael had visited him more than a few times, and she had tried to make him interested in her situation every time she had come here. But he had not felt curious about it until her outburst just now.
Kael knew it was foolish of him to stick his head into this situation when he did not even have a solid footing of his own.
But unfortunately, the curse known as curiosity had been triggered within him, and he wanted to know more about the situation.
"Lady Marsha, tell me the truth now, and I might agree to help you. From here on, what happens will depend on you."
Kael told her, and she took a deep breath before nodding.
"I...am sorry! I should have told you the truth about what was happening. Actually, my brother is not missing. He is being kept in the dungeons by my father. One day, he woke up and suddenly lost his mind. He used to be a wise ruler, but now he keeps talking nonsense about ’world destruction’ and ’knowing the future’ and things like that. We...we don’t know what to do with him."
Lady Marsha looked distressed and worried. Her sudden confession somehow seemed to have aged her by a few years, and all the cheerfulness had drained from her body.
But for Kael, her words were like an arrow striking its target.
As someone in his situation, how could he not feel curious to know more about this?
"I am sure you want nothing to do with me now that you know the truth. I will take my leave now and find someone else to help me. I won’t disturb Grand Master Kael again. Please excuse me-"
Lady Marsha stood up gracefully and headed toward the door. She tried to open it, only to find that she could not.
Kael waved his hand, and a chair knocked Lady Marsha back into it before dragging her to sit in front of him once more.
"Your brother sounds like he’s fun to be around. You should have started by telling me that. If you had, we wouldn’t have had to drag this situation out for a whole week. Now, tell me more about your brother’s situation."
Kael asked, and Lady Marsha looked surprised and worried at the same time. But she also felt hopeful, suddenly feeling like she finally had a chance to help her brother.
"Grand Master Kael, does that mean-"
"It still depends on the situation for now. But your brother’s condition is something I am curious about. Can you tell me more about it?"
Kael asked, and Lady Marsha looked surprised by his question. But her expression bloomed into a smile, and she nodded.
"Of course. I can tell you all about it. So please, help us in return."
