The ancient blue lines beneath the forest began glowing one after another.

The energy traveled through the ground like a pulse.

Then dozens.

The entire forest seemed to wake beneath their paws.

The ancient markings continued for several kilometers, but the ground eventually rose sharply toward a massive frozen plateau. From there, the entire northern region became visible.

Moonveil stood beyond the mountains.

Its familiar silver-blue glow was barely visible through the storm.

But something else had changed.

The clouds above it were moving strangely.

They spiraled toward the mountain instead of away from it.

Ash stared.

"That’s not normal."

Kael shook his head.

"No."

Aren looked at the sky.

Ash watched the clouds.

Ash slowly looked around.

The entire mountain range seemed to be answering.

Then silence.

The Unknown Species suddenly raised its head.

Its entire body became tense.

The enormous shadows across the valley also stopped moving.

For several seconds, nothing happened.

Then the ground beneath Ash shifted.

Not violently.

Almost gently.

As though something enormous had turned in its sleep.

Ash looked down.

His relic was glowing brighter than he had ever seen.

Kael whispered, "No."

Ash looked at him.

"What?"

Kael’s eyes were fixed on Moonveil.

"It heard the creature."

Ash looked toward the distant mountain.

"What heard it?"

Kael didn’t answer.

Ash’s eyes widened.

It had fallen again.

Ash’s expression became serious.

The ancient creature across the valley suddenly released a low sound.

It was quieter.

Almost mournful.

The shadows opposite it began retreating.

The Unknown Species looked toward Moonveil one final time.

Then it disappeared into the storm.

Ash took one step forward.

"We have to follow."

Kael immediately blocked him.

"No."

Ash looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because we don’t know what is waiting there."

Ash stared toward the valley.

"Neither does it."

Kael’s expression changed.

He pointed toward the fading silhouette.

"It isn’t walking toward Moonveil because it wants something."

Aren understood.

"It’s going because it has nowhere else to go."

Ash nodded.

The creature wasn’t conquering.

It wasn’t hunting.

It was surviving.

And whatever had forced it toward Moonveil was still somewhere behind them.

Ash looked toward the three enormous footprints they had discovered earlier.

Then toward the dark shadows.

Then toward the ancient network glowing beneath the mountains.

The pieces still didn’t fit.

But they were getting closer.

The Unknown Species had crossed this territory before.

It knew the ancient energy.

It was injured.

Something had attacked it.

Something else was waiting ahead.

And now the thing beneath Moonveil had started responding.

Ash touched the black relic.

Ash stared at the final line.

For the first time, he wondered whether the System understood the entire situation.

Perhaps it did.

Perhaps it didn’t.

He looked toward Aren.

"We’re not attacking it yet."

Aren nodded.

Kael looked surprised.

Ash continued.

"We follow it."

The old Silver Lynx studied him.

"Why?"

Ash looked toward Moonveil.

"Because if something is powerful enough to make that creature run..."

His eyes narrowed.

"Then I want to know what it is before I put my claws into the wrong target."

Kael remained silent.

The snow began falling harder.

The Moonfang appeared beside Ash.

Its glowing eyes were fixed on the distant mountain.

Then something happened.

They were much farther away.

Much deeper.

And they disappeared almost immediately.

Ash’s body went still.

Then the mountain trembled again.

This time, the sound came from beneath their paws.
