Raising Yanderes to save the world
Chapter 240: Ch 239: Home Sweet Home
Lumi was just making an observation as she placed the vase back in its place. But her presence was enough to set Kristain off.
He was usually happy to see her, but right now, she was making his blood boil.
"What are you doing here now? Were you in the meeting? If you were, then why did you not help when I needed you?"
Kristain asked in a tense voice, but Lumi just chuckled as she looked at him.
"Did you need my help? Did you not instruct me not to interfere with the council? I did as you told me to, and now you are getting angry at me for it? Where is the justice in all of this?"
She asked with a sigh, which only made Kristain feel even angrier.
But he knew Lumi well, and he knew that she was doing all this to get a rise out of him. The second he showed her what she wanted, she would lose interest and leave.
"Tsk, what news do you have? Since you came to meet me and not simply to make fun of me, I have a feeling you really want to tell me something."
He asked with a sigh as he settled into his chair and folded his hands. He was ready to hear the chairwoman now, and Lumi did not disappoint.
"Well, unlike you, I have been extremely busy. I got the results from the last raid I organized, and now the elf tree’s burning has also given me enough data to finally begin my grand experiment."
Lumi sounded happy, and that meant her plan was working wonders.
She had not told Kristain what her plan was yet, but it was not hard to notice that it had something to do with corruption and its properties. After all, that was all Lumi ever studied.
"You are using too many words. This still does not explain what you are planning to do."
Kristain pointed out, and Lumi sighed before giving him a disappointed look.
"You need to be a little more romantic with these things. What will being so stiff get you?"
She asked, but Kristain’s unamused expression made her sigh and continue.
"Fine, I will tell you what my experiment is about. With the help of my magic and past experiments, I believe I have finally found a way to control this corruption."
Kristain dropped whatever he was holding at Lumi’s words. His head throbbed, and he felt like his world was shaking.
"What do you mean you have found a way to control corruption? Is that even possible?"
He asked in an uncertain voice. But Lumi already had answers to the questions he had not even asked yet.
"Through constant experimentation and observation, I have discovered a few things. But the most important discovery is that the corruption is developing a consciousness. Everything has a tendency to evolve, and corruption is no different. And now, I have found a way to communicate with it."
Lumi sounded certain, but Kristain was hesitant to believe her. As confident as Lumi sounded, her claim was also beyond anything within the realm of possibility.
"Look, I don’t mean to offend you, but it is a little difficult to believe your words. Have you, perhaps, thought about getting your head checked? I think you might be hallucinating—"
"You are free to think what you want. But that will not change the fact that the corruption has started to change and adapt. And it is also fixated on Grand Master Kael for some reason. It is converging toward him and is even asking for him."
"And what does that mean?"
"I don’t know yet. But I have a feeling I will find out soon. And once I do, we can make use of it to our advantage."
...
"Finally, home sweet home. Ugh, I missed this place so much."
Lyra confessed as she ran toward the huge mansion Kael owned. But what made it even funnier was the fact that she had spent the least amount of time here out of everyone who could have said that.
She was also the most excited as she slammed the door open and curled up on the sofa.
"Lyra, don’t you think you are getting far too comfortable here? What about your dignity as the demon queen?"
Iris asked, causing Lyra to look up and roll her eyes.
"Sorry, but I don’t have any. I work a little too hard as the demon queen, so I deserve to pamper myself once in a while. Don’t you agree, Kael?"
She asked, looking at Kael for confirmation. But he was too busy tidying the place up to reply to her.
"Tsk, oi! Pay attention to your pet...I mean, your friend here."
Lyra called out to Kael and even threw a pillow at the back of his head, which finally made Kael turn toward her with an apologetic look.
"Ah, sorry! Were you calling me? I was busy checking a few things...what did you need?"
He had apparently not heard a word Lyra had said, and that made her gasp in outrage.
"How preposterous! How can you ignore the demon queen’s words like this? Do you have a death wish...?"
"Lady Lyra, you won’t try anything with your mother, right? He’s just as busy as you are, so let’s not disturb him."
Elena blocked Lyra’s view with her body while smiling at her in that creepy way that made Lyra’s skin crawl.
The necromancer’s meaning was clear—do not mess with Kael, or else.
The demon queen, who had just been threatened, let out a sigh before shaking her head.
"I cannot believe I am being threatened here for no reason. Tsk, fine! I will listen to you all and give up for now. But don’t think this is the end. This is not an indication that I am backing down from asking questions."
Lyra started to spout nonsense, and this was the second everyone knew it was safe to leave her alone.
Kael also went back to what he had been working on, but unlike everyone else, he had a troubled expression, and for good reason.
