Chapter 223: Making The Decision
The rest of the time Jacob spent with Violet was blissful enough that he hadn’t even thought about the big decision he was about to take that night. It never even crossed his mind, at least until she was gone.
The sun finally dipped below the mountain peak, and night came as quickly as it had left in the morning. Jacob and Violet were still there anyway, chatting and laughing away. It wasn’t until they noticed the twin moons peeking that they realized it was time to return to the dorms. They had been so engrossed in each other.
Jacob silently thought about whether the dorms were locked or not, but he knew they weren’t. If they were, then today would have to be the day that he showed her his teleportation skill.
They were in luck, or so Violet thought, because the doors were only locked after they had gone through.
The hallways were clear, only beaming brightly as a result of the old bulbs spread out on the roof. The white-haired young man casually walked her hand in hand to her room. He was not overprotective, but he was cautious. He knew that he had people watching him, people who, if they wanted to harm him, could easily target someone like Violet, but he’d be damned if he let anything happen to...
"I guess it’s goodbye for now." Violet turned as she reached the door, leaning on it and biting her lip. She wanted to invite him in, but a voice in her head told her that it was too early. She fought fervently in her mind, but ultimately decided to listen to her conscience.
"I like that you said ’for now.’ Because I’m definitely seeing you tomorrow." Jacob smiled at her. With that, he planted another kiss on her lips, and in less than a few minutes, they were both in their respective rooms.
Whereas Violet would naturally decide to get some rest, Jacob knew that there was no rest for him, his main body anyway. Jacob’s clones were capable of creating other clones, and as powerful as he was, as long as it was not the main body, the clones never strayed from orders. They would occasionally have their own thoughts and interests, but they ultimately always did what he commanded.
So he would leave one to attend school and protect the people that needed protecting—which unfortunately included Allicent—if need be.
Ascension was important in the sense that he would be able to gain new skills, new realms never heard of, and would ultimately be able to protect his loved ones. For the first time in a while, he did not know what to expect in the Tower of Sun, but he had a feeling that it would not be easy.
He, however, relished a challenge.
"System, what is the record time for completing the Tower of Sun?"
<Record time is approximately 21 days>
<Record is held by Link Pistonn>
’Link Pistonn? Doesn’t sound normal.’ Jacob thought to himself. Twenty-one days was the record. This meant that he only had to complete the tower and reach the requirement for ascension in 20 days. It was surely something he could manage, but he would only be sure when he actually got there.
He had to complete five levels every day to achieve this goal. The Regulator hadn’t exactly made it seem as though the opponents he would face were otherworldly strong, but he didn’t make it seem as though they were weak either.
According to what the system explained, one can only go through the Tower of Sun once, but there is not one winner, as people come from all forms of life and at different times. So one only had to reach the top and win in their own turn. It wasn’t like a video game where everyone faces the same opponents in every round. The rounds are decided based on turns and sometimes pure luck (bad or good).
Jacob had secretly wanted to find out what the Link Pistonn person did to be able to clear the tower in only 21 days, but he most likely wouldn’t get to meet him, as he had already cleared the tower and fulfilled his goal.
With all those thoughts settled in his mind, there was only one more thing to do.
"System, take me to the Tower of Sun."
His body was immediately warped in a weirdly shaped way and transported to another dimension, leaving an identical replica of him in the room. Jacob 2 immediately sat on the bed and went to sleep as though nothing had happened.
Jacob’s main body was immediately transported into a vortex of nothing but pure light. His body felt as though he were going a mile a nanosecond, almost contorting his physical body to the point where he was unrecognizable as a human anymore.
This was the transport system to go to the Tower of Sun. It wasn’t merely another world that one could just visit casually. It was a construct that existed outside of time and space, something like the Library of Life, but it was a place made solely for champions and conquest. Jacob’s sole priority was to complete the Tower to gain the necessary requirements for him to ascend to the next plane of existence. But that was not all that happened in the tower. People came for different reasons. Some were just looking for someone to beat up. Some were looking to save loved ones.
Some did not even know where they were.
But they all had one goal: reach the top and complete the challenge. Whatever one desired would be theirs in an instant.
When Jacob finally opened his eyes, he found himself in a vast space covered with nothing but bright light, one that inherently resembled sunlight.
There was an outstretched hand reaching out to him from a figure he could not completely comprehend in the moment. The figure seemed to be smiling and stretching out a hand to help lift him up...
"W-Who are you?"
That was the only thing Jacob could muster as he stretched forth his hand to grab the creature’s hand regardless of how he felt.
