Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 398 - 359: Wreaking Havoc
Wu Yun knew through deduction that the Arab man held a pair of nines, while the black man had the Jack of Clubs and the Jack of Hearts.
The dealer quickly dealt the second round of face-up cards.
Just as Wu Yun had predicted, he received the Queen of Spades.
The Arab man’s luck wasn’t so good; his face-up card this round was the Seven of Hearts.
If he couldn’t get another nine, there would be no reason to continue. But Wu Yun knew that the remaining nines and sevens were buried deep in the deck, and the Arab man wouldn’t be able to get one.
Sure enough, after a moment of hesitation, the Arab man chose to fold. ’After all, with so many cards left, it’s too risky to chase a nine! I’ll just write off the million or so I’ve bet. There will be more opportunities later!’
The black man’s luck, however, was pretty good. He got the Jack of Diamonds.
Now, only Wu Yun and the black man remained. Based on the cards showing, the black man’s odds of winning were better than Wu Yun’s; a pair of Jacks looked much stronger than Wu Yun’s Queen and Ace.
Wu Yun closed his eyes again, his mind racing as illusory images of playing cards flashed through his thoughts.
Through a process of elimination, Wu Yun concluded that it was impossible for the black man to get a full house. This round was his to win.
"Action on the Queen of Spades!" The dealer’s voice had barely faded when Wu Yun shoved all of his chips into the center of the table. "All in!"
Going all in meant betting all of one’s remaining chips. His opponent could either call or fold; there would be no further betting.
Wu Yun still had over seven million in chips, and he pushed them all in at once. Including his previous bets, he had now wagered more than eight and a half million on this hand.
It was a staggering sum. The vast majority of people in the world would never earn eight million US dollars in their entire lives.
The sound made the black man’s heart skip a beat, but he quickly regained his composure.
The black man judged that he was on track for a full house, though he couldn’t quite remember which specific cards were coming next.
’Wu Yun probably has a high-card hand or a flush.’
The black man glanced at the massive pile of chips before him—a good twelve million or so.
So he matched Wu Yun’s all-in, pushing over seven million of his own chips forward with a sweep of his hand. "I call!"
The clatter of chips, broadcast from the speakers to the viewing area, instantly tensed the audience. Ayaka Sanji covered her face with her hands, peeking at the screen through the gaps between her fingers.
Since the only two remaining players were all in, the dealer quickly dealt the remaining cards. Wu Yun received a Ten of Spades and a Jack of Spades.
The black man, on the other hand, received a Five of Hearts and a Five of Clubs.
"Showdown, gentlemen," the dealer prompted.
There was no need for any more posturing. Wu Yun simply smiled, reached out, and flipped over his hole card: the King of Spades!
The smile on the black man’s face instantly froze. Shock, disbelief... "a complex mix of emotions" didn’t even begin to describe how he felt.
In the movies, or by all normal dramatic convention, the two of them should have engaged in a fierce psychological showdown before revealing their cards. There should have been large-scale interactions, even brawls, among the spectators. The confrontation should have dragged on for at least ten minutes, even if no one ended up dead.
Of course, that was just how things went in the movies. Who had time for all that in reality?
Seeing the black man’s expression, which even his sunglasses couldn’t conceal, brought Wu Yun a deep sense of satisfaction. ’That’s what you get for running your mouth and insulting Huaxia people.’
The moment the card was revealed, the entire audience erupted. To think that this was the first time Wu Yun himself had seen his own hole card!
And when everyone saw Wu Yun turn over the King of Spades, they all gasped in astonishment.
This was either a case of explosive luck or the second coming of the God of Gamblers!
The outcome of the hand was sealed. No matter what the black man’s hole card was, it couldn’t change the fact that he had just lost over eight million USD.
In that single instant, beads of sweat broke out on the black man’s face and forehead. He sat rigidly in his chair, frozen.
In the end, he never even revealed his hole card. He slumped back against his chair, his chest heaving as if he couldn’t catch his breath.
This money wasn’t his. He was just a professional gambler. As a gang member, he knew all too well the consequences of losing this much.
"YES!" Ayaka Sanji leaped from her seat in excitement. She was genuinely happy for Wu Yun. She hadn’t expected him to win ten million in a single hand, winning back everything he had lost and then some.
Wei Wu and the others were also thrilled, but they knew it wasn’t over yet. The final victor had yet to be decided. They calmed themselves and began observing the expressions of the other spectators.
Their observation quickly paid off. Not far away, in a section also reserved for bodyguards, several burly men—whose clothes, grooming, and general demeanor screamed ’trouble’—were staring at the game floor with nasty looks on their faces. One of them even made a gun gesture to his companion.
Hawkeye murmured in Huaxia, "They’re Mexicans! Not people you want to mess with. Get ready, brothers! Trouble’s coming!"
Da Xiong gave a contemptuous smile. "What’s there to be afraid of? This is the United States, not Mexico! Are they going to come at us with a rocket launcher or something?"
Wei Wu nodded in agreement. "Exactly. We’re safe in the city, but it might be a different story once we leave it. After this is over, we’ll report the situation to the boss. If he wins big, we’ll need to change our travel plans!"
"Hawkeye! Get your drone ready!"
...
For the rest of the session, it was as if Wu Yun had found a pot of gold. Luck was on his side. In every hand, he either managed to cut his losses at the perfect moment or rake in a profit, large or small.
The black man, on the other hand, was psychologically broken. He played in a complete daze and quickly lost the few million he had left.
Utterly defeated, the black man was helped out of the room by the staff.
The moment he was outside, the Mexicans took over, practically dragging him away. As they left, one of the Mexicans glanced back at Wu Yun, putting Wei Wu and his team on high alert.
Just then, the dealer announced a break, and the room descended into a bit of chaos.
"Hawkeye! Poison Thorn! Go follow them! Be careful, and don’t get spotted!" Wei Wu ordered.
Hawkeye and Poison Thorn pretended to be heading to the restroom, blending into the crowd as they followed them out.
Wei Wu glanced at Wang Hao, who looked a little scared, and couldn’t help but smile. "Don’t be afraid. This is the United States!"
As he spoke, Wei Wu made a shooting gesture with his hand. "Worst case, we just head home early!"
Da Xiong also laughed and clapped Wang Hao on the shoulder. "Don’t worry! No matter how tough they are, they’re no match for a professional army! Just a disorganized mob!"
"Whoa! Da Xiong, you’re using idioms now!"
"Of course! I’m definitely winning that ten thousand bucks!"
...
When the break ended, the dealer asked if anyone wanted to take the empty seat. Several people in the audience had been eager to play, but after witnessing Wu Yun’s streak, they all lost their nerve.
So, after calling for new players a few more times with no takers, the dealer announced the game would resume.
A few more rounds passed. The middle-aged white man, realizing he couldn’t win back his losses, decided to cut his losses and run. After losing a total of over four million, he stood up and left the table.
Wu Yun’s chip stack continued to grow. Now, only the Arab man and Takeda Nobuyoshi remained at the table with him.
Both of them were up for the night, just not nearly as much as Wu Yun.
Takeda Nobuyoshi stared at Wu Yun’s mountain of chips. His initial disdain had transformed into respect. If not for his own decent luck tonight, he would have been cleaned out long ago, just like the black man.
The three of them played a few more hands. Just as the Arab man and Takeda Nobuyoshi were about to dip into their initial buy-ins, they both stood up as if on cue. The Arab man announced, "That’s enough for me today! Let’s call it a night. Time to get some rest!"
Are you kidding me? Anyone who didn’t get out of there while the getting was good would have to be a complete idiot.
As Takeda Nobuyoshi stood to leave, however, he turned to Wu Yun. "Huaxia man! I admit, your skill and your nerve are beyond mine. I am truly humbled. Are you coming to watch the boxing match tomorrow? I wonder... would you dare to have a little competition with me?"
Wu Yun assumed Takeda Nobuyoshi was talking about betting on the match, so he nodded in agreement.
After the dealer officially ended the game, casino staff immediately approached to assist Wu Yun.
From the great battle tonight, after deducting the casino’s commission, Wu Yun had won a staggering 22 million US dollars. To any outsider, it was the very definition of getting rich overnight.
