Wan Ruhua shook her head. "Once Camp Commander Feng returns, he’ll definitely come by to thank you in person. If you hadn’t acted fast that day, I don’t even want to think about what might have happened."

Yunyi quickly waved her hand. "We’re all neighbors living together here. If something happens of course we’re supposed to help out. No need for all that formality."

The two chatted for a bit more before finally going their separate ways.

On the other side, Huo Jingrui was leading a team through the deep mountains. "Liu Cheng, bring the map over."

"Boss, are you sure we’re not heading in the wrong direction?"

Huo Jingrui took the map and examined it carefully. "Let’s go a few miles further. Once we cross the river, we’ll reach the designated location. Everyone, rest here for a bit. Let’s try to push through and get to the target spot on time."

While everyone sat down to rest, Huo Jingrui kept his eyes on the map, then pulled out his compass to confirm their bearings. Only then did he take some rations from his backpack and start eating.

But all he could think about was Yunyi. He had promised that he wouldn’t be out on any more missions for a while, that he’d take care of her. In the end, he’d broken his word.

Just thinking about her morning sickness this time made his heart ache.

He wondered how she’s been these days. Was she eating well?

Liu Cheng, seeing him like this, nudged him with his elbow. "Missing your wife already?"

Huo Jingrui didn’t deny it, taking a big bite of his rations. "Yeah. She just moved into the family quarters, and I’m already out on duty. It does worry me."

Liu Cheng stuffed the rest of his rations into his mouth. "Don’t worry, with her skills, your wife could take care of herself anywhere."

He finished his rations quickly, washed them down with half a canteen of water, and then dug out some dried meat from his pack, handing a couple pieces to Liu Cheng. "Your sister-in-law made these."

"Oh right, didn’t your family arrange a marriage for you? You’re not that young anymore, time you settled down."

"Yeah. When we get back I’ll apply for housing, then take some leave to bring her here."
