Chapter 192: Ch 191: A Little Rebellion

Nathan’s eyes showed no emotion when he looked at Kael, but Kael could still sense the danger they held.

However, his younger brother was not foolish enough to make any sudden move to take his life either.

"Brother, please don’t misunderstand. I have no desire to take your life, nor do I want to cause you trouble. However, I cannot dismiss what I heard just now. Are you going to cause a rebellion?"

Although Nathan said that he had no desire to fight, his body language said something different. His hands were clenched into fists, showing that he was ready to attack Kael if it came to that.

"I see. Well, you’re lucky because I have no desire to take on any more responsibility than necessary. As for this offer...I would like to ask you to look the other way this time."

Kael kept his smile on his face as he asked Nathan for this favor.

His younger brother had a suspicious look on his face, but he decided to comply in the end.

"Alright. I am willing to trust you this time, but only because you have not given me a reason not to. But I am not like Emma and Adrian. I will not trust you just because we are ’family.’ So you better be on your guard around me."

Nathan warned him before he left the hall. But it took considerably longer for his presence to fade away.

Kael simply smiled as he watched his younger brother leave before his expression turned hard.

Sigh

"Kids are such a pain to deal with these days. I wonder how Seraphina and the others are doing. Knowing Leon, I am sure he has things handled just fine on his end."

At least, Kael hoped he did. But he had no way to get news of the outside world from inside this barrier. So he needed to arrange a way to receive information.

And he had a feeling Valary would prove useful in that regard.

The next two days passed without incident, but on the third day, Kael met Valary again. She and her father had come to meet Adrian regarding some important matter, but from the looks on their faces, it was clear that their request had been rejected.

Kael’s eyes met Valary’s as she exited his brother’s office, and she quickly walked over to him before wrapping her arms around one of his.

"Excuse me, Sir Kael, but can you help us persuade your elder brother? All we want is to propose something for the prosperity of this nation, but he keeps saying we are trying too hard and acting unnecessarily."

Valary tried to move even closer into Kael’s personal space, hoping to persuade him to speak in her favor. Her sad-looking eyes tried to draw Kael’s sympathy and make him take her side.

But Kael was not going to fall for her trick just because she was acting a little cute.

One look at Adrian’s face was enough to tell Kael that he needed to stay out of it. He was trying to think of a neutral response when his brother decided to take charge and gave him the perfect excuse.

"Miss Valary, this matter is final. I won’t change my mind regarding this, no matter who speaks to me about it. And if you keep dragging my family members into this matter, then I will make sure any future business you try to establish also fails."

Valary quickly let go of Kael’s arm and straightened herself. She tried not to show her nervousness, but Kael could see her hands shaking at the threat.

"Oh my! I never knew our master, Sir Adrian, knew how to joke like this. It must be Grand Master Kael’s influence. I knew he was going to bring out the best in our ruling family."

Valary tried to lighten the mood and flatter Kael at the same time, but her words fell on deaf ears.

Once she realized that she had messed up, Valary decided it was time to make her exit. She looked back at Kael for a moment and brushed her hand against his arm in a flirtatious manner before she fled.

Kael felt a shudder run down his back as he turned around to face his eldest brother.

"That snake...sigh. You better be careful around that woman as well, Kael. There is no telling what she might do to get what she wants."

Adrian warned Kael, but there was no need for that warning. Kael could always see through Valary’s desires, and now he knew why she wanted to help him overthrow his family.

It was because she wanted to manipulate him and make things easier for herself.

Unfortunately for her, Kael had no desire to let her—or anyone else—manipulate him into helping them.

"Are these people stressing you out, brother? If so, do you want me to help you?"

Kael asked, looking at Adrian’s impassive face.

The elder stopped rubbing his forehead and gave Kael a strange look.

"You want to help me? What are you planning? Rather—! Stop planning whatever you are thinking. I don’t want to see you get hurt."

Those words were firm, and Adrian meant them. He was telling Kael that it was not safe for him to deal with Valary and people like her.

But Kael knew he would not be left alone even if he did not go looking for trouble. So it was better to nip the problem in the bud while he had the chance.

"It’s alright, brother. I know what I am doing. I promise I won’t overdo it. But I have a feeling these worms won’t leave me alone even if I stay still. So it would be better to let me weed them out for you."

Kael proposed, and his eldest brother looked bothered for a full minute before finally deciding it would be alright to let Kael help.

Sigh

"Just this once. But if you get hurt, you will pull out immediately without asking any questions."
