Chapter 47 – Main character energy
After the incident with Shin Jonghak in class, and after a few days of everyone adjusting to Evandel showing up as a polite and quiet guest who just played with her squishy toy during class, Cube returned to relative peace.
Since Thursday was just free training, other than Nayun heading for the hunting club and showing off her archery, it passed by with Lee spending time with Evandel and Rachel... as well as starting a trust fund for Evandel from the proceeds of blatantly plagiarizing- Or rather, 'being inspired from' NovelFires and stories he read back on his Earth and making a stockpile with a paywall to get access to more chapters.
A slow dripfeed, just like crack- Er, candy. Definitely candy.
Either way, those poor Heroes and Mercenaries were going to be hooked before they knew it...
But Thursday passed by without hassle or anything noteworthy.
And then Friday came. March 7, 2025.
It started with a normal morning lecture.
Lee took Evandel as usual, heading off to class with Rachel and Nayun.
But afterwards...
"...Noble Society?" Lee tilted his head, looking at the formal invite card Yeonha handed him.
Yeonha nodded and said, "It's meant to be a social leadership meeting for promising connections after we graduate from Cube."
Nayun rolled her eyes, leaning against the wall of the classroom. "It's just Yeonha's fancy way of saying a group hangout."
Rachel walked over, hugging Evandel in her arms... who in turn was hugging what looked like a dragon plushy. "A noble society..." She wrinkled her nose.
Nayun laughed and pointed at Rachel. "See, Yeonha? I told you the name sucked."
Yeonha bristled and said, "Well, it is a gathering of men and women of class. So a name like the Noble Society fits."
Nayun snorted. "Yeah... you mean a gathering of literally you, Jonghak, and me." She paused. "Speaking of which, you think he's gonna show up?"
Yeonha smiled, although her eyes were cold. "If he doesn't, then he will lose whatever dignity and respect I had left for him. Honestly, to not only challenge Lee directly in Anti-Personnel class but to be so foolish as to attack with clear killing intent in front of an instructor..."
Lee shrugged and said, "To be fair, I'm a master at ragebaiting people. I'm training to get that Lancaster guy to try and jump me again so I can get rid of him for good."
Rachel let out a scandalized gasp and said, "Lee! You can't joke like that!"
"Who said I'm joking?" Lee tilted his head. "Can't have a guy salty about my girl hanging around in this world." He paused. "...I wonder how much it would cost to put a hit on him?"
Rachel swatted Lee's shoulder and said, "Stop talking about things like this in public!"
Yeonha paused. Then she said, "...I am open for inquiries."
"Yoo Yeonha!" Rachel let out a scadalized gasp, although she looked amused.
At that time, Hajin walked over and said, "Are we having a team meeting or something...?"
Yeonha paused, hesitating. She glanced at Lee, Rachel, and Nayun. But then she sighed and held out a card to Hajin as well. "...Here. The Noble Society meeting is at noon at a coffee shop in Seoul. Shin Jonghak may come, so be prepared."
Hajin took the card. "...Noble Society?"
Nayun groaned. "Do I have to explain it again?"
Lee laughed and said, "We should get going before Suho comes over too and invites himself."
Yeonha looked genuinely concerned at that and quickly nodded. "Yes, let's head off. If Kim Suho and Shin Jonghak are in the same room after what happened on Wednesday..." She shook her head. "No. Let's just be off."

At the cafe, Lee sat down at a table with Evandel in his lap. Rachel sat down at his right, fussing over Evandel already.
Nayun sat across from Lee, with Yeonha on her right. And then Hajin sat on the side between both of them.
Yeonha ordered a black coffee with sugar.
Nayun ordered a French roast with cream and sugar.
Hajin ordered a plain black coffee.
Rachel, without any shame, ordered a black tea.
Lee ordered a warm milk cocoa for Evandel, along with some crepes.
And for himself...
"A turtle mocha with coconut milk, three sugars, whipped cream stirred inside, iced, and with whipped cream on top."
The poor barista gave Lee a blank look. But then she slowly nodded and said, "...We will do our best, Sir."
After the barista left, Nayun gave Lee a blank look. "...Really? You know this isn't a Starbucks, right?"
"It's my go-to order. If I'm not drinking coffee at home, I might as well have something fancy when I'm out, right?"
Yeonha stared at Lee with barely concealed envy.
Seeing that, Lee looked amused and said, "Should we make it two?"
"...No." Yeonha rejected Lee's offer and said, "I am fine with black coffee and sugar."
"Really..." Lee hummed and said, "You seem like a junkfood girl though? I saw the bag of chips in your purse when we walked over, you know?"
Yeonha immediately clutched at her purse in a panic. Then she froze when she realized what she just did.
Lee winked. "Got you~"
"...You are fortunate that Evandel is a lovely and adorable toddler or else I would throttle your neck right now."
"Wooow." Lee glanced at Hajin, waiting for him to take a sip of water. "Yeonha gets kinky with you, huh?"
Hajin choked and turned to the side, coughing up water.
Nayun rolled her eyes. "You're never letting up on that, are you?"
"Until I win that bet from shipping them, never."
Yeonha looked scandalized and rounded on Nayun. "You're shipping me and Hajin?!"
"What? You're both delusional. You're perfect for each other." Nayun shrugged. "It's like how Lee's audacity and Rachel's serene nature go hand in hand."
Lee gave Nayun a thumbs up and said, "You get me."
Rachel blushed but didn't deny it.
As for Evandel, she grinned and hugged her stuffed dragon, saying, "Mommy and Daddy, best!"
Nayun laughed. "That's right, Kid. Your mom and dad are the best."
Hajin wiped his mouth with a napkin and said, "Can we please talk about serious things...?"
Lee chuckled and said, "Fine, fine... Then how about the Djinn incident?"
After hearing Lee's words, the table became silent.
"...Yes." Yeonha frowned. "I suppose we should talk about that."
Nayun rubbed her arm and said, "Ugh. I still can't believe that weirdo Sven was a Djinn..."
Lee blinked. "Wait, what?"
"Huh?" Nayun tilted her head. "Didn't you get my text? When I went to the hunting club, that German exchange student turned out to be a Djinn and tried cornering me. I blasted him with a few arrows though." She grimaced. "...But it wasn't pretty."
Lee quickly pulled out his smartwatch. Then he saw that he definitely did miss a text from Nayun. But after that, he gave Nayun a blank stare and said, "I think that a Djinn attack deserves more than a text, doesn't it?"
Nayun's ears turned red and she said, "W-Well it wasn't that big of a deal. Besides, Suho was there too, so we got it sorted out..." She paused. "Wait. Then what Djinn incident were you going to talk about, Lee?"
"...The one that Hajin was involved in at the museum? Hello?"
"...Right." Nayun blinked. "I forgot that happened."
Yeonha's ears turned red.
Lee noticed and said, "...Don't tell me there's ANOTHER Djinn incident I don't know about?"
Yeonha coughed. "...Well. There was that one with the upperclassman from the academic club..."
Hajin winced. "Yeah. That guy..."
Lee paused. "Oh. Ooooh, THAT's why you two like each other, huh? Damsel in distress... I get it."
Yeonha turned a deep red. "That's not... I mean... No, it isn't-!"
Lee laughed, "I'm just kidding. But." He focused, turning deadly serious. "...Isn't this bad? That's two Cube Cadets who turned out to be Djinn. And then there was a blatant attack in Seoul too under broad daylight."
A tense silence filled the air as everyone contemplated the implications.
And then the barista returned with their drinks and Evandel's crepes. She looked around at everyone, seeing the clear tension, and said, "Um... should I... come back?"
===
Lee casually sliced small squares of the crepe to feed Evandel, who happily munched on them. But as he did, he said, "Has Cube said anything about the fact that Djinn infiltrated the student body?"
Yeonha shook her head. "No. Since it's technically the sorts of threats we will be facing anyway, they're just writing it off as the sorts of hazards covered in the waivers for coming here."
Nayun rolled her eyes. "Of course they would. This place is a big international power struggle anyway..."
Rachel sipped on her tea and said, "...Then we need to be careful during exams."
Yeonha paused. "...Of course. That would be the ideal time for something to occur considering all the visitors..."
Hajin glanced over at Lee and Evandel. He stared at Evandel for a bit and then his eyes widened.
Lee noticed and said, "...What's wrong, Hajin? Don't tell me you're a-"
"If you make that joke, I WILL throw my coffee at you, Lee." Hajin gave Lee a blank stare.
"Chill." Lee fed Evandel another piece of her crepes and said, "But you should be careful about how you look at people. Observing them is fine, but you're looking like you wanna stare into their soul. People could get offended."
Hajin flinched and looked at Lee as if he couldn't figure out whether Lee was hinting at something or not.
Lee totally was, but messing with Hajin was fun, so he played oblivious.
...There would definitely be a day where either Hajin figured out Lee wasn't supposed to be here, or Lee let something slip. But until then, he'd have fun keeping Hajin on the edge of his seat.
It was payback for the 'will they won't they' drama Lee had to endure reading the story in the first place.
===
Hajin watched as the others went about shifting the conversation to lighter things and then pretended to pull out his phone to check on something.
But it was a front.
Instead, he read the messages he saw from observing Evandel.
