Reborn as the Blissful Wife in the countryside
Chapter 1659: Keep Pretending
Chapter 1659: Chapter 1659: Keep Pretending
Gu Jinli listened with a twitching smile... Your face sure changes fast.
Luo Ying ignored her indescribable expression, grabbed Qin San Lang’s hand, and said to Gu Jinli: "Your cousin should have given birth; you’re going to be uncle and aunt. Excited, right? Hurry back and prepare a gift so I can take it with me when I leave the day after tomorrow for your little nephew or niece."
Luo Ying married a girl from Qin San Lang’s grandfather’s family, who was over four years older than Qin San Lang. Initially, this cousin was supposed to marry his second brother, but his second brother was scared to death hearing his uncle wanted to marry his daughter off to him, and he fled to the Luo Family, never to return.
When Luo Ying found out that Yu Family’s desired son-in-law was Qin Er, he was enraged and gave Qin Er a beating.
Luo Ying had already set his sights on Cousin Yu since he was enlightened and often used his connection with the Qin Family to visit the Yu Family. He was waiting for her coming-of-age ceremony to have the elders propose marriage.
Who would’ve thought that the fool of an uncle from the Yu Family would target Qin Er? It left Luo Ying furious!
Though he and Qin Er were close comrades, if Qin Er dared to compete for his wife, he’d certainly put an end to Qin Er.
Qin Er was unjustly treated; he never fancied Cousin Yu. It was the uncle who had gone crazy. Why beat up this dead camel, dead bird for nothing? Was he looking to sever ties?
Qin Er was even more reckless than Luo Ying. After being beaten by Luo Ying, he devised a plan. Knowing the Yu Family was going to the hot spring manor, he assumed the identity of a nephew and took Luo Ying there, creating an opportunity to have Luo Ying and Cousin Yu run into each other at the hot spring.
Qin Er seized the chance to call in the Yu Family protector to treat Luo Ying like a lecher and gave him a good beating, thus venting the anger of being hit by Luo Ying.
This commotion caused the relatives from the Gong Family to be drawn in.
When Aunt Yu and her maternal relatives saw the situation and heard Qin Er’s embellishments, they knew Cousin Yu could only marry Luo Ying.
Fortunately, Luo Ying genuinely liked Cousin Yu, and Cousin Yu, persistently harassed and gifted by him, understood his intentions and felt the same. After discussing between the three families, Luo Ying and Cousin Yu’s marriage was settled.
Uncle Yu was very pleased with this union; regardless of marrying into the Qin or Luo Family, his Yu Family benefitted.
However, Qin Er didn’t get off lightly; he nearly ruined Cousin Yu’s reputation, and along with Luo Ying, he was beaten by the elders of the Luo and Qin families. Then he was punished to copy the entire Great Chu Criminal Law, almost wearing out their hands.
"Yes, our couple will certainly prepare a gift for Brother Luo to take back to the little nephew." Qin San Lang was delighted; Cousin Yu was one of his few relatives, gentle and quiet, much like his mother. Marrying Brother Luo made him even happier. Holding Luo Ying’s hand, he said, "Congratulations, Brother Luo, on becoming a father."
"Haha, it’s indeed one of life’s great joys!" Luo Ying was thrilled; this was a child he’d hoped for many years to have, and now it could also ease Jiaojiao’s worries.
He glanced at Gu Jinli, wanting to urge her but refrained from speaking rudely, changing his tune: "I’ve had a table set up, stay for dinner, eat and then leave."
Qin San Lang agreed: "But we need to be quick. After picking up Granny Lei, I need to go to the government office."
Luo Ying frowned: "You’ve just made a hard but fast campaign during the day and fought a hard battle, sleeping just one day isn’t enough. Don’t go to the government office; rest tonight and go tomorrow."
He added: "Don’t worry about seized supplies; those aren’t needed. I have them, I’ll replenish you."
Then he shouted toward the doorway: "Serve the meal!"
"Eh." Pang Hai heard it and immediately went to fetch wine and dishes.
Inside the room, Qin San Lang shook his head: "No, when we went to fetch Granny Lei, we ran into patrolling soldiers. General Cheng and the others must know I’m awake. Since I’m awake, if I don’t go, people will say I’m arrogant after making a contribution and disregarding the Generals."
Currently, he was just a small Company Commander.
Luo Ying heard this, angry, he punched the soft couch: "In the past, you didn’t need to bother with these things. You could walk with a swagger in the army."
But now Qin Laoyao needed to dispel others’ jealousy and discontent by hurrying to the government office to meet the superiors.
Qin San Lang laughed: "Brother Luo, no need to worry about me, I’m fine."
He then reminded: "In the future, don’t say this again, whatever the situation live according to it, you can’t always think about the good old days."
He didn’t feel aggrieved, just felt sorry for Xiao Yu, thinking Xiao Yu suffered too much following him.
"Lord Ying, food and wine are here!" Pang Hai called out from the courtyard, and only after Luo Ying responded did he come inside with the food and wine.
The dishes were excellent, with lamb and fish, and the wine was even better. It was Yuqiong Wine, specifically supplied to nobles and royals, Qin San Lang’s first time getting drunk was from this wine.
Luo Ying laughed: "The Eagle Food Gang fellows confiscated it, you know I enjoy this, and even when out traveling, I must bring some, handy for you to enjoy."
After hearing Luo Ying, Qin San Lang looked at him, his eyes moist. In truth, Brother Luo didn’t like this wine, it was his second brother who loved it most. His first drunkenness was thanks to his second brother’s indulgence.
After he got drunk, his second brother laughed heartily.
The next day, with a splitting headache, his second brother came to see him and mocked: "Laoyao, you simply don’t know how to enjoy, this is my favorite wine, kept specially for you. Yet you couldn’t recognize the good stuff, got drunk, and said it’s too spicy and unpleasant. Let me tell you, spicy wine is good wine. Those not spicy ones are for women. How can a man like you drink sweet wines meant for women!"
Then, their father caught him and gave him a beating.
The reason was that at the time, Qin San Lang was only eight, and when he got drunk, his mother worried herself into tears, Father was most fond of his mother, seeing her cry, how could he spare his second brother?
After being beaten, his second brother came to his room that evening with a jar of wine: "Laoyao, drink up!"
He was helpless: "Second brother, last time you got my leg crippled from Father beating, another time would likely get you killed."
Qin Er waved his large hand, grinning: "Do you think your second brother will wait for Father to hit me? Rest assured, once you drink, I’ll leave overnight and come back in months. Can Father be angry for months on end?"
The eight-year-old Qin San Lang felt bitter and honestly asked: "Second brother, do you have a grudge against me, trying to murder me while Father and Mother sleep?"
Qin Er widened his eyes: "How could that be, we’re true siblings, I’m fond of you."
Little Qin San Lang: "Then why do you still want me to drink wine? I’m only eight, drinking more might be my end."
Uh, Qin Er thought for a bit, indeed, Laoyao was too young. Drinking too much wine might be fatal; being a good brother, Qin Er couldn’t harm his own brother.
He took the wine jar and drank half before giving it to Qin San Lang: "Drink, this time you won’t get drunk to death."
