They passionately intertwined until the early hours of the morning before Qin Mei finally fell asleep from exhaustion. Jie Jingchen wrapped his arms around her in contentment and soon drifted off as well.

When the pale light of dawn broke across the horizon, Jie Jingchen woke up. He wanted to rouse her for a morning workout, but looking at her peaceful sleeping face and remembering their wild behavior the night before, he couldn’t bear to disturb her.

"Forget it. One or two days won’t make a difference," he thought. Giving up on his morning routine, he pulled her closer and went back to sleep.

It was mid-morning when Qin Mei woke up. Opening her eyes, the first thing she saw was Jie Jingchen’s strikingly handsome sleeping face.

She was surprised to see him still in bed. While she loved sleeping in, Jie Jingchen was extremely disciplined. No matter how late he went to sleep, he always woke up at the same time the next day, looking completely refreshed.

Him staying in bed to sleep in with her felt as shocking as the sun rising from the west.

Qin Mei raised her hand, tracing the sharp, chiseled lines of his facial features with her fingertips. It was a face that could easily drive any woman crazy.

"You’re awake?" Jie Jingchen’s voice was deep. He reached up to gently press the back of her hand and opened his eyes. His deep amber pupils held a soul-stirring gaze, captivating enough to enchant countless young women.

Qin Mei pinched his nose. "It’s already mid-morning."

"So what?" Jie Jingchen grasped her hand and brought it to his lips for a kiss.

"Jie Jingsi, did you get fired?" Qin Mei asked. Jie Jingchen was always extremely busy back in Xiangjiang, often disappearing from sight, yet ever since they returned to Shijiu City, he had nothing but free time.

"Fired?" Jie Jingchen didn’t understand.

Qin Mei thought for a moment. "Forced to step down."

"Why? Are you worried I won’t be able to provide for you?" Jie Jingchen asked teasingly.

"No." Qin Mei genuinely didn’t have that worry. The wealth she had seen from Jie Jingchen was just the tip of the iceberg.

"Don’t worry, I wasn’t forced to step down. I’m just taking a couple of days off before I go back to work." He released Qin Mei and rolled over onto his back.

For Jie Jingchen, whether he went to work or not made absolutely no difference. Qin Mei even wanted to advise him to stop occupying a position without doing any actual work. Handing the job over to someone who truly needed it could be considered a good deed.

It would bring him immeasurable merit. Amitabha Buddha.

"Mom and Dad didn’t come home last night?" Qin Mei asked.

"Yeah," Jie Jingchen replied with a dismissive hum.

"Jinghun and Shen Qing didn’t come home either?" Qin Mei asked again.

Jie Jingchen glanced sideways at her. He hesitated for a few seconds before giving another simple hum of agreement.

"Why didn’t they come home?" she asked. It was understandable that her parents-in-law stayed out since Granny was in the hospital, but for Jinghun and Shen Qing to not return home either—that meant something was wrong.

"It’s not important," Jie Jingchen said absentmindedly.

"Jie Jingsi, Jinghun and Shen Qing are about to get a divorce. Is that really not important?"

Qin Mei felt like she cared more about the couple’s issues than Jie Jingchen did. She didn’t want to meddle in other people’s business, but she was deeply concerned for Xiao Duo. Moreover, she absolutely refused to be in the same family as Wen Xingnan. Her intuition told her that Wen Xingnan was exactly the same kind of person as Xu Chunyan—a complete troublemaker.

Jie Jingchen fell deep into thought. After a long while, he put on an expression of complete indifference. "If they want to get a divorce, that’s their business. Instead of worrying about them, we should do something meaningful."

"Something meaningful?" Qin Mei didn’t understand at first, assuming he meant making money. Earning money was indeed a meaningful endeavor. But she was too naive. The look in Jie Jingchen’s eyes shifted into a gaze she was entirely too familiar with. Her entire body tensed up. "Jie Jingsi, put those thoughts away. It’s daytime."

Jie Jingchen completely ignored her protests, rolling over to pin her beneath him.

He didn’t dare indulge himself too much since it was the middle of the day, but Qin Mei was still left utterly exhausted.

"Meimei, just lie there. I’ll go make some food." Fully and neatly dressed, Jie Jingchen stood by the bed, smiling down at Qin Mei, who was hiding under the blankets like a turtle in its shell.

Qin Mei didn’t want to talk to him. It wasn’t until she heard the sound of the door closing that she poked half her head out from under the covers. After confirming he had left the room, she slipped out of bed, grabbed a medicinal pill, and headed for the bathroom.

After soaking in a medicinal bath for a while, Qin Mei finally regained her energy.

When Jie Jingchen walked into the room carrying two bowls of porridge, Qin Mei just happened to be stepping out of the bathroom. She had forgotten to grab her clothes and was only wearing her underwear. Her smooth, creamy skin was covered in suggestive marks.

Seeing this, Jie Jingchen’s mind went completely blank for a moment. His hands trembled, causing some porridge to splash onto his skin. The scalding heat snapped him out of his daze.

"Jie Jingsi!" Qin Mei shouted, furious.

Jie Jingchen reacted incredibly fast. With both hands occupied by the bowls of porridge, he kicked the door shut with his heel, not forgetting to comfort her, "Don’t worry, no one is home."

"Are you not a person?" Qin Mei snapped back angrily. If she had been fully exposed to anyone else because of this, she would have bitten him to death.

"I’m different." Jie Jingchen set the bowls down on the desk and went to the wardrobe to grab Qin Mei’s clothes, wanting to help her dress. Since she had just finished her medicinal bath, she didn’t smell like pungent herbs, but rather carried a refreshing, herbal fragrance. The scent instantly made him think of those rose petals.
