Chapter 1960: Chapter 1962: News by Year’s End for Sure!
Seeing Yang Dong come in, Xiaoxiao really broke out in a cold sweat for him.
Isn’t Yang Dong basically walking right into the line of fire?
Just now Yang Qiu almost postponed her own wedding because Yang Dong hasn’t gotten married yet; his mother-in-law-to-be is still mad about that.
And now he delivers himself to her door like this, how could that end well?
Sure enough, as soon as Yang Ming’s mother saw Yang Dong, she wanted to lecture him, but with Wang Kui there she felt a bit embarrassed, so she said, "Xiaoqiu, you two came back from the County, did you eat dinner? If you haven’t, let your sisters-in-law whip something up."
Once she said that, Yang Qiu and Wang Kui suddenly realized they were hungry. Ever since they got back from the County, the two of them had been in that excited state and had completely forgotten about hunger.
Now that she mentioned it, they finally felt it. Yang Qiu glanced at Wang Kui, figured he probably hadn’t eaten either, so she said, "We haven’t eaten, we forgot."
When Yang Ming’s mother heard that, she scolded, "Look at you, child."
Then she told a few daughters-in-law to go cook. This counted as a late-night snack; either way they had to put together a full table.
Once the daughters-in-law had all gone out, Yang Ming’s mother spoke again, "Xiaoqiu, take Wang Kui to the guest room. While you’re at it, tidy up the room for him. Later you can just go straight to the dining hall to eat."
"Okay."
Yang Qiu agreed and took Wang Kui away.
The room instantly was left with just the old couple and the four brothers.
Yang Dong stood there feeling utterly baffled. What on earth had happened, why was nobody answering him?
And what kind of looks were his three older brothers giving him?
What did he do now?
"Uh, if there’s nothing else, I’ll head back too!" He turned to leave.
But how could Yang Ming’s mother let him go? She’d been waiting to grab him.
"Where do you think you’re going? Your brother-in-law’s here; later you’ve gotta stay and drink with him a bit."
"..." Brother-in-law?
So she meant things between that Wang Kui and Xiaoqiu had been settled?
Before he could ask, Yang Ming’s mother shot him a look. "It almost fell through, all because of you."
"..." Yang Dong felt like he still hadn’t fully woken up. Was his way of showing up wrong or something? What the hell did this have to do with him? He wasn’t even familiar with that Wang Kui, didn’t know him at all.
"Just now Xiaoqiu said she’s not getting married yet. She wants to wait until after you get married before she does. So I’m asking you: when exactly are you getting married?"
No matter how angry she got, Yang Ming’s mother wasn’t the shrewish type who’d grab a shoe and start beating her sons. She’d always been soft-tempered; it was hard for her to toughen up, so her tone was still fairly gentle.
Even so, when it fell on Yang Dong’s ears, he could still hear that his mother’s temper had been getting shorter lately, more irritable.
He figured he should go along with her, so he said, "Mom, calm down. I’ll talk to Xiaoqiu and make sure she doesn’t wait for me. She can go ahead and get married first."
What he said left Yang Ming’s mother a bit speechless. "By the time you go talk to her, the cucumbers will be cold. It’s already settled. Your sister’s getting married on the twenty-eighth at the end of this month. The stone in my heart has finally dropped. Your older sister’s situation is settled too. You’re the only one left. Tell me, when is your stone going to drop? Give your mom a definite answer, okay?"
Yang Dong was helpless. How was he supposed to give any definite answer?
It had already been almost half a year since he confessed, and there was still no reply from Li Chuntao.
He’d been busy with the shop the whole time, so he hadn’t rushed it. Only recently had he started having more contact with Li Chuntao, showing his face in front of her quite a few times—helping with this and that, basically courting her—but there still hadn’t been any results.
If he said all that out loud, wouldn’t he just make his mom explode? So he answered honestly, "There’ll definitely be news by the end of the year!"
