Others are not familiar with Lv Beiguang, and they didn’t think much of it.

But those who knew him could see his agitation.

Pan Xiaoying felt embarrassed and couldn’t stay any longer. However, her husband hadn’t finished eating, so she had to sit there awkwardly waiting.

In fact, she hoped the educated youths would come over to ask what was going on, but no one really did.

Hou Wenhui had a good relationship with Yang Xiuqin, and the old educated youths were also kind to Yang Xiuqin, while the new ones knew nothing about her, leaving Pan Xiaoying’s expectation unmet once again.

Lv Beiguang was now restless; he wanted to go back, to think things through carefully. He had been single for over ten years, and had never had such dreams before.

Without such dreams, Lv Beiguang wouldn’t have suspected anything, as they weren’t always glued to each other.

But with these dreams, Lv Beiguang felt uncertain in his heart.

Yet it was a joyous occasion, so it would be improper for him to leave alone. He felt as though the day dragged on endlessly.

Finally, lunch was over. Lv Beiguang didn’t stay behind to help; he simply said a word and rushed back to the distillery.

His steps were a bit scattered, Jing Chu wanted to follow him, but Jiang Xinyu held her back.

She then reluctantly calmed down and helped with the chores.

The leftover food was taken back by the educated youths. There were many helping hands, so the cleanup was quick.

Yang Zhongyi gave each helping village woman two yuan, a pound of meat, and a packet of brown sugar.

They were different from the villagers who had reciprocal interactions—a favor today would be reciprocated tomorrow. So giving money and goods seemed a fair way to settle the favor.

The borrowed tables, chairs, benches, and cutlery were returned.

The villagers left, leaving only Jin Erlin’s family behind.

"Uncle Jin, I’ll drive you home."

Yang Zhongyi had driven here, and he and his wife were heading back to the troops tomorrow.

"No need. Our bikes are in the township."

"Uncle Jin, you’ve had too much to drink; it’s better if I drive you."

Jin Erlin was elated today. The old leader had let his three children come here, and back then, there was really nothing they could do but worry about not taking good care of them. Unexpectedly, they not only adapted to the life but also started their own families.

In the end, Tao Chunhe drove to take the Jin Family home.

Yang Zhongyi and Tao YanZhen were inside the house, both feeling quite awkward. With this simple ceremony, now they were truly husband and wife.

But both of them had someone else in their hearts, uncertain of how their future married life would be.

"Yang Zhongyi, how should we deal with each other in the future? Will we just have the title and no reality, or how?"

Yang Zhongyi was taken aback; he hadn’t even thought about this issue. Tao YanZhen’s question caught him off guard.

After some reflection, he replied, "Xiao Zhen, my thought is that we should live our lives steadily. Since we’re married, what’s this about having just a title?"

Tao YanZhen nodded, for she truly didn’t mind. Having agreed on this today made things easier for the future.

"Yang Zhongyi, then let’s be a normal couple. I may not be a good wife, but I will be loyal to the family, to you, and to future children."

"Xiao Zhen, me too. I’ll be loyal to our family."

They were talking about physical loyalty, but also reminded themselves that emotional fidelity was just as important.

This also meant that they would have a wedding night and, in the future, children.

Both felt quite awkward inside, but having come to an agreement, there was no going back.

"Xiao Zhen, tomorrow we’ll return to the troops, the day after we’ll come back, okay?"

"Okay."

"My wedding leave lasts a month, so I’ll stay home with you."

Tao YanZhen nodded, having forgotten he had leave.

With the discussion done, they each took a book and lay on the kang, reading.

Lv Beiguang hurried back to the distillery, heading to his room for the first time without going straight to the workshop.

Lying on the kang, he didn’t know what he was thinking.

Thinking back to before Yang Xiuqin left, it truly seemed she had behaved oddly—almost as if she was avoiding him.

But then, when did they even get together?

Lv Beiguang tried hard to recall. Was it after drinking on that small New Year night? The next morning, he indeed felt something was off.

If calculating the days, then if there was something, it must have been then. His memory of that night was indeed fuzzy from drinking.

Lv Beiguang’s mind was a mess, tangled with many thoughts, unsure of where to begin.

Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang came to work but didn’t find Lv Beiguang in the workshop.

They found him in his dorm.

The three men sat there awkwardly.

"I want to visit Xiao Yang’s place."

Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang nodded, indeed it should be confirmed.

"Actually, I don’t know; I have no memory of it. If it’s true, then it must be that night, when I first tasted that wine. Two glasses were enough to get me drunk, even blanking out.

The next morning I felt a bit off. And I’ve since had a few dreams."

It was truly difficult to speak of it, but Lv Beiguang felt he should share. He couldn’t talk to Jiang Xinyu about these matters, nor to the children, so he only confided in these two.

"When are you leaving?" Wei Kaiyun reckoned the child was indeed Lv Beiguang’s; they hadn’t heard of Yang being close with anyone else, and timewise she was at the distillery then, so it was only Lv Beiguang.

"You could try drinking again. Here at the distillery with Xiao Wei and us, we’ve learned well, you can leave assured."

Lv Beiguang nodded. "I’ll leave tomorrow, but I need to find out Xiao Yang’s address."

"Xinyu might have it; I’ll ask her, and if not, I’ll inquire with Li Yungui, he definitely will."

"Okay, I’ll inform the kids." Lv Beiguang felt quite embarrassed, but he had to clarify things with the children given his plan to investigate.

Lv Beiguang returned home, where everyone was present. Li Xue quickly stood, "I’ll go soothe Jing Chen to sleep."

Leaving only Lv Family father and sons in the main room.

"Dad, what Pan Xiaoying said must be true." Jing Chu said, holding Lv Beiguang’s hand.

"I’ll go and see tomorrow. I can’t be sure. I have no memory of us ever being together. The most likely time is that small New Year night, when we drank Drunken Three Lives."

Guodong and Jing Chu had no objections. They both hoped their father could have a companion, and had no issues with Yang Xiuqin.

They hadn’t interacted much, but if their father could work with her for so long, she surely wasn’t a troublesome person.
