Chapter 1942: Chapter 1944: But You’re Marrying for the First Time
She never expected to find Wang Kui in the washroom instead of her older brother.
Luckily, Wang Kui was fully dressed, seemingly just there to wash his face and nothing else.
She hadn’t thought much before lighting the candle because the washroom was where family usually washed hands, faces, and feet; bathing was done in the bathroom.
"Didn’t, didn’t scare you, did I?" Wang Kui was startled when he saw Yang Qiu, his words stumbling a bit.
He considered himself a very alert person, with exceptionally keen hearing.
Yet, when Yang Qiu entered, he didn’t notice.
By the time Yang Qiu spoke and the candle was lit, they were already looking at each other.
"You didn’t scare me, I thought it was my brother. Why didn’t you light a candle?"
Yang Qiu genuinely thought it was her brother, having encountered him several times, washing in the dark without lighting a candle.
"I came over to wash my face and wasn’t familiar with this room. I didn’t know where the candles were, so I didn’t light one. I figured from dinner I had a rough idea of where the water jar was, so I thought I’d wash up in the dark. I didn’t expect you to come in."
"Oh!" Yang Qiu only responded with an ’oh’, not knowing what else to say, so she just stood there silently.
The atmosphere in the room instantly became tense, and Wang Kui felt he was in a dilemma, whether to leave or not.
Since they’d already encountered each other, he decided to speak up. Looking at Yang Qiu, he said, "About what happened at the dining table earlier, I was a bit abrupt. Bringing up marriage in front of so many people put you in an awkward spot, and I apologize for that."
Yang Qiu stood there with her head down, her already flushed face burning even hotter listening to those words.
Although Yang Qiu hung her head low, Wang Kui could still see it. Wang Kui was a straightforward person in everything he did and thought it better to discuss it directly. After all, no one else was around; it was better to be embarrassed now than in front of everyone later.
And to be honest, saying these words made him quite shy too, as he had never said them before.
"Yang Qiu, I meant it when I said I wanted to marry you. Rest assured, I will treat you well."
Yang Qiu remained silent, just thinking Wang Kui was unusually talkative today. In Lin County, he barely spoke, like a Door God, giving a sense of reassurance just by standing there silently.
"I know bringing this up is a bit sudden, and you need time to think about it. I will give you the time you need. You can say yes whenever you’re ready, and I’ll wait."
Wang Kui spoke with confidence, as if it were only a matter of time before Yang Qiu would agree.
Seeing Yang Qiu still looking down without a word, Wang Kui felt at a loss and finally said, "Then you can wash up first. I’ll head back."
It was then that Yang Qiu looked up at Wang Kui, her small mouth opened and closed as she called, "Brother Wang!"
Wang Kui was just about to leave, but upon hearing Yang Qiu’s voice, he stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her, "Yang Qiu, go ahead."
Yang Qiu took a deep breath and voiced what she had been wanting to say, "Brother Wang, thank you for wanting to marry me, but I hope you consider this carefully. You shouldn’t marry me because of rumors. You know I’m not a virgin, I’ve had a child, and I might not be able to have more children in the future. Besides, this would be your first marriage..."
At this point, Yang Qiu paused, "Actually, the rumors will soon pass, and you don’t have to marry me because of them."
