Chapter 325: Ch 324: Changed World - Part 2

The meeting Ken Russle had asked for was a regular one between himself and the party that had handled the last crisis. But the council had interfered, pushing themselves into the mix to try and gain control of the situation.

This was something that would have caused the involved party to become irritated usually, but they could not care less this time.

"I am sure you are all wondering why this meeting has been called today. I assure you that I did not want to call for this meeting either. However, the Dragon Queen asked me to call the people who handled the last crisis..."

Ken Russle stopped talking at this point, his eyes moving toward the party of four that had successfully defeated the trouble they had been facing.

But weirdly enough, he could not recall what the danger had been.

If even a Sword Master of his caliber had been affected by whatever had happened, then how could they just assume that the problem had been dealt with?

He was worried, but the noble council, who wanted to take control of the situation, was even more worried. They were worried to the point of spouting bullshit and distracting everyone.

"Saintess Seraphina, Hero Leon, you do realise that we sent a notice for everyone in your group to attend. So why are some people missing? Especially that necromancer? Where did she go?"

The council singled out Elena, who was still missing.

No, rather than missing, the correct thing to say would be that she had never been seen in the first place. It was as if she had disappeared into thin air.

"Cough."

"This is none of your business, old man. What Elena does is her own freedom. Who are you to demand her location?"

Demon Queen Lyra’s voice echoed across the room, her firmness pushing the council back. But the council was not easy to deal with either.

"And who are you to speak on her behalf? Her father or something? As far as we know, you should have nothing to do with Necromancer Elena beyond being party members. So stop causing trouble for us."

The council pointed this out, causing the Demon Queen to open her mouth once more. But she shut it immediately, realising that the council was right.

She did not have any deep connection to Elena that would allow her to defend her anymore.

’How weird. Why did I feel like my kid was being accused and I had to defend her? Ugh, my body acted on its own as well...’

Once upon a time, the Demon Queen had declared Elena her ward and placed her under her protection. But that past had only happened because of Kael’s involvement.

Now, without him and his presence, things were starting to return to how they were supposed to be.

Of course, no one knew this, so they continued to be confused about the situation.

"Councilman John, please stop bringing up our comrades and what they are doing. They participated in this fight only because I promised them that no questions would be asked about them once it was all over. And I intend to keep that promise."

Leon quickly defended the people, including Elena, who was no longer here and could no longer defend herself.

Everyone looked at the hero acting justly, but they all felt like something was wrong. Was this truly how Leon was supposed to be?

"Hero Leon..."

"Anyway, isn’t the important matter at hand not this? Sir Ken, what does the Dragon Queen have to say?"

Leon quickly changed the topic and turned toward the Sword Knight for more information.

Ken Russle, who had been using this time to gather his thoughts, snapped out of it and gave Leon a nod.

"You are right. We should get to the matter at hand. First, we should—"

"Why don’t you let me take over from here? I am sure it will be better if I explain why I am here."

A beautiful lady placed her hand on Ken Russle’s shoulder before she walked out of the shadows.

Everyone watched her appear from the shadows, and they instantly became alert to her presence.

But the beautiful, bewitching lady did not pay it any mind and simply walked toward the empty podium before raising her hand. A seat made of stone rose from the ground and allowed her to sit.

Sharp eyes looked at the council and the hero’s party alike before they closed. But the danger they possessed was etched into everyone’s mind all the same.

When they opened again, the Dragon Queen let out a chuckle and then raised her hand.

"Well, we shall start today’s session now. First, let me tell you all why I am here."

Everyone looked at the Dragon Queen with a sharp look of interest. She was beautiful enough to gather their attention, but her words were even more bewitching.

"First, I am sure everyone feels like there is something different about this world. That is because someone has used world magic to change it. But the question is—should we try and find out what happened? Or let it be? What do you all think?"

The answer was obvious.

Despite hearing this news, everyone instinctively knew that this world magic had been used for their own protection. And the fact that they could not remember it likely meant that it had changed something fundamental in this world.

Looking into this could be more trouble than it was worth.

No one knew this better than the Saintess and the hero. However, despite knowing this, Seraphina could not help the feeling of longing that crept into her mind.

A single look exchanged with Leon told her that he felt the same as well.

But the council was a different matter.

"Huh? If someone used world magic to save us from the disaster, then isn’t it obvious what we need to do? We need to make sure no one disturbs this world magic. Let’s make a vow not to interfere with it."

That was what the council decided unanimously.
