Chapter 1659: Chapter 942: Persuade/Go_3
"Then what do we do?" Xing Nong spread her hands. "Why do I feel like we’ve walked into a dead end? Paying him won’t work, marrying Li Xiaoyan won’t work either, so we can only give up that menu. What a pity, I was hoping to taste the authentic Imperial Meal the Emperor ate. Looks like I can only keep dreaming."
Luo Ye looked at Qu Yue. "How’s the household registration issue for Li Xiaoyan coming along?"
"All done, I left the papers in my office."
"Here’s what we’ll do: once we’re done today, or tomorrow if that doesn’t work, I’ll go with you. That menu is worth us making the trip."
"Didn’t you just say going there would be useless?" Xing Nong sized Luo Ye up and down. "Luoluo, I know you’re awesome, but what’s the point of you going? Don’t tell me you’re planning to marry that old man’s grandson?"
"Get lost!" Luo Ye glared at her. "Your teeth itch if you don’t bicker, huh?" As she spoke, she fished a little box out of her pocket. "Here, grind your teeth on this."
Xing Nong opened the little box and saw golden-brown roasted soybeans, then picked one up and tossed it into her mouth. She bit down hard—"Crack!"—and the bean bounced away.
"You’re supposed to chew slowly and a little at a time."
"I’m done." Xing Nong shoved the little box back into Luo Ye’s hand. "How can you carry something this nasty around? Isn’t that just asking for trouble?"
"Fine, don’t eat it." Luo Ye put the box back in her pocket. "Other people don’t even get a chance to try this. You think I’m bored enough to lug around a tiny box of beans for nothing?
I’m telling you, this stuff has tons of benefits. Don’t say I never gave you a chance—you can still change your mind right now, or later even if you beg me, you’re not getting any."
"They’re just a few crappy beans." Xing Nong’s face went dark. "Luoluo, do you really take me for an idiot?"
"Qiu’er, you’re overthinking it, seriously." As Luo Ye spoke, she took out the little box, picked out a bean, popped it into her mouth, and chewed slowly. After a long moment she swallowed and said, "The biggest benefit is that it calms people down and evens out their temper."
"Your temper isn’t even?" Xing Nong looked her over suspiciously. "Luoluo, did something happen to bother you? How come I never noticed?"
"It’s physical. I was a bit irritable, so I used this method and slowly fixed it. Of course, the main thing is, these beans don’t just smooth out your temper, they’re also really good for the body." Luo Ye said, pulling out a sheet of paper and handing it to her. "Take a look at the ingredients and you’ll get it."
Seeing the paper covered densely in writing, Xing Nong glanced twice and already felt a headache. "Forget it, I’m not reading it. I don’t plan on studying medicine anyway. How about this—give me a few more beans to try?"
"Too late, not giving you any." Luo Ye snatched the formula back. "Don’t read it then."
"Luoluo, give me one to try?" Qu Yue reached out curiously. "Since it’s so good, let me try one."
"If you have to fight for food, it must be good." Luo Ye said, taking out the box and passing it to Qu Yue. "Here, be careful, don’t chip a tooth."
She really wasn’t lying—these beans were indeed what she used to temper her own moods. Ever since her body changed, she often felt like there was a ball of fire sitting in her chest. Elder Pan, Elder Zhong and Old Zhuang had all checked her pulse; it was normal. She couldn’t tell them the truth, so she went to Grand Old Master Ye instead. The old master came up with this method: eat these roasted beans that had been soaked in specific medicinal herbs.
They both smooth out your temper and clear internal heat. She’d been eating them for a while, and they worked quite well. Now she basically didn’t have bouts of irritability anymore.
Once the New Year was over, everyone would be heading to the army to intern. Xing Nong was smart, but her temper was a bit on the hot side—that was why Luo Ye gave her the beans.
Luo Ye and the others walked into Grandma Hua and Grandpa Ji’s courtyard. Two little girls hurried up to them. "Miss, Grandpa and Grandma fell asleep."
Ye nodded and tiptoed into the room for a look. She saw Grandma Hua wearing a bright red satin suit, Grandpa Ji in a maroon satin suit. The two of them were leaning on each other, fast asleep on the sofa.
She quietly backed out and called to the two girls, "Wake them up at twelve." The auspicious time at noon was twelve sixteen. Waking the couple at twelve should be just in time.
When the three of them returned to the banquet hall, all the guests attending the wedding had already arrived. Seeing Luo Ye, Jiang Zheng waved at her with a broad smile.
"Uncle Jiang, Aunt Jiang, when did you get here?" Luo Ye sat affectionately beside Jiang Zheng. No matter what had happened with Jiang Yang, Jiang Zheng was someone she always respected. Although Jiang Zheng’s wife looked a bit displeased, out of courtesy she still greeted her with a smile.
"We only just got here. Ye’er, your Sister Jiang Yang is thoughtless, don’t hold it against her. If you have to blame someone, blame me and your aunt for not raising her right."
"Heh..." Luo Ye flicked a glance at Jiang’s wife, who refused to even look at her. "Uncle Jiang, listen to what you’re saying. Look, Aunt Jiang isn’t talking to me as it is. If you keep saying things like that, she’ll ignore me even more."
"Ye’er, you’ve misunderstood. I’m mad at Jiang Yang." Jiang’s wife forced out a strained smile. "That girl is driving me crazy.
She never listens when we talk and never believes us, always doing things that make people dislike her. If it were something else, her father and I could at least say a few words for her.
But when it comes to feelings, how are we supposed to butt in? Yet that child insists we as her parents don’t care, don’t love her. Look at her—your Uncle Jiang and I came, and she won’t even look at us, just hides off to the side. Makes me furious.
You’re several years younger than Yangyang, but when it comes to handling things, Yangyang is nowhere near you, Ye’er. Sigh, your Uncle Jiang and I only have this one daughter; she’s worrying us to death."
"As long as Aunt Jiang doesn’t blame me, that’s all that matters. My brother’s love life really isn’t something I can meddle in..." Luo Ye glanced across the room and saw Jiang Yang trailing behind Ye Xuan, saying something she couldn’t hear. She smiled. "Sister Jiang Yang seems to have some misunderstanding about me; I’ll go over and see."
"Sigh!" Jiang’s wife let out a heavy sigh and turned to Jiang Zheng. "Back then I told you to propose and you didn’t take it seriously. Now look at the mess..."
"Enough, shut up." Jiang Zheng glared at her. "How can you force this kind of thing?"
Jiang’s wife looked completely unconvinced. "Xiao Feng listens to Ye’er so well—if Ye’er talked to him, it would definitely work."
"Are you here to attend the wedding or to make trouble?" Jiang Zheng shot his wife another glare. "Kids don’t understand things, and you don’t either?"
"I’m just worried about our daughter." Jiang’s wife sighed. "You know what Yangyang’s temperament is like. If this keeps up, I’m really afraid..."
"Instead of worrying, it’s better to guide her properly." Jiang Zheng kept talking to his wife, but his gaze was fixed on their daughter in the distance.
Luo Ye walked up to Ye Xuan’s side and smiled at Jiang Yang. "Sister Jiang Yang, Uncle Jiang and Aunt Jiang are here—they’re looking for you."
"Really?" Jiang Yang put on a surprised expression. "When did they get here? I didn’t see them. Sigh, I don’t know anyone here, so I can only stick by Xiao Xuan."
"Sister Jiang Yang, none of us are stupid. If you can’t be with my brother, then it’s even more impossible with Ye Xuan. So I’d advise you to save your energy and stop wasting effort on this." Luo Ye said, looping her arm through Ye Xuan’s. "Did you forget what you promised my mom back then?"
"She hasn’t spoken to me and hasn’t affected my work." Ye Xuan’s face was full of helplessness too. Jiang Yang followed him around, deliberately saying nothing and not responding. He couldn’t just drive her away for no reason.
He knew perfectly well what she was after. But just as Luo Ye thought, Jiang Zheng was the person he respected most, and he really couldn’t harden his heart enough to throw Jiang Yang out.
"Come on, you’re not needed over here." Luo Ye said as she dragged Ye Xuan away. Only when they were far enough from Jiang Yang did she add, "I know it’s not your fault, and I know she’s been ignoring you on purpose—it’s just to get at me, because she thinks I’m not helping her. Sigh, she’s completely obsessed. Nothing we can do." (To be continued. If you like this work, you’re welcome to go to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote Recommendation ticket, monthly ticket.
