Reborn As Super Heiress
Chapter 2408 - 2311: Rescue
When Zhou Shitao heard what Bai Buzhi said, he immediately asked:
"Mr. Bai, can you break this formation?"
Bai Buzhi smiled, glanced over at Huo Sining, and said:
"Good thing I came down with some preparations, looks like these people’s lives aren’t meant to end yet. That piece of Mutton Fat Jade you took out this time really came in handy. If it weren’t for your top-grade jade, I’d say these people would be done for!"
Even as he said that, Bai Buzhi didn’t slack off for a second. His hands moved quickly as he began his preparations, pulling all sorts of unrecognizable items from his Hundred Treasures Box, including various pieces of Talisman Paper and Cinnabar and whatnot. Huo Sining watched until she was almost dizzy, totally unable to make sense of the pattern.
Though everyone was confused, even harboring some doubts about this fraud who looked like he was putting on a shaman show, seeing the grim expressions on Zhou Shitao, Huo Sining, and even Xie Daoyuan’s faces, at this point no one dared to ignorantly raise any objections.
They all stared unblinkingly at Bai Buzhi’s hands, quite eager to see what exactly this old charlatan was trying to do.
Only Zhou Shitao, Xie Daoyuan and the others, having witnessed Bai Buzhi dispel a Gathering Yin Formation in Fucheng before, had some idea of this seemingly deranged old Taoist’s abilities, so right now they didn’t doubt anything Bai Buzhi did.
The old man’s hand movements looked random, but in fact all had meaning. Zhou Shitao and the others didn’t understand, but that didn’t stop them from cooperating with Bai Buzhi’s work.
Very soon, Bai Buzhi was ready. He then signaled for Huo Sining over there to hand him the lively, jumping rooster.
Huo Sining passed the rooster to Bai Buzhi. The old man took it, drew out a dagger, grabbed the rooster by the head and slashed down. A jet of blood sprayed out like an arrow, landing straight on the piece of Jade Talisman he held in his hand.
At the same time, Bai Buzhi held some kind of oil in his other hand and poured it directly over the pile of cinnabar he’d previously scattered on the ground. Then, quick as a flash, he threw out the Jade Talisman now stained with the rooster’s fresh blood.
What happened next left everyone present feeling utterly flabbergasted.
At the instant the Jade Talisman flew out, the Talisman Papers he had slapped all over the main burial chamber door suddenly ignited, and the cinnabar on the ground also caught fire. In the blink of an eye, the entire stone gate was engulfed in roaring flames.
Yet although the flames burned fiercely, the people standing near the door didn’t feel the slightest heat. On the contrary, a wave of chilly yin air rushed at them, forcing everyone to involuntarily take a step back.
And as those flames raged higher, the previously empty main burial chamber slowly began to reveal its true form.
A huge, ornate coffin appeared before them. Around the coffin, Director He and the other archaeological staff who had rushed in earlier were all there—but they were clearly in some kind of possessed state. They flailed and cavorted like madmen; some were stabbing at themselves over and over with shovels or knives. All of them were in a disheveled, crazed condition, looking both eerie and insane.
"Director!" A few staffers saw the ten-plus-centimeter gash on Director He’s arm and gasped, instinctively wanting to rush forward.
They hadn’t taken a single step before Huo Sining, quick-eyed and quick-handed, blocked them.
Bai Buzhi also turned back coldly and glared at the rash staffers, barking:
"If you don’t want them dead, get the hell back! Can’t you see I’m busy here?"
The staffers were stunned speechless by Bai Buzhi’s roar. None of them dared make another reckless move.
Huo Sining was long used to Bai Buzhi’s sharp tongue and didn’t find it strange at all. She hurried to reassure the anxious people standing nearby:
"Don’t worry, Mr. Bai can handle it. No need to panic yet, it’ll be okay soon. You guys get ready—once they’re released, we have to rush them to the hospital for treatment as fast as possible!"
Thanks to Huo Sining’s calm reminder, the staff who had been in a panic finally came to their senses. They nodded and stopped moving around blindly, turning away to hurriedly start preparing to receive the injured.
On Bai Buzhi’s side, his work continued. At some point he had another handful of Talisman Paper and Cinnabar in his grasp, which he kept tossing toward the Jade Talisman hanging in midair. The moment those papers and cinnabar touched the talisman, they burst into flame.
As more Talisman Paper and Cinnabar were thrown, the Jade Talisman burned hotter and redder, and Director He and the other staff members inside became more and more distinct. Their crazed movements gradually began to slow.
This went on for a good ten minutes. Inside the tomb, no one dared speak. Everyone held their breath, afraid of disturbing Bai Buzhi’s workings, their eyes fixed and unblinking on the bizarre scene before them.
Just when people were starting to wonder if this was going to go on forever, they suddenly heard Bai Buzhi let out a loud shout as he flung the last handful of Talisman Paper and Cinnabar toward the suspended talisman.
The Jade Talisman shuddered violently as if provoked, emitting a buzzing sound. Then everyone heard a loud "boom" as it exploded, shattering in an instant into countless fragments that scattered in all directions!
Before the shards could reach the onlookers, they burned to ash in midair, leaving not a trace behind.
At this moment, everyone instinctively looked toward the main burial chamber. The staffers who had been trapped in that nightmare state now seemed to have lost whatever was sustaining them. One by one, they collapsed to the ground, each falling into unconsciousness, with no more sign of their previous frenzy.
A strong stench of blood filled the air. All of them were drenched in blood, the sight gruesome to the extreme.
Bai Buzhi let out a long breath of relief. His face had turned pale, and he staggered slightly a few times. After panting for a moment, he turned back and shot a look at the staffers who had wanted to charge in to rescue people earlier, saying:
"What are you standing around for? Go save them, now! The formation’s already broken!"
The staffers were a bit dazed. They froze for a few seconds before reacting, then rushed into the tomb in a flurry, not caring about anything else—first priority was to get the unconscious people out.
By then, ambulances were already waiting outside. In a frantic scramble, everyone carefully carried out Director He and the others. After the medical staff confirmed that they were only suffering from temporary fainting due to excessive blood loss, with no danger to their lives, Zhou Shitao and the others finally relaxed.
