“Settled?” Miao Lishan breathed a sigh of relief, “Finally getting married! It’s been dragging on for so long. If they don’t get married now, they’ll have to look for a second marriage.”

Zhou Jiao chuckled silently.

“What’s so funny? Hurry up and prepare the gifts. Your second sister-in-law has sent us a lot of stuff over the years. Remember to notify me in advance for this wedding.”

“Okay.”

“I wonder if they’ve been allocated a marital home? Old Wu and his wife aren’t around here, so as her aunt and uncle, you should take care of the preparations.”

“Okay.”

“No, you should call Mai Sui first. Who knows if Xiao Wu’s guess is right? If this doesn’t work out, I’ll introduce her to a match.”

Zhang Guoqing curiously asked, “Mom, do you have someone suitable?”

“Not right now, but it seems like your Aunt Chen and her friends really enjoy matchmaking. When I met with your little aunt today, she kept asking if our May 1st has anyone, saying she has lots of good candidates.”

He thought as much; his mother-in-law wouldn’t know any young talented people suitable for Mai Sui.

“Isn’t that funny? I told her our May 1st is abroad, so even if she has candidates, they can’t meet them right away. Can you guess what she said?”

Zhang Guoqing cooperatively asked, “What did she say?”

“She said there are students studying abroad too. First, introduce the young people to each other so they can take care of each other out there and maybe it’ll work out.”

Miao Lishan shook her head, “This reasoning isn’t reliable. How would our May 1st have time? I refused.”

Zhou Jiao thoughtfully touched her neck, “It’s not that simple. It’s quite easy to get close to May 1st abroad, with so many gatherings of compatriots every year.”

Zhang Guoqing smiled to reassure them, “Don’t worry, our May 1st can handle this kind of thing. But it’s Da Zhi’s youngest sister who will also be going abroad, we should take care of her.”

Miao Lishan was surprised and blurted out, “Really? Aren’t they in different generations?”

“Mom, where are you thinking?” Zhang Guoqing amusedly explained, “That girl is May 1st’s junior, if there were any interest, it would have been discussed before he went abroad.”

Miao Lishan blinked, there were too many things tonight. She needed to drink tea to calm down, but why did she feel something odd inside?

“How does Aunt Chen address Old Mrs. Geng?”

“Third Aunt.” Zhang Guoqing said, then looked at Zhou Jiao in surprise, “Do you think it’s possible? Did Mom guess right? It doesn’t seem like it. If the Geng family had intentions, Da Zhi would have mentioned it to me, didn’t his wife leak anything to you?”

Zhou Jiao furrowed her brow, thought for a moment, then shook her head decisively.

Zhang Guoqing breathed a sigh of relief.

He didn’t want all three daughters-in-law to be from the same circle, not to mention future conflicts that might complicate things, how would the titles change?

“I might not have other skills, but my intuition is always good. Jiao Jiao inherited this from me. I just knew your Aunt Chen was acting weird today!”

Miao Lishan spoke with increasing confidence and clapped her hands, “Think again, what did that girl always call you when she met you? Whenever she saw me at the Big Courtyard, she called me Grandma.”

Zhou Jiao quickly looked at Zhang Guoqing.

Zhang Guoqing immediately shook his head, “Uncle Geng has always lived outside, I’ve met that little girl less than a handful of times.”

Zhou Jiao glanced at him plaintively, “If Mom’s guess is really right, it would be a big mess, that girl always calls me Aunt Jiao with Xiao Bei and the others.”

“Why worry? We just play dumb.”

“Right, it’s all just wild guesses, don’t take it seriously.” Zhou Jiao nodded decisively, “Little Jiu is suitable for my younger son.”

Zhang Guoqing rubbed her hair in frustration! She wants to play some subliminal influence, but is he falling for it?

“It’s not about marrying you! I don’t care! As long as my grandson likes it, whoever he wants.”

“What about a foreign daughter-in-law?”

“As long as he likes it.”

Zhang Guoqing quickly gave a thumbs up, “My mom is so democratic! You see, you’re not as good as Mom. Just remember, our son is the real deal!”

“Don’t mind her, she’s stubborn!” Miao Lishan snorted, “If I wouldn’t marry Xiao Wu, would you agree? Don’t do to others what you don’t want yourself.”

Zhou Jiao laughed helplessly, “Mom, am I that kind of person? I’m not forcing the son to choose Little Jiu, I just feel that kid is nice in many ways.”

“Then stop bringing up Little Jiu on the phone later? I hear you ask every time, ‘Son, is Little Jiu by your side?'”

“Right, that’s Xiao Wu’s idea too.”

Zhou Jiao glared at Zhang Guoqing: troublemaker! Wrongly accused her, looks like someone’s asking to kneel on durian!

Does she blatantly mention Little Jiu to the son every time? Knowing full well the son would travel without Little Jiu, could she as a mother sway the dutiful son’s heart?

Zhang Guoqing guiltily touched his nose, “I’ll check to see if Aunt Chen has finished preparing the late-night snacks? Mom, you chat slowly.”

Sigh…

Being a good father is really tough!

After showering and coming out, Zhang Guoqing was surprised to see Zhou Jiao twisted into a ball on the bed, “Honey, what are you doing?”

“Huff… practicing yoga.”

Zhang Guoqing examined her skeptically, “You’re in great shape though.”

“Don’t bother me, I’m entering menopause and need peace!”

“Isn’t peace acquired by copying scriptures?” Zhang Guoqing contained his laughter, “Practicing calligraphy works too. What if you strain your back?”

Zhou Jiao rolled her eyes and slowly exhaled.

“Sweetheart, come, tell me, what’s bothering you? Annoyed by what I said? Or did those ladies tell you something this afternoon?”

Zhou Jiao hooked her long leg over her head and squeezed out a word, “No comment.”

“That’s a big issue. How about your man dance for you?”

At midnight, that’s crazy!

“Can’t keep rolling your eyes, what if you become cross-eyed?” Zhang Guoqing clapped his hands, “Come, let your hubby sing you ‘Sweet Honey’.”

“Poof,” Zhou Jiao couldn’t help but giggle, dropped onto the bed alone, “Honey, why don’t you like Little Jiu?”

Zhang Guoqing secretly sighed, knew she was fixating on this problem! He asked back, “Then tell me, why do you like her?”

Zhou Jiao tucked her hands under her head and began analyzing point by point.

“One, the girl has a mind; two, once she likes May 1st, she’ll prioritize him; three, the three girls get along well, conducive to family harmony;

four, no burdens from her mother’s side; five, she’s endured hard times, exactly what May 1st lacks; six, most importantly, May 1st has good feelings for her.”

Zhang Guoqing nodded slowly after listening. I must say, those reasons are quite many!

“And you?”

“Only one reason trumps all 123456, my son must genuinely agree!”

“Alright, the reasoning holds.”

Zhang Guoqing scooped her up and lay on the bed, “Not making me kneel on durian? I saw your anger heating up downstairs.”

“Couldn’t bear it!”

She indeed needed peace.

Sometimes, worrying too much about the son is nothing less than putting pressure on him.
