Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord
Chapter 2733: Golden Key
She then remembered, if you bite gold with external force, it will deform. Xuexue couldn’t help but babble, "Prince, even though you have a lot of gold, you shouldn’t use it to make keys. Golden keys may look nice, but they’re not practical. One careless move and there could be problems. Aren’t you just causing trouble for yourself by doing this?"
Long Rui laughed repeatedly and said, "Remiss, remiss, hahaha...!"
In the past, his subordinates felt that a golden key matched the Prince’s status, so they forged it from gold. Later, they discovered this drawback and planned to make another key in a different material. But since that subordinate got into trouble and died, the golden key became the only one.
Using this golden key requires patience; you must be very gentle with it. Otherwise, with one forceful twist it might break, and with the key stuck inside, it would be a disaster. At that point, you wouldn’t be able to enter the Treasure Pavilion and retrieve the treasures inside, leaving you nothing but anxious.
Xuexue glanced at the other keys on the table and asked, "What are those keys for?"
Long Rui stretched out his arm, grabbed the keys on the table, handed them to Xuexue, and said with a smile, "These are the Mansion’s keys. Naturally, they should be entrusted to my woman; it’s the only way I’ll feel at ease."
Upon hearing this, Xuexue’s expression instantly drooped. She was pleased to accept the Treasure Pavilion’s key because, after all, what woman doesn’t like treasures? But the keys to the Mansion? No thank you. She didn’t want to be the steward of the War Prince’s Mansion all day; she had plenty of her own businesses to manage.
As for her promise to Long Rui not to go to Qinger Building earlier, she never agreed not to go to other shops. Xuexue had already come up with a plan to deal with Long Rui.
Xuexue glanced at the keys with disdain, "No way!"
"Dear, you’re the mistress of the War Prince’s Mansion. How can you not manage the household affairs, right?"
Long Rui was calculating how to keep Xuexue busy with mundane household tasks, so she wouldn’t have time to roam around, let alone visit the land of fireworks.
Xuexue pouted and complained, "Prince, honestly, the steward manages the Mansion just fine. Why would you take back the keys?"
The most important point, Xuexue didn’t voice; she was inwardly criticizing, Prince, aren’t you just creating trouble for me by doing this?
Long Rui was plotting his own schemes, soothing her gently, "No matter how well the steward manages, he’s still an outsider. I can only feel at ease if my dear takes care of the Mansion’s matters, big or small."
Outside the room, the steward was waiting, feeling like crying without tears after hearing the Prince’s words. He was silently screaming, Prince, I have been loyal to you, exhausted both mind and body for the Mansion, until my hair turned white. Now, just to please the Princess Consort, you claim you’re uneasy with me. I’m not a thief; aren’t your words hurtful?
However, Long Rui was solely focused on pleasing his dear wife, oblivious to what he might be thinking. Even if he were aware, he would probably ignore it.
Inside the room, Xuexue pouted and said, "I don’t want to."
Long Rui, "What’s the matter? Is my dear reneging on her promise?"
His wife had just accepted the Treasure Pavilion’s key and promised not to visit Qinger Building. What was going on? They hadn’t even warmed the keys in her embrace before she was reneging?
Xuexue flashed a cunning smile and said, "Who said that?"
Long Rui tilted his head, scrutinizing her, rubbing his chin with one hand, full of curiosity, "I think you look exactly like that."
Xuexue, "Am I that kind of person?"
Long Rui gave a half-smile, "Aren’t you?"
Xuexue spoke loudly, "Of course not."
Long Rui nodded with satisfaction, "That’s better. Dear, remember what you said today!"
Xuexue patted her chest, earnestly swore, "Prince, rest assured, this Princess Consort is young and beautiful, far from having memory loss!"
Long Rui looked at her, showing a captivating smile that could kill, "That’s better."
