Romstad’s breath was ragged, as were his hands. After having to block a barrage of attacks from Jacob, heavy beads of sweat lined his forehead.

“Let me know when you’ve had enough!” Jacob roared as he continued his assault.

Unlike Romstad, Jacob possessed infinite stamina. As far as the young man was concerned, he could keep this up for days, weeks even, without breaking a single sweat.

Romstad was a god. That much was true.

But this man, unlike other gods, wasn’t born a god. He wasn’t appointed by a Time Judge or a Scale, either.

He had earned his place as a god through brutal training that had lasted thousands of years. He had spent his entire life refining his blade skills and picking up attributes across multiple battlefields and countless worlds.

Romstad had met people who had defeated him over the years. Defeat was not something new to him.

But unlike Jacob, nobody had ever been able to overwhelm him with his own techniques in this manner.

Romstad breathed heavily.

Jacob lunged once again.

There it was.

An opening…

Romstad’s eyes flickered, his teeth showing as his mouth stretched into an almost triumphant smile. He dashed forward with every ounce of energy he had left.

Jacob had left his torso open, and Romstad thought it was the perfect opportunity to counterattack and win this battle.

His wide, curved, cutlass-like blade swung forward, propelled by his entire body weight. Time seemed to slow down. Victory was within sight.

…

Just as he inched closer to Jacob’s body with the tip of his blade, Jacob smiled.

A mischievous smile plastered itself sinisterly across his pale face.

The young man vanished from his spot, causing Romstad’s blade to slice through nothing but air.

Jacob reappeared beside him and looked at the man’s outstretched arm, a flicker passing through his eyes.

In one smooth motion, Jacob severed the man’s arm at the elbow.

The movement was so quick that Romstad did not even feel it immediately.

A second later, blood spilled violently from the severed area. The man’s forearm was completely separated from his body.

But Jacob was not done.

He grabbed the severed forearm, spun it around, and drove the arm, still wielding the Dadao sword, cleanly through the man’s chest.

Romstad had experienced enough pain in his life not to scream from something like this. However, he still grunted loudly, blood spilling directly from his mouth onto the floor beneath the red lights illuminating the arena.

Romstad fell to his knees. Defeated by another mortal just like himself. He did not particularly like it, but he had to acknowledge that Jacob had completely overwhelmed him in battle.

“It is a noble thing to accept defeat, but please, tell me… what’s so bad about being sponsored? It’s all to your own advantage. There are no disadvantages, none whatsoever for you. Why, then, do you remain so adamant?”

Romstad coughed and spat out a glob of blood onto the cracked floor.

The injury was not enough to kill him, but there was no point in continuing after this. As he had already made clear, this was not a battle to the death.

It was merely a battle to determine who had the better sword skills.

“I do not need advantages to win. This is what I’ve been trying to make you all understand. I am fine on my own. Give the advantages to those who really need them.” Jacob turned and walked away.

“Wait!” Romstad stretched forth his only good hand, beckoning Jacob to halt.

“I will let the other constellations know to leave you be. This is only a token of my appreciation for how powerful you are.”

“Thank you. I will really appreciate that.”

The battle was over. It was time for Jacob to return to his real quest in the Tower. The time for side quests was over.

Uga followed right behind him as they crossed through yet another dimensional door, leaving Romstad to his devices, alone in an arena of his own design.

“Ha, Jacob!” Romstad exclaimed, grabbing his forearm and pulling the sword out of his chest with a light groan.

He reattached his arm and spent the next two hours quietly polishing his sword.

He needed more information on Jacob—where this young man was from and how he had acquired such powers at such a young age.

…

Jacob, however, was too busy climbing the Tower again.

This young man advanced so many floors in a single day that, by the time the day was over, he had reached exactly the 98th floor.

Night had properly settled in, and he decided to retire to his room.

He carefully pulled off his clothes and then walked to the bathroom, taking a quick shower before materializing a new set of clothes.

Jacob then sat on his bed and decided that he would celebrate making it this far in the Tower.

He widened his grip, and in less than a fraction of a second, a bottle of century-old wine materialized in his hand.

He smiled, took a deep breath, then uncorked the bottle. He forged a glass in his other hand and poured the blue-colored wine into it.

He took one sip as he reminisced about his entire stay in the Tower.

He would complete the Tower in eight days and become the new record holder. He would have to tell Link once he was able to step into the Library of Life again.

He took another sip, thinking of all the things he would do with Violet once he saw her again. Visions from his clone’s point of view let him know unequivocally that she would not object to such things at all.

And yes, he was allowed to have dirty thoughts too. This was not a state of being reserved for Elyssara alone.

The only difference between them was his self-control, which stemmed from overwhelming abundance.

He finished the glass of wine, and in a second, the glass vanished from existence. The wine bottle disappeared as well.

Jacob was not a drinker, and he did not plan on becoming one. He merely wanted to celebrate and reminisce about a couple of things.

Tomorrow was the final day. For now, he would get some sleep.
