Chapter 1333 - 1205: Picking Up Family
Chapter 1333: Chapter 1205: Picking Up Family
July in Beijing, its face is always unpredictable; at noon, it’s stiflingly hot enough to drive people crazy, but in the blink of an eye, a sudden downpour can come both wildly and elegantly.
Mr. Zhang and Mother Zhang arrived amidst such a sudden rainstorm.
Brother Ping’an and his siblings stood on the platform, took over their grandparents’ luggage, including that quilt.
May 1st teased, "Grandma, how did you know my destination is as cold as our old home in the Northeast?"
"Really?"
Faced with his grandmother’s surprise, May 1st dared not jest anymore, "Thank you, grandma, I know you always love me the most."
"Hahaha..." Mother Zhang’s usual hearty laughter echoed across the platform. She patted the grandson carrying the luggage and supporting her, "Have you prepared warm clothes?"
"Got them all." Hearing her laughter, May 1st felt inexplicably joyful, "I can’t bear to leave you. How about you ditch grandpa, and the two of us head abroad?"
"Silly child, grandma can’t speak foreign languages."
Beside her, supported by Liu Yi, Mr. Zhang’s face creased with laughter, watching them cheerfully, "May 1st takes after your dad, always knows how to amuse your grandma."
Liu Yi turned his head to glance at his elder brother, saw him carrying the luggage and following along, and replied, "Yeah, he’s sweet-tongued. My grandpa often says he’s the joy of the family."
"Our Liu Yi isn’t bad either. When do you report in? Will you be very tired?"
"No, I’m used to it. After May 1st goes abroad, my brother and I will report in. During this time, we can accompany you and grandma for some outings."
"It’s fine for us, you focus on your important tasks."
"It’s vacation, we’re home, nothing crucial happening." Liu Yi glanced at the torrential rain outside, frowned, "Grandpa, wait a minute, I’ll carry you to the car."
"No need, my body can handle snow, what’s there to fear about this rain?"
Between these exchanges, Liu Yi and May 1st put down the luggage for Ping’an to look after, picked up raincoats to cover Mr. Zhang and Mother Zhang, picked them up and made a dash for the car.
This maneuver had Mr. Zhang and Mother Zhang laughing heartily, while continuously lamenting how these kids truly saw them as old. Yet, in their hearts, it cleared the disappointment of not seeing their son first thing.
"Grandpa, Grandma..."
Approaching the parking spot, a shout was suddenly heard, everyone looked up, ah~, turns out Shi Tou was there holding an umbrella, waiting.
The Liu Yi brothers could hardly stop to respond to him first, focusing on getting Mr. Zhang and Mother Zhang into the car, "Brother Shitou, stay with grandma and grandpa. I’ll be right back."
"Need any help?"
"No need, back in a moment."
Shi Tou didn’t stand on ceremony with them, closed the umbrella, followed them into the car, and took out a handkerchief to wipe his face.
Mr. Zhang looked at him puzzled, "Why did you come? Didn’t I tell your dad, there’s no need for a telegram, we’ll head your way in a couple of days?"
"Hehe~" Shi Tou chuckled, "We miss you and grandma. Grandpa, Grandma, you must be exhausted from the journey? Hungry? I’ve prepared some food."
"Silly boy." Mr. Zhang dismissively waved his hand, "Your uncle arranged a sleeper berth, your grandma and I slept and ate all the way, not tired."
"Still, lie back and relax for a bit. My partner and Mai Sui are at uncle’s old residence, they were supposed to come over, but seeing Ping’an and the others already here, I told them not to, I caught the bus, just made it in time, it’s a full load."
Mother Zhang, surprised, asked, "Everyone’s here? No work?"
"Little Tao is on vacation, I swapped shifts with colleagues, elder sister just finished her night shift rest last night, my wife has work starting at the new semester, so everyone’s here."
"That’s good, important work comes first, don’t swap shifts next time." After advising, Mother Zhang asked, "How’s your work unit? Nobody giving you trouble?"
Upon hearing this, Shi Tou chuckled, "Grandma, who would bully a newbie like me. Besides, May 1st visited my unit, he’s well-connected, many know who my little aunt is, they wouldn’t dare mess with me."
"That’s true for elder sister too. Her head of department is a student of my little aunt’s apprentice, they still hope my elder sister could invite my little aunt for a few days of consultation at the hospital, but my little aunt is very busy, truly no time."
"Wow, our Jiao Jiao is so amazing." Mother Zhang was instantly pleased.
"Grandma, my little aunt is just as accomplished as my uncle. Earlier, I didn’t know, but I heard my little aunt was reputedly top of her class. The university she and my uncle attended still hopes she would come and teach a few classes."
Shi Tou spoke with evident excitement, "Apparently my little aunt is proficient in eight languages, May 1st inherited this trait from her. My little aunt also led classmates in the improvement of the first generation of generators, don’t you reckon May 1st and the others inherited that too? They worked on televisions and motorcycles."
Mr. Zhang nodded in agreement upon hearing this. As they say, the mother of the child is crucial, as Xiao Wu, his son, says, genetic inheritance.
"My little aunt’s achievements aren’t limited to this, I heard from an old professor at our school, she’s quite like her grandfather and grandmother."
Mr. Zhang gestured for his grandson to continue, intrigued.
"The specifics weren’t mentioned, just said my little aunt excels at whatever she does, turning each into a landmark achievement. A few years back, she disliked the lack of vegetables in winter, fiddled around at home, now she’s recognized in the agronomy institute, she leads a trial field in Jingjiao focused on greenhouse vegetables."
Mother Zhang couldn’t help but interject, "What’s that? Is it what your uncle mentioned, eating summer vegetables in winter?"
"Your uncle told you?" Shi Tou rubbed the back of his head, "That’s right. Grandpa, do you think we can do that in our village?"
Mr. Zhang glanced at him meaningfully, "You want me to ask your little aunt?"
"Yes, Xiao Jiang wrote to me, he wants to venture out, but I think it’s unsafe. If our village can grow vegetables in winter, life for the clan would improve considerably."
Shi Tou referred to Xiao Jiang as Zhang Qingfeng’s youngest son, his eldest being Da Jiang, one of the first in their group to attend university, now graduated.
Mr. Zhang pondered, then shook his head, "Wouldn’t be suitable, if feasible, your uncle wouldn’t need prompting, he’d already be contemplating it. The juice workshop in the village was initiated by your uncle."
"I see."
"Mmm, if our old home really starts growing vegetables, someone might accuse your little aunt of abuse of power, doesn’t feel right. Avoid bringing this up in front of Yin Suo and the others, don’t make your uncle feel awkward."
"Understood."
Mother Zhang, waiting for the grandfather and grandson’s topic to conclude, curiously asked, "You and Xiao Jiang also write to each other?"
"Yes, the Liu Yi brothers often write to us, Yin Suo and the older brother lean towards more frequent contact. Grandma, Xia Jiang didn’t mention tagging along this time?"
Mr. Zhang and Mother Zhang exchanged looks and both shook their heads. This time, they hurriedly left, only getting a message to their hometown.
