Chapter 369: The Solution - Part 1

“I say we make someone transform into Kael and attend the meeting instead of trying to gloss it over and pretend he is busy. That way, there would be fewer investigations.”

Officer Tyson suggested, and his suggestion made sense. But there was one problem…

“And who do you suggest tries to pretend to be Kael? We all need to be present there, and I doubt you want to pick up any random person to play Kael.”

Leon pointed out, and Officer Tyson cursed under his breath and looked around.

Iris and Leon were too important as enforcers not to have around. Seraphina was a public face for the guild as well, so she was out. And as for Lyra…

It was better not to consider her for the role.

‘Is there truly no one? There has to be at least one person who could pull this off…’

He looked around, and his eyes suddenly fell on Elena. And just like that, he had his candidate.

Elena usually kept out of the public eye, and it was hard for people to even notice her. Even those who did notice her did not know what kind of powers she had.

The only reason Tyson even knew she existed was because she had been present for this mess since the start and had chosen to reveal herself.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Do you want me to play Kael? That is not a good idea, and I won’t do it.”

Elena put her foot down and decided to decline before she could even receive an offer. But that only made Officer Tyson’s conviction that she should play Kael’s role even stronger.

She was sharp and knew how to keep out of trouble. She was the perfect scapegoat for this.

Now, he just needed to make her feel guilty enough to help him out…

“Miss Elena, I know that it might sound like too much, but Kael needs your help. He is currently lying unconscious, unable to get up, while his opponents are out there plotting his downfall. Do you truly want to see them win?”

He asked, causing Elena to scoff at his words.

“Do you expect me to fall for your provocations? I would rather destroy those people than let them take advantage of Kael. There is no need for me to humour them.”

She sounded serious, which made Officer Tyson immediately abandon the mission and whatever he had been about to say.

‘Fuck! Maybe having Elena play Kael is not the best idea. She is too bloodthirsty…’

He looked around, asking for help from the people around him. And finally, there was one person who decided to come in handy. And it was Iris.

“Hey, won’t some of these people have the dungeon cores that Kael is collecting? What are those cores that we need to reawaken Kael? We will need to get closer to those other hunters to make that possible.”

Iris pointed out, and Officer Tyson looked at her like she was his saviour. He finally had someone who understood the perils he was going through and wanted to help him out.

Elena still looked unhappy, but she did not deny those words. However, since it still did not look like she wanted to help, Lyra decided to volunteer herself.

“How about I play Kael? He is my boyfriend, and I am sure I can do him justice. Besides, I can collect the cores while I am at it—”

“Elena, please take up the role of Kael at the upcoming meeting. I know that you don’t want to. But do you truly want Lyra to play Kael instead?”

Seraphina immediately asked, cutting Lyra off before she could finish.

“Hey, this is not fair. I was not done speaking—”

“I see your point. It seems like I have no choice but to play Kael… for all of our sakes. We cannot have Lyra play Kael.”

She agreed, causing Lyra to make a betrayed expression. Her wide eyes looked at Elena as if she could not believe what she had just heard.

“How could you do this to me, Elena? I took you in, fed you, and raised you up. And now you are trying to go against me? You have no filial piety—”

“Lyra, do you truly want to play your boyfriend?”

Elena asked, and the air turned tense at her words. Even Lyra was taken aback before she staggered and decided to back down.

“Well, it is decided. The meeting will be tomorrow, and I will bring you the content that needs to be discussed. Hopefully, this will go off without any trouble…”

But just saying this made it feel as though trouble was heading their way. Officer Tyson felt uneasy but decided that it was fine for now.

They could tackle any situation when it came.

Elena let out a sigh as she watched Officer Tyson leave the room, already making arrangements for the upcoming meeting.

She had no intention of getting involved in something so troublesome, but somehow, she had ended up agreeing to impersonate Kael in front of a group of people who were likely to be suspicious of his every move.

‘I should have just left the moment he started looking at me like that.’

She glanced at Lyra, who was still sulking in the corner, and shook her head.

Honestly, she could not understand why the demon queen was so desperate to play Kael’s role when she would have been exposed within minutes.

“Stop looking at me like that! I would have done a much better job than you!”

Lyra protested, noticing Elena’s gaze.

“Of course. I’m sure you would have done wonderfully.”

Lyra opened her mouth, only to close it again when she realised that she had no answer to such a polite gesture.

Elena sighed and turned away before the argument could continue. She had more important things to worry about, such as figuring out how to imitate Kael’s mannerisms without accidentally threatening someone or turning the meeting into a massacre.

‘This is going to be a disaster.’
