After sending Ping’an out, Liu Yi clapped his hands in the courtyard and sighed: Everyone is so worrisome! No wonder his mother went to Tanze Temple for peace!

He walked leisurely to the door of Aunt Chen’s room with one hand in his pocket, and called out to Grandma Chen.

“Hungry?” Aunt Chen quickly came out, “Or is there something you want to eat?”

Liu Yi smiled and shook his head, “It’s still early. Grandma Chen, please prepare a gift for me. My cousin is getting married, the three of us brothers weren’t there; I want to visit in the afternoon.”

“Does your mom know?”

“Such small matters, better not disturb her.”

“Alright. What standard?”

“Simple is fine, I’ve got another gift ready.”

“Okay, your dad will come back at noon, better mention this to him. Last time, I heard him say the newlyweds would have a banquet at the groom’s hometown by the end of the year, don’t make a trip for nothing. He also remembered your grandparents.”

Liu Yi nodded his thanks.

On this point, his troublesome younger brother did very well, occasionally sending packages back home from abroad, unlike him and the eldest who were neglectful.

After instructing, Liu Yi glanced at the sky, walked out alone, paused briefly at the Geng family’s gate, then continued forward.

No matter if his foolish brother was aloof or fond of Geng Baobao, before he figured it out, it wasn’t suitable for the family to make a gesture, better to avoid visiting!

Liu Yi pondered whether to apply for an overseas task while walking, preferably to meet his brother in person. He had to see how the boy managed to juggle schooling with side jobs secretly, where was the time for romance?

He walked and unconsciously arrived at Zhang Guoqing’s office entrance, thought for a moment and went in. There were some matters unsuitable to discuss with his mom, but fitting to talk over with his dad.

Upon reaching Zhang Guoqing’s office, Xiao Zhang, his father’s new secretary, mentioned they were in a meeting, Liu Yi knew everyone was busy, and for now, he didn’t feel like seeing Yi Tangtang.

So he checked the time, deciding to wait for him.

“Hey~ Son, not accompanying your wife?”

“Just saw her this morning.” Liu Yi replied casually, “Dad, are you busy right now?”

Zhang Guoqing found his son serious, and playfully tapped him on the forehead, “No matter how big the issue, it can’t surpass my son, tell me, what’s the trouble?”

Liu Yi furrowed his brows, “It’s not me, it’s May 1st.”

Zhang Guoqing raised his brows, “Relationship issue?”

“You know?”

“Guessed!” Zhang Guoqing shrugged, “Don’t worry, that Little Jiu won’t happen!”

Liu Yi was surprised, “Didn’t mom say they were well-suited?”

Zhang Guoqing turned to look outside first, to prevent eavesdropping, then smiled at his son, “Have you ever seen your brother not getting along with anyone?”

“Indeed, he’s different from me.”

“I would’ve preferred him to be like you,” Zhang Guoqing shook his head helplessly, “Wearing a mask too long might make it real. Did your mom talk to you about Little Jiu?”

Liu Yi shook his head, “Does mom really like Little Jiu?”

“It’s sympathy!”

Liu Yi let out a relieved breath, “That’s good.”

“Silly son! Just one little girl makes you all overthink? Remember your grandpa said that girl wasn’t a match for May 1st, you thought he was joking?”

“Dad, you aren’t fond either?”

“Me?” Zhang Guoqing paused, “At first, it was fine, your brother liked her, your mom didn’t mind, I was okay with it. But ever since your mom returned from overseas, I didn’t have a good impression.”

“Reason?”

Faced with his son’s tight questioning, Zhang Guoqing smiled indifferently.

He was about to teach his son some things. Although Little Tangtang was a confirmed daughter-in-law, the future is unpredictable; who knows if his son might fall into a romantic entanglement!

“I understand your mom very well. Mo Xiaobei, she watched grow up and liked, yet did she ever speak well of her in front of your brother? Even Little Tang’er, raised nearby, did she ever persuade you?”

Liu Yi shook his head. His mother wasn’t one to meddle.

“Your mom always puts her sons first; frankly speaking, if you don’t like, even an angel wouldn’t qualify as a daughter-in-law.

But it’s odd Little Jiu caught her eye. Before going abroad, I’d agree, but the issue is why one overseas visit changed her view?

Your mom says true intentions are rare. Yet Yi Zhe’s daughter’s fondness for May 1st, despite their family being lesser than ours, has she ever exploited May 1st?”

Liu Yi contemplated, furrowing his brow.

“Yet your mom thinks that girl is sincere, does that surprise you?”

Liu Yi nodded slightly.

“I can’t bear criticizing your mom, as long as your brother isn’t tricked, even if your mom likes the girl, she’d still favor her own son.”

After Zhang Guoqing finished speaking, he looked at Liu Yi with a meaningful glance, “Dad’s telling you a truth, never underestimate women. The more they play pitiful, the more you must be cautious. Consider if a girl attacking your mom’s weakness could be too weak to handle even the Zheng family?”

Liu Yi’s expression darkened, “She’s using my mom?”

“Don’t rush, keep calm first. It’s not her using your mom, it’s your appearance giving her opportunity. She has a great identity, a martyr’s orphan.

With that, even though dad knows he’s being used, he must let her. Why? It’s a strategic move. I don’t mind, but using tricks on your mom isn’t negotiable.”

“Why not tell May 1st?”

“Tell him what? It’s a test for him. If he can’t see through this, he’s truly not my son.”

“Aren’t you worried he’ll be fooled and genuinely fall for her? That would be too late.”

Zhang Guoqing laughed heartily.

“Dad?”

“Silly son! You think he’s alone abroad, and your grandpa and I wouldn’t send protectors?”

Liu Yi smacked his forehead and smiled awkwardly.

“Dad secretly tells you, before your mom went abroad, I knew they wouldn’t work. Your brother never brought that girl along to events abroad; what does that indicate, understand?”

With pride, Zhang Guoqing lifted his chin, “A man who doesn’t bring the woman he likes to important occasions, the reasons are either fear of not fitting in, fear of her feeling aggrieved, or fear of misunderstanding.”

Liu Yi scooted closer, hugging him, “Dad, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

Zhang Guoqing stroked his head, “My son is doing big things, doesn’t need to worry about such matters. Liu Yi, promise dad, be more cautious with the opposite sex in the future.

Especially female comrades who went through life and death together, be extra wary; there’s no such thing as a true platonic friend. Even if there is, time and emotions can lead to trouble; cherish Little Tang’er well, a woman who has accompanied you since childhood is truly what your mom means by rare sincerity.”

“Yes, I’ll remember.”

“Sigh… Among the three brothers, I’m least worried about May 1st. It’s you and your elder brother; especially him, his ambition overshadows everything, even the best girl might not be accustomed to always waiting, waiting too long can lead to coldness. If he doesn’t marry next year, it must be arranged the year after.”
