Chapter 789 - 272: Qin Mei, How Dare You

Her hesitation earlier was simply because she didn’t want to be burdened by a guilty conscience, or to have regrets later.

’There’s a big difference between drinking it myself and being forced to. The burden on my conscience is instantly lighter this way.’

"Fourth Wife of Jing, what are you doing here?" Jie Anlin asked again.

"None of your damn business." Qin Mei gave Jie Anlin a dark look and turned to leave.

"Fourth Wife of Jing." Jie Anlin called out to Qin Mei. When he saw she didn’t stop, Jie Anlin swaggered forward and blocked her path.

Qin Mei was forced to a halt. Jie Anlin deliberately took another step, trying to get closer, and her gaze turned icy. "A good dog knows not to block the way."

"Fourth Wife of Jing, I’m not feeling well. Why don’t you give me a check-up?" Jie Anlin said, his gaze turning lecherous as he looked at Qin Mei.

Who wouldn’t have improper thoughts about a pretty woman like her?

"I’m not a doctor. Get lost," Qin Mei snapped.

"Fourth Wife of Jing, where’s Jing Si?" Jie Anlin asked.

"Jie Anlin, you’d better move, or I’ll cripple you." Qin Mei’s cold voice held a hint of ruthlessness.

Relying on the fact that Granny doted on him the most, Jie Anlin was unfazed by Qin Mei’s threat. Making sure Jie Jingchen wasn’t around, his grubby hand shot straight for Qin Mei’s chest.

Qin Mei was stunned. A chill shot through her, and a bloodthirsty glint flashed in her almond eyes. With a flick of her wrist, a silver needle shot from her fingertips.

"Fourth Wife of Jing... AARGH!" Jie Anlin screamed. He stared at the silver needle embedded in the back of his hand, first in disbelief, then with overwhelming rage. "Qin Mei, how dare you?"

"I’m going to tell Jie Jingchen you tried to grope my chest," Qin Mei said, her expression as calm as still water, as cold as ice.

"Qin Mei, you’re spouting nonsense! It was obviously you throwing yourself at my husband!" an indignant voice rang out. It was none other than Jie Anlin’s wife, Zhao Hong.

’So this is what it’s like to be falsely accused,’ Qin Mei thought. She was getting a real lesson today.

"Tch!" Qin Mei snorted with disdain. "Throw myself at him? Am I blind?"

"Qin Mei, what did you do to my husband?" Zhao Hong clutched her belly and ran toward Jie Anlin.

"Honey, slow down! Be careful with the baby," Jie Anlin said, ignoring the sharp pain in his hand as he rushed to meet Zhao Hong. Any shock to the pregnancy could be serious and he couldn’t afford to be careless.

As beautiful as Qin Mei was, as much as he coveted her, the baby in Zhao Hong’s belly was more important. It had taken them long enough to conceive, and the entire family had been eagerly awaiting this child.

Zhao Hong had a fiery temper, and she yanked the silver needle from the back of Jie Anlin’s hand.

"AARGH!" Jie Anlin let out another blood-curdling scream. When the silver needle was in his hand, the pain had been like ants gnawing at his bones. Now that Zhao Hong had crudely yanked it out, the agony was even more intense.

"Qin Mei, you dare stab my husband!" Zhao Hong brandished the silver needle and lunged at Qin Mei, looking like she was ready to stab her to death.

"Honey!" Ignoring the excruciating pain, Jie Anlin grabbed Zhao Hong and held her back. "Honey, calm down! You’re pregnant, don’t stoop to her level."

"She stabbed you," Zhao Hong said viciously.

"The baby is more important." Jie Anlin didn’t care about anything else, only the child in Zhao Hong’s womb. If they got into a fight and weren’t careful, the baby could be hurt. If something happened to the child, he would regret it for the rest of his life.

Qin Mei was a rose with thorns, and he liked that. It stirred his desire for a challenge. ’One day,’ he thought, ’I’ll make her come to me willingly.’

"Qin Mei, Jing Si is infertile. Are you trying to seduce my husband so you can borrow his seed to have a baby?" Zhao Hong blurted out. Not only did Qin Mei find this unbelievable, but even Jie Anlin was taken aback.

’Borrow his seed?’ Jie Anlin’s greedy eyes locked onto Qin Mei. ’She’s so beautiful; a child with her would definitely be a looker.’

"Borrow his seed?" Qin Mei’s eyes, fixed on Jie Anlin, were filled with cold contempt and ridicule.

"Qin Mei, you’re disgusting. An Lin is Jing Si’s own cousin," Zhao Hong sneered.

Qin Mei raised a hand to scratch the corner of her eye, a cunning smile playing on her lips. "Let me be honest with you about something. I never actually cured your little problem."

Jie Anlin froze. A flicker of guilt crossed Zhao Hong’s eyes before she quickly composed herself. "Trying to drive a wedge between us won’t work."

Qin Mei mulled it over for a few seconds before speaking. "I’ve been married to Jie Jingchen for over a year and I’m still not pregnant. I spent a year trying to cure him and failed, yet I supposedly cured you in just one month. Jie Anlin, does that really sound possible to you?"

Jie Anlin sank into thought. Zhao Hong started to panic. "Jie Jingchen is different! Jie Jingchen injured his back, but he... he’s..."

Zhao Hong couldn’t finish her sentence. Her affair with that *other* man was a well-kept secret; there was no way Qin Mei could know. ’She must be bluffing,’ she thought, ’just trying to plant a seed of doubt between us.’
