Chapter 82 Be Each Other's Angels

"You and Jiaoyang are friends too?"

How could someone be so schizophrenic as to be friends with themselves?! Sheng Jiaoyang chuckled at her own thoughts. Seeing Lin Yan looking at her, she coughed lightly and replied seriously, "Actually, she's my idol."

"So you're imitating Jiaoyang!" Lin Yan said with certainty.

Imitating herself? Sheng Jiaoyang burst into laughter as if she'd heard the funniest joke of the year.

Lin Yan frowned. Was he wrong? If it wasn't deliberate imitation, why were her actions so identical to Jiaoyang's? Even twins with telepathic connections couldn't do that, let alone two complete strangers.

After laughing, Sheng Jiaoyang said seriously, "If you think I'm imitating, then I am."

Hearing her say that, Lin Yan became even more uncertain, but even with uncertainty, he had no better reason to explain what he was seeing.

"You actually actively seek out drinks?" Sheng Jiaoyang looked at the wine glass in Lin Yan's hand.

Lin Yan sat down in the wicker chair, not answering her question.

Sheng Jiaoyang gazed at his still captivating face in the dim light of the balcony, and a sudden pang of sadness gripped her heart. Six years had passed since she first met him; from a naive and innocent liking to a deep and unforgettable love, from an instant attraction followed by relentless pursuit to the inevitable letting go, her carefree youth had blossomed and faded within this time.

"Do you like Sheng Jiaoyang?" she suddenly asked. Regardless of the response she sensed, she only wanted to hear the answer from his own lips.

"What does this have to do with you?"

Sheng Jiaoyang stared at him, saying, "This is what she's always wanted to know. Now that she's in trouble, I want to ask on her behalf."

Lin Yan silently drank his wine.

Sheng Jiaoyang chuckled softly, nodded, and said, "Okay, I understand." With that, she got up and went into Lin Na's room without looking back, closing the balcony door and drawing the curtains.

Lin Yan stared at the swaying hanging chair, lost in thought.

Lin Na came out of the bathroom and saw Sheng Jiaoyang lying on the bed, eyes wide open, lost in thought. "What's wrong?"

Sheng Jiaoyang sat up abruptly, making a hugging gesture towards Lin Na, his lips drooping. "Honey, I'm completely heartbroken."

"You broke up with my cousin?" Lin Na's eyes widened.

Sheng Jiaoyang rolled his eyes and withdrew his outstretched hand. Interrupted by Lin Na, the sadness he had just begun to build vanished instantly.

"Alright, let's go to sleep!"

Lin Na pounced on him. "Don't keep me in suspense, tell me how you're completely heartbroken?"

"Your brother's getting engaged, isn't that heartbreaking?" Sheng Jiaoyang, tickled, laughed as he spoke.

"But he was never even with you, so you've been heartbroken the whole time?" The sharp-tongued Lin Na was officially online.

"..." Sheng Jiaoyang was caught off guard.

Not to be outdone, Sheng Jiaoyang tickled back, like two childish kids, tickling each other back and forth, until finally, exhausted, they lay face to face.

“We’re both heartbroken now, we can form a heartbroken alliance,” Sheng Jiaoyang said.

Lin Na laughed, “We’re truly soulmates!”

They both laughed until tears streamed down their faces.

Lin Na reached out and hugged Sheng Jiaoyang, her voice slightly choked as she said, “This year marks our tenth anniversary of knowing each other.”

“We have many more decades to go…”

“Yes.” Lin Na nodded solemnly, extending her little finger, “Don’t forget, we promised to be each other’s angels. Even if we each have someone we love, we’ll still reserve the most important place in each other’s hearts.”

Sheng Jiaoyang hooked her little finger around Lin Na’s, and they made a pinky promise.

There’s always a kind of feeling in this world that transcends the boundaries of friendship, even surpassing the blood ties of kinship. This feeling is called mutual support, mutual appreciation, and is what I and my best friend are called.

The next morning, a phone call woke the two from their deep sleep.

When she saw the caller ID, Lin Na instantly woke up. She sat up abruptly, stared at her phone for two seconds, and watched the screen go dark.

"Why didn't you answer? Whose call was it?" Sheng Jiaoyang sat up, rubbing her eyes.

"George..."

"Huh?" Sheng Jiaoyang was a little confused.

Just then, the phone rang again. Lin Na hesitated for a moment, but still answered.

"Where are you?" George's voice came from the phone.

"I...where I am is none of your business now." There's only one situation where two people can remain friends after breaking up—they broke up because their feelings for each other had faded, but that wasn't the case for her and George.

"Tell me, where are you!" George's voice was tinged with anger.

Lin Na's eyes welled up with tears, and she hung up the phone immediately. Since they had broken up, she might as well cut ties cleanly; she wasn't someone who liked to linger on.

The phone rang again.

"What does George want from you again?" Sheng Jiaoyang frowned.

Lin Na took a deep breath, blinked to wipe away her tears, and turned to Sheng Jiaoyang with a smile, saying, "Never mind him, let's go out and have a good time today. Come with me to the film set in a couple of days, you haven't seen me act yet."

Sheng Jiaoyang raised an eyebrow, "You're a very busy person now."

"So, will you come with me?"

"Of course I'll accompany you, come on, beauty, give me a smile!" Sheng Jiaoyang said flirtatiously, hooking Lin Na's chin.

Lin Na chuckled and smiled.

After getting ready and saying goodbye to Lin Na's mother, the two friends went out hand in hand.

Lin Na drove her blue sports car, and was stopped as soon as she left the residential area.

Looking at the unshaven man blocking the car, Lin Na opened her mouth slightly, her face unable to hide her panic, and she gripped the steering wheel tightly.

"George?" Sheng Jiaoyang also looked surprised.

George loosened his tie, walked to the driver's side door, forced a stiff smile, and said to Lin Na, "Get out, I want to talk to you."

"How did you know I was home?" Lin Na didn't move, but just looked up at him and asked.

"Location." George waved his phone. "At a time like this, you still care about these things?"

Lin Na pursed her lips, "Weren't you attending a seminar in London? Why are you back?"

"Didn't you ask me to come?"

"Me?" Lin Na looked suspicious.

“You called me last night,” George said confidently.

Linna turned to look at Sheng Jiaoyang, who shook his head, indicating he didn’t know. She pulled out her phone to check her call log and indeed found a call to George. She raised her hand to her forehead, tucked her stray hair behind her ear, looked up at George, and said, “I drank last night, and what I said and did while drunk can’t be attributed to me. George, I’m sorry to have bothered you.” George

was silent for a few seconds, then asked in a low voice, “Linna, can we talk this over?”

“Is there any point in talking? We’ve already broken up, and you were the one who initiated it! Besides, you have a new girlfriend. It’s not good for anyone if we continue to get involved,” Linna said, her emotions running high.

“No.”

“What?” Hearing George’s seemingly unrelated words, Linna was taken aback.

“I said I don’t have a new girlfriend right now,” George said, looking at Linna with a deep gaze.

Linna's expression returned to calm, and she replied indifferently, "That's your business."

Sheng Jiaoyang, unable to bear it any longer, asked George, "Why did you break up with my beauty?"

George frowned; one Sheng Jiaoyang had left, and now this guy had appeared out of nowhere. "That's none of your business!" he said coldly.

Linna stepped on the gas, and the car sped away, leaving George standing there, bewildered and confused, not knowing how he had offended Linna.
