Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 496 - 406: Donation (Part 2)
"Fifty million!" Wang Xuanmin’s shocked voice came through the phone. "Wasn’t it twenty million?"
Wu Yun said nonchalantly, "It was twenty million before. I’ve earned quite a bit recently, so I’m preparing to donate fifty million to the school!"
Wang Xuanmin’s voice was filled with excitement and gratitude. "Then on behalf of the university, let me thank you, Wu Yun, for your contribution! Do you have any specific requests for how this fifty million should be used?"
"Twenty million will be used to establish a fund, and all its earnings will go toward scholarships. Of course, the university will still manage the fund, but I’ll send someone to oversee it."
"The remaining thirty million will be used as funds to support the school’s software and hardware development."
Wang Xuanmin laughed. "Alright! We’ll do it exactly as you wish, Wu Yun! I’ll report this to the principal shortly!"
"As for the second matter, the school year is about to start, and the university is preparing to hold a fall job fair. I was wondering if your company, Wu Yun, is recruiting interns or new graduates?"
Wang Xuanmin’s words reminded Wu Yun of his past life as an ordinary student. He had always been on his own with no one to give him advice, and he’d been completely lost when it came to choosing a job.
"Dean Wang, I can agree to that! As it happens, several of my companies are expanding and have a lot of openings. We can also provide internship certificates for the students."
Wu Yun thought for a moment before continuing, "This involves quite a few industries. I’ll have my secretary compile the information first and send it to your WeChat in the next day or two."
"Thank you so much, Wu Yun!"
He turned down Wang Xuanmin’s offer to treat him to a meal.
Afterward, the two chatted for a little while longer. Wu Yun gave Wang Xuanmin a brief update on his recent situation before hanging up.
Wu Yun looked at Wang Hao, who was sitting on the nearby sofa, and said, "Go and ask the various companies if they have any hiring needs. Oh, and ask Xingyun Media too!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Wu Yun changed his mind. "Actually, never mind. I’ll ask Xingyun Media myself. You just go and compile the data first. Have all the departments with hiring needs prepare for the university’s fall job fair."
Just as Wang Hao picked up his laptop and was about to leave, Wu Yun remembered something he had forgotten. He called out to him, "Wait! While you’re at it, contact the leadership at my high school and tell them I’m interested in making a donation."
When Wu Yun decided to donate to his university, he also thought of the school that had nurtured him for six years. He was especially grateful because after his grandparents passed away one after the other, the school had reduced or waived many of his tuition and miscellaneous fees, even though he had savings.
’So, if I’m donating to my university, I can’t shortchange my high school alma mater either!’
"Right away, President Wu!" Wang Hao cheerfully packed up his laptop and left Wu Yun’s office. He’d actually been feeling a bit restless lately; collecting such a high salary felt like holding a hot potato.
Less than an hour later, Wang Hao knocked and entered. Seeing Wu Yun deep in a game on his computer, he waited until he finished a round before speaking. "President Wu, I’ve compiled the planned recruitment numbers for all the companies. I just sent the file to your WeChat."
"Also, I just contacted your high school alma mater. Principal Liu said he’d like to schedule a time to meet with you. He said they could come to Rongcheng to discuss the details in person."
Wu Yun then asked, "What’s my schedule look like? What free time slots do I have?"
Wang Hao pulled out a notepad and said, "The Titan Game Asian Region finals will be held at the Bird’s Nest in a week. After the finals, you’re scheduled to stay in Capital City for seven days. You have two meetings and three confirmed dinner parties. This coming week is relatively free."
Wu Yun nodded. "Okay. Tell Principal Liu, the day after tomorrow. Find a nice place in Jingyang for that evening."
...
Wu Yun hadn’t been to Xingyun Media in a long time, and he hadn’t given anyone a heads-up that he was coming.
Even with the air conditioning on, the sweltering summer heat had left the receptionists feeling a bit drowsy.
Peng Yujun was idly scrolling through Weibo, while her colleague next to her was nodding off, her head bobbing like a chicken pecking at rice.
Catching a group of people walking toward the company out of the corner of her eye, Peng Yujun instantly perked up. She got an even bigger jolt when she recognized the young man being escorted in the center, and she quickly nudged her colleague with her foot as a warning.
The two of them, who had a practiced understanding, immediately stood up. The still-drowsy colleague subconsciously followed Peng Yujun’s lead and bowed.
"Good afternoon, President Wu!"
Hearing Peng Yujun’s greeting, the drowsy colleague snapped awake. As she straightened up, she finally saw the large group of people in front of her and felt a secret wave of relief. ’Thank goodness for Peng Yujun’s warning.’ Although President Wu was rumored to be easygoing, sleeping on the job was never a good look.
"Are President Wu and President Jiang in?" Wu Yun wanted to surprise the two of them, so he had come directly without calling ahead.
As a receptionist, she was well-informed about the movements of the company’s employees, so Peng Yujun answered without a second thought, "President Wu and President Jiang are not in the office. I believe President Wu went to the live-streaming base today, and President Jiang is probably out on business."
"Should I notify President Wu and President Jiang to come back?" Peng Yujun asked with a smile.
Wu Yun pointed to the few people behind him and said, "No need. Just take care of them."
With that, Wu Yun walked straight toward the inner offices. As he passed the main open-plan office, he noticed that half the desks were empty. The remaining employees were scattered around at their workstations. When someone saw Wu Yun enter, they immediately sat up straight and greeted him, "Good afternoon, President Wu!"
Some of the newer employees who had joined recently hadn’t paid much attention when Wu Yun walked in, but they jumped in surprise upon hearing the greeting.
For a moment, the entire office was filled with the sound of greetings.
Wu Yun nodded, and after a quick look around, he walked down the hallway toward the chairman’s office.
"So that’s the legendary President Wu? He’s so cool! He’s a perfect match for those overbearing CEO characters from TV dramas!" a new employee said, her eyes shining.
Her colleague next to her joked, "What, are you hoping to ’accidentally’ run into President Wu? Are you going to splash coffee on him or bump into him with a stack of files?"
"Tch~ I was just saying! I know the difference between reality and TV dramas. There aren’t that many Cinderellas who get to climb the ladder!"
It had to be said, there were slackers everywhere. Passing by the finance office, Wu Yun saw four women inside through the glass door, laughing and chatting with snacks in their hands.
When a slightly chubby woman saw Wu Yun, her smile froze. The potato chip in her hand fell to the floor. She quickly hid the bag behind her back and gave Wu Yun an awkward nod of greeting.
Wu Yun just smiled and continued on his way, unfazed.
Wu Yun didn’t really care about employees slacking off. As long as you finished your assigned work, he found it understandable that you might do your own thing in your spare time.
After all, Wu Yun didn’t believe that making employees work "996" would generate more profit. Everything should be done in moderation. A moderate workload and adequate rest are what allow employees to unleash their full potential and contribute to the company’s growth and development.
Although Wu Yun had never experienced "996" or "007" in his past life, friends around him had.
For example, when he had just started working, Gao Qiang had complained to him more than once that he hadn’t had a proper day off in over ten days on the construction site. During the day, he was either pouring concrete or doing paperwork, doing the work of several people all by himself.
Many people online also complained about working overtime without overtime pay, or about bosses severely exploiting their employees. Similar examples were everywhere, but very few people stood up to resist. They had to swallow their anger and endure it just to make a living.
Although Wu Yun had never personally endured such hardships, when establishing his company’s policies, he had made it clear that overtime must be compensated with overtime pay, and everything had to be done according to the law.
