Chapter 596: Want to Be Quiet for a While

When it was time to eat, Qin Wenhao didn’t see his wife.

He figured his wife might have gone to Granny Qin’s room.

So he went to look for her.

He pushed open the door and, sure enough, saw his wife.

"Wenhao!" Gao Lan called out to him.

Qin Wenhao ignored her and just walked to the bedside. "Granny, are you feeling any better?"

Granny Qin’s spirits were much better than they had been just moments before.

She looked at her grandson and shook her head. "I’m fine. Oh, are you here to get Mingxue for dinner? In that case, Mingxue, you should hurry and go eat!"

"Honey, you should go eat first. You’ve been on the train for days; you must be hungry." Qin Wenhao’s heart ached for his wife.

Granny Qin also urged her, "Mingxue, hurry and go eat!"

"Alright, Granny. We’ll go eat first, then."

Fu Mingxue stood up and walked out with Qin Wenhao.

The couple didn’t ask Gao Lan to join them.

Gao Lan stood there stiffly, unable to describe the feeling in her heart. ’What are they playing at? What do that couple, Qin Wenhao and Fu Mingxue, think they’re doing?’

’Are they just going to ignore me like that?’

’How have I offended them? Why won’t they even bother to keep up appearances?’

Just then, Granny Qin spoke up. "Gao Lan, you should go eat, too. I’ll be fine here."

’In truth, she really wanted to be alone.’

But this granddaughter-in-law of hers was impossible—she insisted she was worried and had to stay by her side.

She had a feeling it was because her granddaughter-in-law couldn’t seem to fit in with the rest of the Qin family.

That was why she had come to her room.

Gao Lan immediately replied, "Granny, I’m not hungry. I can eat later. Let me bring your food up first!"

Granny Qin truly had no appetite. She shook her head. "I don’t want to eat right now. You go on and eat. I’ll decide later—"

"That won’t do, Granny. Your health is too important. How can you not eat? I’ll bring it up for you."

Gao Lan’s insistence was giving Granny Qin a headache.

"How about this: never mind the food for now. Go get your mother-in-law. I need to talk to her about something."

The moment Gao Lan heard Granny Qin ask for her mother-in-law, her expression stiffened. "—Alright. I’ll go get Mom right now."

In reality, Granny Qin just wanted an excuse to send her away.

She needed a moment of peace.

Besides, she truly had no appetite.

After heading downstairs, Gao Lan quickly found her mother-in-law. "—Mom, Granny is looking for you."

When Mrs. Qin heard that her mother-in-law was looking for her, she nodded at once. "Alright, I understand. You go eat. You don’t need to worry about things on Granny’s end."

Gao Lan replied, "—Okay, Mom!"

Hearing the word "Mom," Mrs. Qin’s expression flickered. She said nothing more and went straight to Granny Qin’s room.

"Mom, you were looking for me?" Mrs. Qin asked the moment she entered the room.

"Yes. Tell Gao Lan she doesn’t need to stay in here with me. No one else needs to come, either. I want to be left alone in peace."

Granny Qin genuinely wanted to be alone.

She wanted to quietly remain in this room and reminisce about the life she had shared with her old man.

Mrs. Qin understood at once. Her mother-in-law was annoyed by Gao Lan’s presence.

"—Alright, I understand. What would you like to eat? I’ll bring you some congee later. You have to eat something."

Granny Qin sighed. "Then bring it later."

Mrs. Qin breathed a sigh of relief.

She had been afraid her mother-in-law would refuse to eat or drink at all.

’How could her body possibly withstand that?’

’As long as she was willing to have something, that was good enough.’

After leaving the room, she didn’t hurry to find Gao Lan.
