Chapter 2038: Chapter 2040: Confession

A while later, Li Fugui finally came upstairs.

Amo opened the door and called respectfully, "Eldest Young Master."

This form of address, "Eldest Young Master," Li Fugui hadn’t heard in a long time.

Li Fugui walked in just like that, went straight to sit by the bed. There was no gloating on his face, only calm.

"What are you planning to do from now on?"

Such a question left Li Fuyou very surprised—surprised that he was so calm. He’d done so many evil things; shouldn’t Fugui be raising a fuss right now, beating and cursing him?

He couldn’t help asking, "You don’t hate me?"

"Of course I hate you!" Li Fugui answered without hesitation.

How could he not hate the man who killed his father and mother, who drove Xiaotian away and tore their family of three apart for so many years?

He wished he could hack him to pieces, tear him apart by horses.

But seeing him now, sick to this point, almost at death’s door...

His heart simply couldn’t stay hard. After all, this was his half-brother, flesh and blood.

That he’d ended up like this could be counted as his retribution.

Seeing that Li Fuyou said nothing, Li Fugui went on asking, "What illness is it exactly? Is it really beyond help?"

Li Fuyou spoke weakly, "I don’t know what it is. Anyway, it’s terminal. Living one day is one day."

"Have you gone to Medicine King Valley? There are many Divine Doctors there. Maybe they can cure you."

Li Fuyou shook his head. "I’ve been. There’s no saving me."

Amo stood to the side, listening to the two of them talk, his eyes growing red. The Eldest Young Master wasn’t blaming the young master—Eldest Young Master was truly too kind.

To say this outcome wasn’t expected would be a lie, but Li Fugui wasn’t magnanimous enough to forgive him.

He stood up and said, "Since it’s like this, go wherever you want to go, have a look. Use the time you have left!"

With that, he turned to leave.

But just then, Li Fuyou dropped to his knees with a thud.

The last of his pride was finally stripped away by a few simple words from Li Fugui.

"Big Brother, I was wrong. All these years, I shouldn’t have gone against you. I shouldn’t have framed you and sent you to prison just to fight over the inheritance, shouldn’t have made Father drive you out."

"And to seize the estate, I went mad with greed and fed Father those drugs, which led to Auntie killing herself at the doorway."

"I even forced away that Little Maid you liked, drove you into a dead end!"

"And that Miss Wang—when I saw her helping you, I hired people to teach her a lesson."

"I was wrong. I’ve done things that heaven itself cannot tolerate. Now I’m finally facing my retribution."

"..."

"..."

As Li Fuyou listed his sins, his already weak body was wracked with coughs as he spoke. His voice carried a sobbing tremor—he was as pitiful as one could be.

Amo knelt down beside him too, calling "young master, young master."

Li Fugui, with his back to Li Fuyou, felt his own eyes redden.

These things were a pain he would carry in his heart forever—especially the death of his parents, which could never be undone.

"Big Brother, I’m already a man about to die. I’m not asking for your forgiveness. I came back just to see what you’ve made of the Li Family. Back then I ruined the Li Family; seeing today that you’ve made it so prosperous, I can die content. Once I’m down there, I’ll definitely seek out Father and Auntie to beg forgiveness properly!"

At this, Li Fugui finally turned back around. "What use is there in you saying all this now? Can it bring Father and Auntie back to life? No. That you’ve come to this point is Heaven’s punishment for you. The reason I’m not sending you to the government office today is only for the sake of the fact that we were once brothers. Go. Before I change my mind, find a place and live out the days you have left as best you can."
