Chapter 207: Chapter 84: Second Dream Net Test
Seeing their bizarre reactions, Yu Xian was completely bewildered.
’Did it work or not?’
’After all, this is our first attempt, and we didn’t use any professional equipment. Failure would be perfectly normal.’
"Quite the opposite." Yang Yiyi turned to look at Yu Xian, her voice tinged with an amusement she couldn’t suppress.
"It didn’t just succeed. It was... extremely successful."
Yu Xian felt like she had deliberately emphasized the word "extremely."
"It worked?" A weight was lifted from Yu Xian’s chest, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
"Did you meet in the dream? Did you communicate? Was the ’signal’ stable?"
"Yes, we... both saw each other," Yang Yiyi said with a nod, her gaze drifting toward Wen Xiao, who had curled herself into a tiny ball.
"The signal was stable, the dream memories are clear, and our communication was... exceptionally smooth."
"That’s great." Yu Xian was excited. This meant they had successfully taken the first step, proving that the "linking" phenomenon could indeed be replicated.
A new thought struck him, and he asked,
"What about the dream’s content? Was it like we guessed, based on the ’host’? Did you enter Wen Xiao’s dream, or a shared space patched together from both of your minds?"
"It was Wen Xiao’s dream," Yang Yiyi answered simply, not elaborating further.
Yu Xian nodded and, taking the hint, didn’t press the matter.
Since it was a private dream, it must have involved some subconscious, private matters. Judging from Wen Xiao’s reaction, it was probably not a scene he was meant to know about, so he dropped the questions about the dream space.
’As long as the "handshake protocol" for linking works, our objective has been met.’
"Since step one was a success, we can move directly to phase two: testing the blueprint function." Yu Xian looked at Wen Xiao and said,
"Wen Xiao, this audio has a blueprint and a built-in hypnotic effect. I think I can be the subject for the second test. You developed this audio scene, so you know the settings inside and out. It’s our turn."
Hearing this, Wen Xiao finally peeked out from behind the throw pillow. She looked at Yu Xian, then at the smiling Yang Yiyi beside her, and nodded. Then, as if remembering something, she added,
"Oh, right. I kept the standard ’public bus’ guidance sequence in the audio. After you enter the dream, a prompt will pop up to set your sleep duration. That time is based on real-world time. Just enter 10 minutes, and you should wake up when time’s up."
It dawned on Yu Xian. He’d been wondering how Zhang Yang and Li Boxue managed to wake up on time for class without anyone waking them. It turned out the ’public bus’ had this mechanism built in, unlike TDI, where you had to complete a task to wake up.
"Did you design the time-flow rate between the dream and reality?" Yu Xian asked.
"I did. This audio’s time flow is strictly one-to-one with reality." Wen Xiao looked at Yang Yiyi and said,
"Yu Xian might take a little longer to fall asleep. So, once he’s out, if more than fifteen minutes pass and we still haven’t woken up, you can wake us."
"It’ll be deep sleep this time, so you’ll have to shake us pretty hard," Yu Xian added.
"Don’t worry." Yang Yiyi opened the timer on her phone and nodded.
Since this was a guided dream with a clear "script," they didn’t need to worry about who fell asleep first. The two of them lay down on the sofa, got comfortable, put on their headphones, and prepared to enter the dream.
Yu Xian opened the audio file from his chat history with Wen Xiao and pressed play. That familiar, unsettling piano music once again filled his ears.
’That strange Twelve-tone Technique again.’
They still hadn’t figured out why this extremely disharmonious, almost grating music had to be used as the intro. But according to Wen Xiao’s repeated tests, it seemed only this specific musical structure—like the one used for TDI—could successfully construct a dream space.
As the music echoed in his mind, Yu Xian’s fingers, which were folded over his stomach, tightened unconsciously.
Rationally, he knew the "Blueprint Dream" itself had an MCH-suppressing effect, so the "Five-Hundred-Million-Year Button" incident wouldn’t happen again. But subconsciously, his heart still pounded with fear.
’That pure white, boundless prison of endless repetition... it truly was a nightmare he couldn’t shake.’
In a way, he had developed PTSD from this kind of audio.
He gritted his teeth and forced his muscles to relax. Listening to the piano music and the faint white noise, his consciousness gradually began to blur, and the sound of thunder outside slowly faded into the distance.
...
This was the second time Yu Xian had fallen into a dream.
When he opened his eyes again, he found himself floating in a void.
Before he could get a clear look at his surroundings, a translucent panel appeared before his eyes. It had the texture of frosted glass, looking cold and sterile. On it were several number wheels, like those on an old alarm clock, prompting him to set the duration for this dream session.
Yu Xian raised his hand. When his fingertip touched the panel, it felt surprisingly cool. He spun the digital wheels, setting the time to ten minutes.
Just as he was about to hit confirm, his gaze fell on the button at the very bottom of the panel, and he froze.
