Rebirth of the Fierce, Pampered Wife
Chapter 411 - 407: Uneasy
Chapter 411: Chapter 407: Uneasy
"Huh?" Gu Nuan Nuan looked at Luo Hongyi incredulously. "You can’t be serious. You don’t know about the Cultivation World?"
"Should I?" Luo Hongyi asked, puzzled.
"You’ve been on the internet before, haven’t you? How could you have never come across a single web novel? After all the things I’ve shown you, you should have been able to guess by now, right?" Gu Nuan Nuan was at a loss for words. ’Does this guy really never read a lighthearted web novel just to relax?’
Web novels?
Seeing Gu Nuan Nuan’s rather disdainful look, Luo Hongyi couldn’t help but rub his nose and give a wry, embarrassed smile.
’Of course, I used the internet a lot back then, but when would I have had time to read web novels? Any browsing I did was mostly related to military affairs and Weapons; after all, that’s what I was interested in. So, I’d really never come across things like web novels or Cultivators before. Maybe once I get a computer, I can find a web novel about Cultivators to read.’
"Forget it. If you don’t know, you don’t know. It’s not the first time I’ve realized how boring you are, anyway. Honestly, I have no idea how you can read about military affairs and Weapons all day long and not find it incredibly dull."
Gu Nuan Nuan shook her head. The thought of all of Luo Hongyi’s questions gave her a headache, but she patiently began to explain. She started with how she had accidentally found the Heritage Mansion belonging to the master before Cao Cao’s last one, and how she’d become a Cultivator. She then gave Luo Hongyi a detailed explanation of what the Cultivation World was, covering the important points she knew, before showing him her mining tools and some of the Magic Treasures she could use.
Luo Hongyi listened, completely engrossed, and watched with intense focus, even picking up a mining tool to try it out. His eyes betrayed a fervent yearning for Cultivation he couldn’t suppress. But in the end, he restrained himself, not even asking Gu Nuan Nuan to test his Spirit Root. Finally, Gu Nuan Nuan couldn’t bear to see him like that. After a moment’s hesitation, she took out the Spirit Testing Stone. "Why don’t you test your Spirit Root, too?"
"There’s no need. Since our Water Blue Star has no Spiritual Energy, we can’t practice Cultivation, so it’s pointless for me to test my Spirit Root. If I did have one, it would just become another burden on my mind. It’s better not to know and not to think about it." Luo Hongyi hesitated for a moment before firmly refusing. "Resources are limited. It’s better to focus them all on you."
Seeing that he was serious and knowing it wouldn’t be easy to change his mind, Gu Nuan Nuan finally nodded. She didn’t press the issue and put the item away. "If you ever change your mind and get curious, you can always ask me to test you."
"Really, there’s no need. Since traveling the world is your dream, I can’t be so selfish as to stop you from going. Then again... after you marry me and we have kids, you won’t have any time either. And then we’d have to wait until the children are all grown up... I’m afraid only then would I have the time to travel with you..."
"I can travel just fine on my own. I don’t need you with me," Gu Nuan Nuan said dismissively, cutting him off.
Fine.
Knowing that Gu Nuan Nuan had more than enough ability to protect herself, Luo Hongyi felt much more at ease about her traveling around, but at the same time, he couldn’t help but feel a renewed sense of disappointment.
’But feeling disappointed was useless. He knew he couldn’t oppose her. He could see that in this lifetime, Gu Nuan Nuan was no longer the person who would obey his every command—the one who would ultimately compromise no matter how unwilling she was, just because he’d asked. So, from now on, it would be his turn to be the one to yield to her.’
However—
Luo Hongyi asked, "You can’t just keep using Invisibility Talismans to cross national borders, right? This gold mine is protected by an Array, so no one else can get in. This stuff isn’t going anywhere, and you don’t need a large amount right now. Why don’t you come back with us this time? I’ll find a way to get you some passports so you can travel openly in the future."
"You don’t have to worry about the passports. My uncle already found someone to take care of it—the Mu Family from Beijing. I expect they’ll be about ready by the time I’ve mined all the Spirit Stones here and head back," Gu Nuan Nuan said, shaking her head. ’The Mu Family is helping, so there’s no need to involve Luo Hongyi. Besides, it wouldn’t be easy for him to arrange it, and it would cost him a lot of effort.’
"Mu Zhe from the Mu Family in Beijing?" As soon as the words left Gu Nuan Nuan’s mouth, Luo Hongyi made the connection. "The person your uncle saved all those years ago was Old Master Mu, wasn’t it? But... isn’t his time supposed to be up very soon? Does Mu Zhe really have the bandwidth to handle your passport issue right now?"
"How do you even remember that?" Gu Nuan Nuan looked at Luo Hongyi, incredulous. "But things are different now. I had my grandfather send a jar of the Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment to Old Master Mu, so he’s doing great. He’s got at least another twenty years of good health in him."
"I see. In that case, things are bound to be very different for the Mu Family from now on." Luo Hongyi nodded. He glanced down, saw Gu Nuan Nuan’s expression, and smiled. "It’s nothing. I just happened to read an article about Old Master Mu’s life story a while back, which is how I remembered he was supposed to pass away this year. I never thought you’d be the one to change his fate. Since even someone in his condition could recover by using your medicine, there’s no way to keep this a secret. Everyone will be trying to find you."
His brow furrowed as he looked at Gu Nuan Nuan with concern. "You have too many secrets. For now, don’t reveal anything else besides the Hundred Herbs Rejuvenating Ointment. Fortunately, my four team members are trustworthy. None of them are children of aristocratic families, so they won’t face the difficult position of having to report this to their clans... It seems that in this lifetime, I’ll have to strive for a noble title, just like them, and turn our family into one of the great aristocratic families of the Alliance. I have to be the one standing at the top to protect you. I can’t ever be at ease entrusting your safety to others, relying only on the Shao and Mu families."
"I’ll be fine, and the Zhang family will be fine, too. I’m not afraid of the consequences of the things I choose to reveal. I’m a firm believer that ’in the face of absolute power, all schemes and plots are useless.’ You, on the other hand... I think you should just develop at the same pace you did in your last life. That’s good enough.
If you hadn’t grown so disheartened and given up on everything back then, another powerful aristocratic family might have risen in Beijing. So don’t try to develop any faster. You’re already moving quickly enough. Are you planning to get ahead by constantly risking your life? Take it easy. If you die, I might actually be happier, because then I won’t have to leap into your family’s pit of fire."
"You..." Luo Hongyi looked at Gu Nuan Nuan with a resigned sigh. "Do you really have to say such heartless things when you’re just trying to show you’re worried?"
"Most people don’t like to hear the truth," Gu Nuan Nuan said with a dry laugh. "It’s getting late. You should hurry and pack all this away so we can head back to the creek. We don’t want them to get anxious from waiting."
Luo Hongyi was also worried about making Qi Guoqing and the others anxious, so he quickly packed away the Gold, and the two of them hurried back the way they came.
