Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man
Chapter 796 - 274: Meimei, Stealing is Bad (2)
"Oh," Qin Mei said. She thought for a moment before adding, "Your granny’s been hospitalized."
"Mm," Jie Jingchen hummed faintly in response.
"Your granny is in the hospital. Zhao Hong and Lin Yaru are also in the hospital after pregnancy scares. Aren’t you curious at all?" Qin Mei pushed Jie Jingchen away slightly and looked up at him.
"Curious about what? It’s all within my expectations." Jie Jingchen caressed Qin Mei’s cheek. "With Xu Chunyan and the Lin family in the same place, how could there not be a huge drama?"
Qin Mei reached up and pinched Jie Jingchen’s cheek. "You really can predict everything."
"Where’s Mom?" Jie Jingchen changed the subject.
"Lin Yaru started hemorrhaging. Mom went to go save her," Qin Mei answered nonchalantly.
"Hemorrhaging?" Jie Jingchen was stunned. ’Is that just a pregnancy scare? It sounds more like she’s having a miscarriage.’
Qin Mei hesitated for a moment, but decided to tell Jie Jingchen the truth. "Xu Chunyan used you as bait to trick Lin Yaru into getting rid of her baby."
Jie Jingchen’s brows furrowed. A layer of frost seemed to creep over his amber eyes as anger flared on his face, ready to erupt at any moment. "Using me as bait... Xu Chunyan just won’t give up her wicked ways. A menace like her is the scum of society, a disgrace to the world of education."
"Calm down, calm down. Xu Chunyan’s despicable tricks are just to deceive Lin Yaru. As long as you remain steadfast, our marriage is solid as a rock." Qin Mei gently patted Jie Jingchen’s chest, trying to soothe him.
"Disgusting." Jie Jingchen’s gaze was terrifyingly sinister. Xu Chunyan’s methods were getting cruder and cruder.
"It is pretty disgusting." Even Qin Mei, who wasn’t the target, felt furious just hearing about it, let alone Jie Jingchen. ’But on second thought,’ she reasoned, ’getting angry just drains my own energy.’
’Xu Chunyan is like a single rat dropping, ruining the whole pot of porridge. She’s still stirring up trouble with all her might even after the divorce. It’s time she was caught in her own web.’
"What did you need Mom for?" Qin Mei changed the subject.
"To give Gao Yang stitches," Jie Jingchen said.
"Are there no doctors in the hospital who can do stitches?" Qin Mei asked.
"There are." Jie Jingchen thought for a moment, then added, "But I trust Mom’s skills more."
So he didn’t trust the other doctors. Qin Mei didn’t criticize him for it. Instead, she volunteered, "I’ll go."
"No," Jie Jingchen blurted out.
"Why not?" Qin Mei was bewildered. ’Does he not trust anyone but his mother? Not even me? That’s a little hurtful.’
Jie Jingchen’s expression turned a little awkward. Gao Yang had cut his thigh, and he didn’t want Qin Mei looking at any man’s thigh but his. He took Qin Mei’s hand. "Your medical skills are superb. Why use a butcher’s knife to kill a chicken?"
"Is that really why?" Qin Mei looked at him suspiciously.
Jie Jingchen gave in, no longer hiding his possessiveness. "He injured his thigh. It wouldn’t be appropriate for you."
Qin Mei understood instantly. She balled her hand into a fist and gave his chest a light tap, asking irritably, "It’s not appropriate for me, but it’s appropriate for your mom?"
"My mom is different." Jie Jingchen took her hand, brought it to his lips for a kiss, his eyes brimming with intense possessiveness.
"How is she different? Don’t tell me your mom isn’t a woman," Qin Mei said, looking up at Jie Jingchen.
’One is his father’s wife, the other is *his* wife. That’s the difference.’ But Jie Jingchen just said with a straight face, "My mom is a doctor."
Qin Mei was speechless. ’Alright, fine. I’m not technically a doctor. My mother-in-law has a medical license, and I don’t.’
"Meimei, let’s go home." Jie Jingchen took Qin Mei’s hand and started to leave.
"Aren’t you going to worry about Gao Yang anymore?" Qin Mei let Jie Jingchen pull her along.
"I’m not a doctor. I brought him to the hospital; the rest is up to the doctors." It wasn’t that Jie Jingchen was irresponsible, but he hadn’t expected to see Qin Mei at the hospital. Between his wife and his buddy, his wife naturally came first. His buddy would have to wait.
"If you’re going to help, you should see it through to the end. You can’t just drop him off halfway," Qin Mei advised without much conviction.
"I don’t care about him," Jie Jingchen said.
"Since you’re already at the hospital, aren’t you going to visit your granny?" Qin Mei asked. ’If he ignores Gao Yang *and* his granny... he could have played ignorant if he hadn’t come, but now that he’s here, his father-in-law will probably point a finger in his face and call him unfilial again.’
"I’m not good with words. If Granny sees me and her condition gets worse, I’ll become the target of everyone’s criticism," Jie Jingchen said.
Qin Mei didn’t press the issue. At the stairwell, they ran into Jie Huating.
"Fourth Brother, Fourth Sister-in-law, you two sure get news fast." Jie Huating was quite surprised. No one had told his fourth brother and sister-in-law that Granny had been hospitalized, yet here they were.
Qin Mei just smiled without saying anything. Jie Jingchen glanced at the things Jie Huating was carrying, said nothing more, and pulled Qin Mei along as they brushed past him.
