Yang Dong’s pickiness in choosing a wife is well-known. He’s seen many girls but didn’t like any of them. After the incident with Xiaocui, folks wondered if Yang Dong had an affair with the Li Family’s daughter, otherwise why would the two of them go up the mountain together.

The women’s table was even more so. Seeing the wives of the Yang Family’s eldest and second, they first praised their families for picking good spouses, then praised how well they married since their husbands are reliable and willing to work hard. If not, they’d praise the kids—how they’re good in school and well-behaved.

When they saw Yang Ming’s mother, they’d also praise her good daughters-in-law, her good sons and daughters, and her lovely grandkids.

The Yang Family was practically floating on the village’s praise, almost getting a bit swollen-headed.

Fortunately, they were aware that it was just talk.

That’s how social customs are; when someone hosts a celebration, everyone says nice and auspicious things. You can’t take it too seriously, believing it too much to lose sense of direction.

After staying outside for a short while, Old Yang and Yang Ming’s mother went inside because there were important guests who needed proper hosting.

Inside were the Village Chief and several respected elders from the village, as well as relatives from the daughters-in-law’s families. As they entered and saw everyone beaming with smiles, they knew the guests were very satisfied with the arrangements.
